- In this episode you're gonna see 3 OFF ROAD SUBARU FORESTER and 2 Land Rover Defender evolved in a TECHNICAL OFF ROAD TRAIL.
That was some pretty hardcore Subaru Forester Off road action !
Note that they are all lifted forester !
It was only my second time (real) offroading (it's not softroading anymore !) and I'm pretty happy with how the Foz and I handled this !

So what do you think ... SUBARU BEATS LAND ROVERS ?!
Sure they do and you know it ! For example, it took at least 6 attempts for the green Land Rover to pass the ravine at 11:15 but only 2 attempts for the grey Forester....
If you have more footage of that day, I'm keen to see it !
@@vincentwindels3752 Heheh for sure! 😁😁😁
I probably put the most interesting clips in this video but I probably have some leftover too 😉
2.0 or 2.5 engine ?
@@adrianalvarado1206 2.0L NA 😉
I would say the Foresters really gave a good match to the Defenders. One striking difference is the tyres, the Defenders both had 100% offroad tyres, just helps out a lot. You could also see they had diff locks, which gives you such an advantage offroad. Lower gear ratios gives more control and lower speeds. But hey the Defenders are built for offroading, but oh my, try driving them on the road 😅
Subaru sg 2005, 2.0 n/a with dual range gearbox, 2" lift front, 2,5" lift back, 225/70r15 Yokohama Geolandar is what I drive, fantastic car onroad and offroad 🤙
I currently own a 2014 forester. I've driven 4wheel drives since 1976. I subscribe an watch a lot of off road videos, but I must say , this is the most enjoyable video I have ever watched in my 64 year old life.
Thank you sooooo much for your kind comment ! 🙏
The fact those Subaru's went for a ride along with 2 defenders in their own elements was impressive 👍 great content 😉
Thanks mate!
Simply Subaru are the best today.
The motor is amazing
The 4wd is from another planet.
Absolutely, they are performing so well!
That is really impressive off-roading, never knew a Subaru could go thru that.
They have to be pushed a bit but they are very capable vehicles 💪
I have a new respect for Subaru
Nice! 🙏 They are very capable cars and most of the time way underestimated
Wow...those subarus are awesome!
Sure they are !!! Thanks for the love !
I've owned 4X4's most of my life, K5 Blazer, '72 Chevy Cheyenne pickup, '85 Suburban, '95 Toyota Tacoma and a 2003 Toyota Tundra. But, it wasn't until I got my '99 Outback that I actually enjoyed going off road and I did it in comfort!
IN COMFORT! Absolutely! I never realized that until I drove the same track in land rovers 😂
And the “crickets” award goes to Scotty Kilmer and TFL CZcams vehicle testers lol. They both lovvveeeeee subaru brands (sarcasm) Subarus were pretty impressive. Great video. Hope you can do more recent models
Forester is a great car and will get you other trouble most of the time, but a true off road vehicle like Defender, strands out. Great video! Thank you.
Awesome channel mate! I currently have a lowered turbo Forester as a project car and am looking at getting a Non turbo forester to build up for offroad use but wasn't sure how capable they were but this video has shown me the light! Subscribed!

Oh my... That was awesome!!! I will like to have such incredible adventure like this... Thanks for showing no limited drive
My pleasure 😁
Hey Jordan ! That video is absolutely stunning ! Thanks for sharing and happy to see you again on the tracks !
Vincent Windels Thanks a lot ! It was awesome to finally meet you and see your "stock" foz in action 😁 Thanks again for all the advice !
Epic adventure! You guys crushed it. Thanks for the footage.
Thanks for your kind comment !
First video - immediate subscription - thank you for showing us Subaru and where it really belongs :)
Thanks a lot mate !
Great music (soundtrack) for the timelapse thru the forest trails!! Also, very impressive what those Foresters were able to accomplish!!
Thanks a lot ! I love this kind of music and try to use the same kind of music in all my videos. Forester are very capable little SUV 🙂
Great adventure! Amazing how the Foresters can do in the muddy narrow trails.
Thanks ! They surprise everyone, everytime !
SO FIRE!!! You guys are crazy! That’s was a lot more than I thought they could handle! Well done!
I have a TJ and a Legacy, might sell em both and get a Forester!
Big ups from Sweden!!
They are pretty capable 😁
I had a Forrester for 15 years and loved it. They are beasts! I now have a Crosstrek and love it too!
You stayed in the Subaru family! 😁 Awesome!
