After using the wood dye to colour match the neck repair, it would be best to removes the masking tape from the back of the neck before the clear coat. You can mist coat to either side of the repair to blend more seamlessly with the original lacquer and avoid the hard line that was left by the masking.
I have done this with several garage sale guitars even one I saw sticking out of a dumpster at our apartment building!
Gave all but one to kids that wanted to learn but could not afford a guitar!
This bass is absolutely beautiful! I'll never understand people putting stickers on wonderful instruments like this...
Awesome restoration as always, especially for the broken headstock, you did a great job here.
Punk Rock!!!!!
Stickers are like tattoos, they mean something to remember.
@@trolley4388 A good answer. I completely agree with you.
It’s an epiphone…trust me that’s the reason
In the 80's, our bassist found a news paper headline that said "The Government has aids research funding approval"... So she cut out "The government has aids" and clear coated it to her bass. Was it a bad idea, yea, but everyone who saw that bass remembered it. So I get it. But I also love restoring them so win win really LOL
I'm a bass player and didn't even know epiphone made a flying v bass lol. I've never been a fan of playing that shape, but they do look cool. I'm also kind of surprised they used all brass hardware on it, even including the nut. It works on it.
I love how tranquil these videos feel due to the lack of any background music of sounds.
I don't know who's trashing all these guitars, but it sure is fun watching you bring them back.
Great job especially fixing the broken neck.. Nice bass..
Quick tip, i always use parchment paper when gluing up a joint. That way your block wont become glued too in case to much glue squeezes out.
Use packing tape on the block. Does the same thing.
Dear Friend, thank you so much for this video ! I was not aware that an Epiphone Flying V has been produced. As usual, you demonstrate an incredible skill, with calm and patience : the repair and the revarnishing of the neck are daring and fabulous, also the overall restoration is outstanding ! Thanks again, see you next video...
Gorillaz bass ✌️🏴🇦🇺
Csak-ne-legyen-hamis....😅
Great job!
Beautiful guitar!
I like that you let alot of the old character remain on the instruments you repair.
Very nice neck fix! Beautiful bass
Love the cup to remove the post technique.
Beautiful repair
Beautiful job! And really cool bass!
I was so happy to see those stickers come off of there. 😄 I've never played an Epiphone but I had no idea they made a flying V bass. Beautiful instrument, amazing work.
I liked them, plus there were some good bands on the back. They tell a story of where this bass has been and what music it played.
@@diabeticmonkeyit’s cheesy.
@@GilaMonster971 To each their own
@@diabeticmonkey and neither of our opinions matter, we are not the one restoring the bass.
@@GilaMonster971 Exactly
Outstanding work. What a beautiful old V bass.
Looks beautiful !!
That's a really nice repair and the use of the dye just made perfect sense. Really nice technique on this one. Cheers!
Pretty awesome base even before restoration
Another incredible restoration.
yet another outstanding piece of work. very well done
This makes me want one of those. Nice work!
awesome restoration
that Tragedy sticker tells me all I need to know about this beauty's crust punk past haha. wonderful work!
I'm pickin up "guitar player trying to play bass" vibes at the end.
You sir are an artist!!!!!
I love that bass
You’re amazing
this is my dream guitar!
I love your videos. They are so satisfying too to watch, and educational for someone like me who likes to see “how stuff works”.
Outstanding restoration, as usual!
I gotta say though, that Tragedy sticker would have stayed if it was up to me 😎
Love the neck repair, however, it's not broken but seems to have disolved. Funny you use Tite-Bond in Japan, thougt Nippon has better stuff.
How you rescued that head was excellent work. The bass solo put that head to its test.
What a great job in this bass, congrats!!!!!
Cool V! The body wood looks like Philippine Mahogany I made a coffee table out of once?
Love it... Great job Man...
Beautiful Job. The neck dive on that has to be legendary.
Interestingly, I thought that about the neck dive until I actually bought a Flying V, built by Burny in Japan. The secret is to move the strap button into the crook of the "V" just behind the bidge. Worked particulaly well with my bass.
Thats one clean scarf joint break.😮
That trick with the tele cup socket and control plate is genius!
Awesome work! I love these restorations 💯
Awesome video.
You should have at least left that Tragedy sticker on there.
great job. don't know where you find these guitars but i like how you bring them back to life. keep it up.
How could someone trash such a beautiful bass?😭
Thankfully you restored it
The repair costs more than the bass is worth.
