  • This is the full version of the 16mm transfer of the original DMC Dealer Prospectus film shown to investors and dealers who were interested in the DeLorean DMC-12.
    This video is pre-pruduction and shows the original prototype 4-cylinder version of the car with brown leather interior. This car is very different from the final production version.
    Notice the single striker for the doors, the different dash cluster, rims and lack of rear louvers as well as
    many other things that differ from the later production versions.

    Let someone build just one far out sports car, and his car could well be on the cover of many enthusiasts books and soon become a subject of coffee breaks around the country.
    This was the dream of John DeLorean...... um I think you got more than that.
    This is a beautiful car which has the engineering of a car well ahead of its time.

      It looks kind of cramp. DeLorean was 6’4” which is why he designed the interior to be so spacious because otherwise he wouldn’t be able to drive his own car.

    *Shows how beautiful the Delorean is* "now you tell me, if you had this car sitting on your showroom floor, do you think you would have people coming in to look? We believe it will be a natural traffic builder, were out to sell our own cars, but in the process we may move a few for the other guys too" now thats a line to sell a car to investors

    If dealer were on board with this, it would have been a success as they were not asking them to abandon a brand they already sold. The DMC 12 would have brought in customers to the dealership just to look at it and sell the other brand as well. Very good strategy on John's part. Most of his dream did come true, just bad market timing.

    • @MDQDZINE
      @MDQDZINE Před 3 lety +2

      @Womb Raider you obviously know little of the economic issues of the time. Like was said, bad timing ..and underfunded.

      @@MDQDZINE It was defunded by Margaret Thatcher and Death Knealed by the FBI drug smuggling sting and then Colin Chapmans Death and.alegatons of fraud levelled at Lotus too. All three things killed it. There were other options open to DMC in October 1981 when the planned funding agreed to by the Labour Government suddenly frozen.

    It's a shame how the production model version had merely 130HP. To put it in perspective: a 1990 Honda Accord LX had 125HP. Hence, DeLorean's original production version turned out to be a probably to me a:
    D- 'sports car'
    B+ 'regular car'
    ...and obviously a very good, A+ 'first car' for a high schooler.

    DeLorean probably should have watched this film before building the car. "We believe sports cars buyers are individualistic" -- then proceeded to make every car visually identical with the stainless steel body. They should have never used a V6.

    • @touraneindanke
      @touraneindanke Před 2 lety +1

      The V6 was an emergency rushed in later in the design.
      There had to be built and sold cars the investors wanted to see some of their money back.
      No other car is ever developed in such a short period.

    • @aegonthedragon7303

      Hell no. John DeLorean wasn’t a great businessman but he was a damn good engineer who got dicked over by tons of factors out of his control. Elon though; richest man in the world but can’t build quality cars. DeLorean had his quality control issues mostly solved within the first 2000 units, Tesla has sold hundreds of thousands yet still suffers from baffaling issues.

  • @MrShobar

    I hastened down to see one when it first appeared at a dealership in Portland, OR (they only had one). The quality I observed was quite poor for a premium car. The glazing was defective, the positional matching of body panels was poor. I could not examine the interior.
    A piece of shit.