That was awesome to watch!
Glad to hear that !
Thanks mate
Hey there!
It is so nice to see more forester groups from all kind of places.
In Israel the forester is a big thing and many clubs are active on weekly basis.
Nim B Yeah that's so awesome ! Please make videos too !
This was very good. I’m pretty amazed at what the Subarus were able to do. Nice work friend👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you! The little subies always surprised 🔥
Great vid!!! Subaru lives up to its name.
Yeeeeah
Nakajima aircraft-just amazing. Happy birthday-FHI!!!
Yeeeah
This is so cool I never believed that Subaru could do this ,love this just keep it up bro
Thanks mate! Subies are awesome and very capable 🔥👊
That was exciting to watch! I don;t generally like watching sports, especially motor sports.. but this was very engaging. I half want to try this.. the other half is already crying at the damage to my beautiful black 2003 SG. Thank you for your wonderful channel!
Glad you enjoyed the video ! You can have fun on trails without damaging your car too ahaha
Really cool video. I cant wait to get my forester
Good choice 😁
Enjoyed watching this
Good 🙏
Very cool video. I get my new Forester XT 2018 in 3 weeks. Thanks for this great video.
Have fun with your fooooz 🙌
Un des meilleurs vidéos! Rien à ajouter!
Merci ! 🙏🙏 À partager sans modération 😁
Love the wild organ music at the end !
Nice vid, looked quite brutal sometimes. You guys got skills!
Ahaha yes, sometimes es you have to send it a bit 😁
Great videos man! Can’t wait to see what’s coming next. I’ve always loved foresters and overlanding/off-roading but never thought the two could go together lol definitely inspired me to finally buy a forester of my own. They’re way more capable than I ever imagined.
If you buy a Forester, get the 1st gen 122hp dual range (EUDM, AUDM), they are the most reliable and cheap to modify.
Go for it ! As Vincent said, 1st gen (SF) 122hp with low range (like mine) are the best ! It happen to be way more capable than I imagine too ahaha
ALNSM OVERLAND thanks for the recommendation. How would I know if it has low range? Would I need to find a stick shift one? The only ones around me are automatic sadly.
Yeah, Only stick shift have low range. You can tell by the magic lever beside tge handbrake lever !
ALNSM OVERLAND looked into it. Sadly the US models didn’t come with low range 😭 however people are saying to use an automatic in the US because apparently they are geared lower than the manual variants.
Extra bonus points for doing this in a manual.
Even more technical 🔥
Awesome video for awesome cars ! Great forest for Foresters !! Yeah
And a big thank you for an awesome comment ! 👊🙏
I have a subby, great little car and surprisingly capable considering they really a soft roader. They almost wreck themselves trying that hard core stuff.
Pushing them to the limit
LOVE the stats ....!!!!
I'm glad the French drive on the left side like Americans.
I like your car. Simple. Practical.
Your videos are inspiring.
I have a 2018 Outback.
Might switch to an Accent and consider if I can take out the 3rd row of seats to make more storage.
The Subaru Ascent is a larger Outback in my thinking.
Thank you for your sweet comment !
The Accent is another one nice subbie !
+TheChadWork2001 - Great buy. Enjoy it. By the way, have you noticed that the CVT transmission is so bad as many say?
@@dylandog5063 I have the legacy 2015 and yes I have a rebuilt trans at 90k. From what I hear if you do transmission oil change every 50k miles or so you shouldn't have the issue.
Really nice video. I especially liked the fact that the guys went "all in" at some places 😁
Really nice trails you got there.
Thank you Daniel !
Sometimes you just have to SEND IT ! ahaha
Yeh they went for, do or die trying lol .
Jordan your videos are inspiring. I never knew you could bush bash a Foz so hard.
Very capable overlanders with the mods you have carried out.
Now I know what to do to my SG, then go and have some fun in Morton National Park in southcoast New South Wales...maybe tackle the 12 mile road/track to Tiangara Falls.
In the Land of Foz!
Thank you for you kind words! I'm happy you like the videos.
You can definitely do great things with a foz and especially have fun 😁
Awesome vid mate,
I have a 98 SF with the low range manual box and absolutely love it, especially after the lift kit.
most people would be surprised as to how far a forester can go off-road.
Oh yeah ! The foz surprise everyone every time !
But I'm not gonna lie, I'm always the first surprised ahahah
Thanks for the love mate !
