Mike... what an awesome job on this! Was nice to see something on this beautiful girl about her history, not just one day of it. I'm booked for my 3rd trans-Atlantic next March, and I remember my first, thinking what it must have been like back then, to see England slipping away and nothing but ocean ahead for a week. Granted, the QM2 is a totally different beast, but the feeling was there. Sailing into NY harbor at 4am, seeing the Statue of Liberty lit up... it was emotional, to think of the millions of people who did this trip, not for vacation, but for a new life... these classic ladies deserve the honor you've been giving them, not just because of tragedy, but because of the new world they helped create.

I love oceanliner history and historical ships. 1915 was when my people, the Armenians were going through a genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire (Germany's ally) and April 24 marked the first day of the organized crime. Just a month before Lusitania sinking and the killings would continue until 1918, roughly. My great-grandfather, who was a survivor, had traveled on the Oceania in 1910 to visit America for the first time, then returned back to Armenia (Aintab). He became a hero, fighting alongside the French, against the Turks. This is a very dark period for me, obviously and watching this, I can't help to think of everything our homeland was going through. We lost 75% of our population and 90% of our lands.

When I was 8 years old, one day while reading an article about the Titanic, they mentioned it and when I researched it and saw its beautiful design, I fell in love with it. For some reason I like its design, history and interiors more than those of the Titanic. I am currently 23 years old and I am still fascinated with it, with each passing year I learn something new about its magnificent history and legacy. It is a shame that it does not have the recognition it deserves, thanks to people like you with these projects that give such a magnificent ship the honor and recognition it deserves. Absolutely incredible work! The renderings of Lusitania do her beauty such perfect justice!
Here’s one of Lusitania and Mauretania’s quirkier innovations I’ve always found interesting: they were the first liners to offer Second Class passengers the same dining schedule as Saloon, meaning a casual mid-morning breakfast, a light midday meal (‘luncheon’), and a large multi-course ‘dinner’ later in the evening, as was only customary in affluent households. Up until after the war most other liners, including the other Cunarders, offered Second and Third Class a dining schedule familiar to a working class household: a small breakfast served early in the morning, a large late morning ‘dinner’, a light ‘tea’ in the early evening and a late evening ‘supper’.
This is mentioned in a number of brochures as a means to appeal to fashionable urban middle class travellers who couldn’t quite afford first class on other ships but expected a higher standard of service than second class usually afforded. You could kind of think of Second on the L and the M as being the original Business Class.

But honestly... Oceanliner Designs always are on a quality level so high, that they easily win all competitions with documentations on TV about the same topics. You want to know something about ships and oceanliners? Come here... and answers will be given. The detail of information is so high, that one clearly feels the love for what the OD team is doing here.
The CGI gets better and better, the sound and music is always on point... and the only word, that describes this clip correctly is historical docutainment.
And thank you for making 2 parts... that way I learned a lot more about Lusitania than just her final minutes. And I am even sure, that part 2 will bring up dramatic informations, that are new to me, about her sinking. Because this happens every time, when I watch something from OD.

    My favourite liner. ❤
Ever since it was love at first sight, courtesy of Dr. Ballard's exploration in 1993, when my age was still in single figures, the 'Lucy' has been the top liner for me. Graceful, elegant and fast, I always considered her the loveliest of all the early 20th century liners.
I was on the Old Head of Kinsale on May 7th, 2015, for the centenary. Even got talking to Capt. Turner's grandson, himself elderly. I laid flowers on the graves of victims in the graveyard of Kinsale church. I was in Cobh (formerly Queenstown) for the evening commemoration where dozens of boats, all covered in lights, slowly processed into the harbour, representing the returning flotilla that raced out to do what they could.😢
The flotilla was watched over by Cunard's representative, the liner Queen Victoria, the only one of the fleet still with an 'ia' ending to the name, marking the occasion by an overnight visit on her latest cruise.
In 2019 I proposed to my then-girlfriend beside the Lusitania's propeller in Liverpool, having just had a meal at the top of the former HQ of White Star Line, across the road from the Cunard Building. She was delusional or stupid enough to say "yes." 😂
And in 2022, having delayed our marriage due to Covid, we finally had our honeymoon...aboard the Cunard liner Queen Victoria, who I had seen in Cobh those years before.
To say that the Lusitania has been a rather integral part of my life in some odd ways is putting it mildly! 😂
Thank you, Mike, for a lovely look back at nearly a decade of a successful career before a tragic ending. The lovely Lucy deserves to be remembered for what she was before May 7th, 1915, as much as she is for that terrible afternoon. 😊

Michael this is an amazing video, thank you for writing and producing it.
    Animation is stunning.
Sometimes we (I) forget the amount of hard work you all put in to bringing the best videos for the liner community and I may make stupid critiques frivolously -- ignore them, but they come from a place of ❤❤❤❤❤❤
