Congrats on you 1000 .. great job, thanks for the videos
Thanks Tony
The voltage on the probe tip when switched to noise is concerning (especially if you were to inadvertently inject that into a sensitive amplifier etc). Although the probe is capacitively coupled I believe you can override that capacitor with the switch on the probe, though I may be wrong.
Yep! Personally I would not put this Signal Tracer anywhere near the inside of ANY transistor equipment.
@6:17 50 milli-farad reservoir or smoothing capacitors in tube/valve equipment? As Dave Jones would say: "that's a trap for young players"... mfd written on capacitors is ancient US electronic-speak for MICRO-farad. 50 milli-farad is 5000uF!
Nice old bit of kit...
Good vid
I bought a Precision Grommes signal tracer recently. The only thing I wish it had was a "noise" mode. It has a 6AT6 tube in the probe, which I might change out for a 6AV6 later.
Fixed for the next 10 years of stasis. Good job Scott.
Nice, I've always liked these little guys. For a modern and low cost alternative try the probe of a generator/tracer like the Fluke Networks Pro3000. It works great for tracing audio or noise through a circuit. You can also find generic versions for cheap. Of course it won't have the character of these Heathkit beauties!
my IT-12 does not deflect the eye tube when I touch the probe tip. Any suggestions? But I can hear it on the speaker.
Nothing specific, probably just needs a full refurbishment if it hasn’t already had one.
Nice piece of gear, lovely tube stuff. I wouldn't trust that old electrolytic - they might short on you at the worst possible moment without warning.
Yeah I am not comfortable with that either, I might have to revisit the capacitors and do it properly.
The tolerance band on those resistors look silver which is 10% so they are fine: Gold, Silver, None = 5%, 10%, 20%
OK, never mind you got that a few minutes after my comment...