I have an SF too. But also a 1 inch lift and Torsen LSDs front and rear with a 12kg centre. I do river crossings plus mud and snow about 6 months a year just going to get the groceries. The only thing my Landcruiser can do better is extremely deep crossings and hitting kangaroos.
EDIT: Came standard with 1.447:1 low range.
Just got a 2.0 XS 2010 here in Brazil and yout video really impressed me ! Already had so much fun on a Leggy 93 TW and now with the Fozzy, this video challenges my mind haha lets see the next rounds, sure they will be harder after this ... Cool stuff bro ...Yeewwww
Glad you liked it! 🙏🙏👊
Have a look at my channel and you will see some footage of the grey Forester on tough off road trails.
That’ll buff right out!
Some decent offroad tires, lift and a good driver ha ha nice job!
Thanks again ! You don't need more to have some fun !
I love your enthusiasm buddy 😉
I must get a snorkel for mt forester. It looks awesome. Great channel.
Thanks mate! 🙏 Check out my other videos, I have one about snorkel! It could help 😉
Really cool seeing the Foresters along with the Landys. The white dccd quaife low range model seems to struggle more than I expected. A trick I learned with the torque biasing diffs (quaife, torsen etc) is all wheels need resistance to bias the torque. Rav4 boys tug the handbrake on a little to resist the spinning wheel so if you drag the brake it'll keep drive to all wheels. Tricky with a clutch also I know but something to consider.
Super cool trip and beautiful countryside 😊
Yes ! Good technique indeed but I'm not sure he was using it
A great trip. I like these movies the most. 7:00 minutes I was sure you could not make it. Thank you and we wait for more.
Szuwaru Tv Thanks ! Sure it was a good trip ! I didn't want to take any risk so i didn't do it ...
Epic video Jordan!
Rather like that orange Land Rover too.
Keep Calm and Throttle On Thanks mate ! The orange def was pretty impressive yes ! You don't really hear it but he got the V8 engine ! Oh, and I just subbed to your channel 😉
Thanks for the sub! Wow cool. Still wouldn't trade me Forester for the Defender, but if I had $1million...
AWESOME!
Yeaaah! 🔥
Many thanks for this amazing video. I subscribe in your channel directly, because I wanna make a trip through Norway (to Hammerfest) in a Subaru Forester S-Turbo 1999 (Green of course) with some of my children and you encouraged us to do so. Now I saw what a Forester is capable of. Not that I shall do it that way. Don't worry. Good luck and have fun.
Awesome plan ! You will have no problem going to Norway with your foz ;) trust me
@@ALNSMOVERLAND Late response? I was busy extracting as many tips as possible from the videos and writing them down. Thanks man.
I have taken my 07 forester on roads with similar sections to the ones in this video. Foresters rock!
Yeeeeah ! You know it ! 🙌
Cool ! Any pics or vids to share ?
Nice video. Landrovers are obviously in their element but Foresters were amazing all things considered. Auto with low range and diff locks and the Foresters would be nearly a match.
Rhett Dopwell You got it right ! 🚙🙌
Thanks for the love 😉
It really does highlight the fact they're just toys when it comes to off-road. I say this as a 2017 XT owner, they're great cars but they don't belong in the bush.
You are right, the SJ 2017 XT doesn't belong to the bush. But the older SF and SG do pretty well !
Awesome video!!! :D
Thaaanks !
Super video ;)
sotrendy06 Merci !
There reason why I am still young but i am on my 3rd Subaru now!
You know it mate ! 👊 #subarulove
INCREDIBLE
Thanks ! 🔥
Those damn foresters are inpossible , I just can't wait till mine is back from workshop and I will be able to start working on it. I hope until july I will be pushing some offroad stuff too! I think forester beats landrover coz you just can't drive landi on normal road like a normal car going up to 160 km/h on tarmac plus fuel consumption is much lover and parts cheaper. Love your vids mate. Keep up the good work!
lexxuzz Thanks a lot ! I really appreciate 🙌 You are right, you can't beat the versatility of the foz ! It's so comfortable for long roadtrips.
I hope yours gonna be back on the road soon !
Форестер красавец! Владелец тоже Молоток!
Belles trails, beaux véhicules et très bons vidéos! Continue le bon travail et comme Olivier dit, si jamais tu visites le Québec fais nous signe.
Charles Roy Merci beaucoup ! Continuez vous aussi à partager des vidéo du Québec ! J'adore 🙌
Nice video. Subscribed.
Thanks ! Glad to see you here !