Epiphones always have issues with necks 😪
Nice work for what you did. Kind of wish you'd have gone all the way and refinished the body, and maybe even touched up the headstock.
Nice work but didn’t see the ground replaced?
A Flying V bass? That looks so cool.
Don’t forget to ground the bridge
A lovely job of restoration...I was wondering if you had planned the body repair later i.e. surface chips
Naked Eggs is a fantastic band name. How did this have such a clean scarf joint break? It's almost like they just forgot to glue the head on.
Do you keep every guitar you restore? How many do you have now? Love your work and your channel!
Brilliant restoration, but you missed a few bits on the end of the bass, I'd of had to sort that bit of scruffed wood out
DUDE!!! the ground wire wasnt in place when you hammered in the bridge pin!!!
Nice work but why do a perfect refinish on the neck and not at least put some clearcoat on the big gouges outta the body?
Awesome work but, I noticed you didn't replace the missing truss rod. Hopefully the neck won't twist too bad over time.
The truss rod is there, you can see it at 5:25.
Best renaissance of a guitar so far! Are the metal parts brass or gold-plated?
Nice work! That neck was not broken. That is what’s known as a scarf joint and it looks to me like it just came unglued.
Yes, its the Epiphone neck design, better than The one piece Gibson one, look at the Les paul defects.
@@danieldupuys2002 I know! Gibson used to build guitars with a scarf joint neck, a much better and stronger design in my opinion. Why they quit doing that is a mystery other than maybe a cost cutting measure. I love Gibson guitars but in the last 25 or so years they’ve done some silly shit and yes, they haven’t quite got their defects under control as they are still cranking out guitars with finish problems.
GORILAZ Bass. A beautiful restoration 🙏 Be a great bass to play. Sugoi Arigato ✌️🇦🇺
magnifico hermano estaba todo pegao viendolo
When I saw how badly off that poor thing's neck was, I was horrified! But I had faith in your skills and as always you came through and brought this thing back from the dead. Excellent work, and I liked the more jazz and funk oriented lines you were playing as well.
The brass scratchplate screws are very pretty, but look just a tiny bit oversized to me. I guess its very hard to get the exact right ones. Maybe a little more countersinking on the 'plate could sit them more flush? Anyway looks nice. Was longing to hear it played solidly with a pick at the end!
Not a broken neck, it was just an unglued neck, there is a big difference.
Yep, typical chinese QC
Nice video
Bennie and the Jets! Nice... How do you find so many screwed up guitars??
Welp it had a Van Halen sticker on it, now you gotta put a kahler whammy bar on it, and play eruption.
olfa exacto knife, Ive been using mine 12 years
You're never gonna have that problem with a Fender.
The curse of the broken Gibson neck or headstock. You'd think after all the decades of breakage Gibson would try and correct the problem.
I guess it's Gibson's tradition in guitar design.
Nice repair job!
Unfortunately no matter how well the repair job is, they're never quite the same after.
That didn't look like a real Gibson break, that was a typical Asian made scarf joint break.
neck break a bit too clean??
*Great ! Fantastic !!! 🙋🏻♂️🎸🔥🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷*
Given the tools you have, or in this case don't have, you do spectacular work. I personally would have refinished the entire neck, but I suspect you did it that way to show its battle scars. I also appreciate that you left all of its wear and tear intact, choosing to clean, instead of completely refinishing. With regard to the pick guard, may I suggest dipping it in a bath of hydrogen peroxide and exposing it to UV light; it will completely remove all of the yellowing and make it white again. Well done, it plays beautifully.
Such a big body of that bass.

WOWWW HOW DID YOU FIND A FLYING V BASS?? IN BRAZIL ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ONE, I NEED. good vídeo man, i love it
*Wow, great Job, You are genius !*
Question: where do you find these guitars and basses in such need of a clean-up and repair?
magnifique travail de restauration !
Where are you found this guitars???
Gauze, Tomorrow and Exclaim? Someone has great taste in Japanese HC! ✌️
The main value in the guitar is wood, everything else can be replaced. But the metal will gradually rise in price, there is less and less metal left in the world. I think in 100 years the guitar will be a very expensive commodity
why do people put stickers on their guitars? they always look worse than before. thank you for throwing them into the bin, it looks beautiful now
Pode crer ,.Baixão.!
where do you find these bass/guitars?
De que año es ese bajo?
So, it's failed scarf joint.