Very nice great driving
Thanks !
Awesome video !!!!! Make me want to tear some trails up n my outback
Thaaaanks ! Go for it 👊👊
lmao
liked video at no#555 ,also subscribed ,pretty awesome driving.
Thank you !
Very capable daily drivers
Have a great day
Ahaha "daily driver" ! That's why they are impressive !
I'm proud of my SG9. That was my long time dream car.
Your subie looks baller, makes me wanna get one :D
Go for it, you won't be disappointed 😁
This makes me miss my 2000 forester. It was a great car. Sure, it's not as good off road as my TJ or even my F150, but it is better at everything else than the TJ. Lol
They're great for traction, garbage for gearing, bad for clearance, but generally long lasting.
Here in the states it is all about Jeeps. They all tell me know your limits of you and your vehicle. Great video.
MidTnOutdoors That's a good advice ! I didn't wanted to damage the car or hurt myself so I just didn't do it. The safest way is always a good way 👍
Not really 4runners Tacoma’s trucks you see them all the time also
Great Video, I bush bashed a 2000 forester round Australia for years. I just had all terrain tyres and lifted springs. I am not sure if the Aussie models are different spec, but in the non-turbo we had low range and I am not sure if the diff's are different but I never had it spinning a single wheel like that, even with only two wheels on the ground, it was always like it had lsd's in all 3 diffs.
One of my greatest pleasures was always showing up the "proper" 4wd's in the tough stuff, the short and narrow wheel base lets you stay out of the deep tyre ruts and choose any line you like.
Keep up the good work and enjoy that Subi.
P.s. start saving now for driveshafts as you're going to kill cv's fairly quickly, especially with a lift.
Hmmmm.....you should give us the recipe of how your Forester didn't spin a single wheel...
Vincent Windels
Sorry, I didn't mean it never spun the wheels at all, I spun them plenty, but those are spinning one wheel and losing drive, maybe just too hard on the throttle.
I never spun a single wheel that hard and lost drive, but I did kill the viscous centre diff after a while.
I had the 1981 leone 1.8 wagon, with big wheels and a lift and that was a locked driveline in low 4, I had two of the 1990 L-series wagons and they were good, but nothing like the Leone, and the forrester was kinda in between.
( A Leone is a station wagon of the Brumby or Brat ute.)
Anyway keep on having fun.
Thanks mate ! I also really love the size of the foz that let you take lines that real 4wd don't even consider !
For that wheel spinning story I don't really know what to say ahaha but yeah to much throttle won't help I guess...
And I'm a big fan of the Leone ! they are beasts with tires and lift !
I have an outback and that has open diffs. Because of the viscous hub you can still power out with one wheel in the air because it will transfer drive to the back or front.
If you have two wheels in the air then your in trouble. In most cases you can roll back and get three back on the ground and still push through.
A locking rear diff would be good if you can get one.
Good you bro I'm from all the way in New Zealand , keep up the suby life - own a twin turbo legacy that I'm thinking about lifting 🤔
Twin turbo legacy ? Sounds like a fun machine 😍 Go for the lift, it's the way to go !
Bloody awesome Subarus
Oh yeah! 👊
Following Defenders, brilliant.
Hehehe 😁
OMG! I just could not believe what I was watching, I am totally amazed, this is totally mad, but ?????
Thanks for watching ! Those little Subarus are pretty capable indeed
Excellent 👌
Thanks! And welcome 😁
I am in Africa, this is the first REAL off-road test I have ever seen. This is really a safari terrain. All those other off-road reviews marketing SUVs, should do similar; otherwise, it's a raw deal of testing or demonstrating capabilities to potential clients/ customers.
Yeah, cool to see what Foresters are capable off road !
Hesbonful Thanks a lot ! It would be awesome to visit Africa with the Foz 🚙🙌
I'm amazed the foresters got over that stream! Well impressed! I'm buying a 2012 this weekend , are they of a similar stock to the ones you are driving here? Pretty sure I'll end up putting a lift kit on it fairly quickly!
Wow Foresters are bad ass!
Oh yeah they are !
I’m really impressed. These cars are what 15-16 years old? Simply amazing!
Mine is 21 years old ! Thank you !
@@ALNSMOVERLAND Good old geared 4wd without all the electronic crap to play or burn out. Subs had so many different awd systems going at one point depending if your car was manual or auto or sporty. You need to say what system you have.
Nice! It would really be nice for us Subaruers to have better gear reduction for the manual gearbox.
Eldo Rado Sure ! It would be a game changer !
Cool video man! I was surprised by how good the foresters did, you definitely need a proper LSD and skid plates to make it through more difficult trails.
All three Foresters have skid plates, the beige and the green have oem rear vLSD's and the grey has helical front and rear LSD's
My friend Vincent gave you the right answer ! But yeah a limited slip diff would be a nice upgrade ...
Awesome vid! It seems the owner of the green Forester in particular is out to prove Subaru durability lol!
Ahahaha and even after that, no problems 😁👊
ALNSM OVERLAND Very impressive stuff!
Bon vidéo ! Lâche pas.
Merci ! 👊
LOVE IS A SUBARU!!!! 2010 Forester.
They are awesome cars! 🔥🔥👍
@@ALNSMOVERLAND I just dropped mine off to get tinted. Maybe I’ll post a walk around vid.
the off-roading community is so supportive
Nothing's better than the Subaru offroad community !
I love my Subaru
I love mine too !
I have a Subaru 2016, but never thought they can do things like this. Great video!
Thanks! Have fun with your subie!
these subarus can, yours can't
@@neomorina9506 It really seems like any newer subaru with the CVT trans is not nearly up to what the older ones can do. I don't think there is anything you can do to the newer ones to make them better off road besides a lift and tires.
@@LarryRichelli my point, CVT is murdering the reputation of subies
@@neomorina9506 How about the new crosstrek with the manual. Is there a center diff on that that you can wire to be manual?
sacrés chemins ! bravo
Merci !🙏
Man I do not miss abusing the clutch to get over obstacles. Most of us in the US use Automatic gearboxes because of the lower gearing and being able to load up the torque converter to get over obstacles. Dual range gearboxes from Subaru are rare here in the US.
Auto is way easier to use offroad that's for sure! I actually slipped my clutch a bit in this video 😔 But my dual range really help!
you need more lift on green subby outback, her belly is draggin through mud lifting tires off road. Thats why she had hard time on mud bog. thanks for video.
Their is never enough lift ahahah ! Thanks for your comment
Jordan, great vlog as usual. Dont think I'd want to take my forester on those rough trails as I prefer my car shiny with no scratches but with that said I'd like to go on a more subdued trail with hills and river crossings rather than deep ruts and rocks. Also would like to know where in France the softer/user friendly tracks are, any info would be appreciated. Keep doing what you're doing brother because its excellent viewing. Take care and stay safe.
Thanks mate! This is in burgundy and it's full of nice tracks! Difficult or way easier. I would say every region have good tracks, especially in the south 😉 have a look on wikiloc '
I literally had to use my 01 outback to pull an F-350 with a 5th wheel trailer hooked to the back up a hill. Our driveway is a long uphill and it was covered in snow. There was no way that truck could have made it. My Subaru pulled it up from a dead stop just fine. They're badass cars.
Absolutely badass! Thanks for sharing your story 🙏
Love watching you guys and girls on the trails of Italy! Awesome!
Yes, very nice trails but they are not in Italy but France ! Sure Italians have beutiful trails too though.
Wow a Subaru with a lift super impressive
Subarus are always impressive ahaha
I own a 97 sahara and just bought my wife a new Outback. If these videos are any indications.... I believe that outback will embarrass me. I think it time to invest in lockers for my jeep..... Or a forrester.
By the way, great video.
Ahahaha, you made me laugh ! The Outback is pretty good too, except for the approach and departure angles.
But Jeep's are good too !
Thank you for your comment !
But our Suubies have a low center of gravity with the boxer engine and a longitudinal transmission, My wifes 10 Impreza I believe could go most places with a good eye on your lines of approach and a heavy foot!
Great video, great Subaru, if Subaru have a real SUV maybe it can compete with Land rover Defender
Thanks mate !
What would be the best lift and set up for my 2003 forester 2.5 xs would like some articulation......do I need to chip it or can I go stock lift
Rock sliders guys.
Could be useful sometimes yeah ! Plus, they aren't hard to make for our foz
Awesome little Subaru's. How much lift has the one with roof top tent had put under it? I have a little Subaru like it and was thinking of putting lift under it.
Thanks mate ! The one with the RTT is mine 😉 It's lifted with a 2" kit from ADF
We’ll done ✅ all from a estate car love it
Ahaha right !
Awesome channel, don't think my little Subaru xv could handle that sort of punishment though.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video 👊 is your XV lifted?
