- In this video, we’ll explore KLM Business Class service deep into Africa. This video highlights KLM Business Class from Amsterdam to Cape Town. We’ll take a thorough tour of the KLM Business Class lounge, known as the KLM Crown Lounge in Amsterdam. The eleven hour flight also gave me plenty of time to experience KLM Business Class service, food, and the seat. I also share the inflight entertainment.
KLM Business Class in the 777 is not quite as amazing as it is on their 787, but these planes are still heavily used by the airline and this video gives you a good idea of what it’s like if you were to fly with KLM Business Class.
Also, this was an unbelievable flight because it was Captain Ruud van Mil’s retirement trip. This flight to Cape Town was his penultimate flight and there was plenty of celebration! Be sure to watch the video to see the special things the crew - including his son - did to celebrate his final trip.

My father flew for NWA for 26 years. I regret I never got to fly with him, or take his final flight with him as a captain. Pilots are intelligent, steady, and caring people. My dad took such pride as a captain in making sure his “ship” and ALL who flew where safe. He died a six years later after he retired. I’m so happy he spent so much of his life pursuing his passion, as so may pilots do. It’s more than a job to most, it a love and responsibility
there was nothing like NWA and I still miss them today! For 5.5 years I crossed the Atlantic every 4 weeks with NWA, not one single flight was bad... and I remember on the flights to Honolulu, they'd serve Mai Tai's in First Class. Airlines like this, where every crew memeber takes so much pride in their work do not exist anymore, not even in the Middle East, where the products are on a different level...
Captain Ruud sounds like he would’ve been a great fit at Southwest 😂. That was cool that you got to partake in this special moment for him.

The thing I love about klm is the seats are huge and there is always a lot of legroom even in economy because Dutch people are sooooo tall

As an aside comment, as a kid I used to bicycle through the KLM company staff club in Wassenaar to my favourite fishing spot. Now in Australia @ September 2021, having travelled extensively throughout the world and all continents, I still continue to enjoy your presentations enormously and will continue to until Australia can rejoin the travelling fraternity, until then I will enjoy your videos as you appear to be able to roam the world......lucky You!

Thank you for making this video. KLM holds a special place in my heart. My first trip to Europe was back in 1986 on a KLM 747, LAX-AMS. The flight attendants advertised that they had just been named "Airline of the Year" in 1985. What an amazing trip that kick-started my love of travel and aviation.

Regarding your question at 8:06 I think the news has already reached you but KLM is finally upgrading their business class on the 777’s to one comparable with the 787’s business class in a 1-2-1 configuration and reportedly even with closing doors.

OMG! I was in AMS in February of 2020. Also on KLM business class flying home (but) to Houston. We also found the lounge seating uncomfortable but the upstairs bar and terrace was super. It didn't matter how cold it was. They use the 787 Dreamliner on the IAH route and we loved it! The business class is 1-2-1, so if you are flying with someone else and want a window, you find yourselves on different rows. Keep up the great vids.

I flew KLM round trip from JFK to Amsterdam in October 2019. Had a 787 for the trip to Amsterdam and a 777 for the return flight. For the flight over, it was the purser’s final flight before retiring and he got an ovation before we deplaned. The 777 had no wifi, but we were flying back on Halloween and most of the Dutch on board were coming over for the NYC Marathon, so we all got a KLM sweat band(I managed to get a second one from one of the crew). I was in economy comfort right behind business class both ways. The 777 was shopworn compared to the 787, but the vibe was nice with all the marathoners on board. 2019 was KLM’s 100th anniversary, and they are the world’s oldest continuously operating airline. The entire crew wore matching blue sneakers to mark the occasion of the marathon.
This video is a very nicely made one. The best of all , is your speaking voice. Your eloqution is tremendous as you identify and explain your personal likes and dislikes. Again , an incredibly gifted tone of voice speach you have. Cheers

KLM is awesome! Flew the Dreamliner 878. Most quiet engine and dreamy rainbow led lighting. Food was superb and the flight attendants were first rate. They were very attentive and knew my name. Truly Wonderful!

I'm glad you liked KLM🙂, yes, their business class is somewhat outdated, but the cabin crew is always amazing in my experience. If you're ever back in Europe, maybe you can try KLM City hopper. It's one of the last regional airlines that still provide free Inflight service. Anyway, thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it😃

That chair 🪑 happens to be a Rietveld chair. That’s was a kind of famous artist from NL. Build some crazy houses and has a museum in Utrecht. And yes the chair isn’t comfortable at all i know😂 Oh and he’s grandson (my uncle) was a 747 captain for KLM for a long time.

I love the 2-2-2 seating configuration, I know it's old, but my wife hate seating next to the window and I love it, so, with this old arrangement, she get to seat next to me and I get the window and everybody is happy.

Dankie/ Merci Jeb Brooks for the video. I also flow with KLM from "Skietdiekat"-airport to Kaapstad/ Cape Town, a long time ago. (1998-2000). I recall the Dutch spoken by the ppl and staff at the airport. On the plane they had music and I request for Dutch songs...True Dutch nieuwspapers was given out. I still have mine!

Jeb, the T7 Skyteamlivery at 3:11min is'nt the KLM plane you did fly with. This one is on stand/gate G6 and the KLM Skyteamlivery with reg PH-BVD was on stand/gate G7. The other side of the G gates. I was having this mistake as well when filming at the opposite part of the airport. I find out when the airtraffic controller talked about an aircraft in behind , while I did'nt see any aircraft behind them.
You’re exactly right! The one in my video is a Garuda Indonesia 777. In fact, I nearly tried to board it! Because I was running late, I wasn’t able to get footage of the correct aircraft. Thankfully, I found your video and linked to it in my description!

Great report Jeb! Very detail about the flights and all it's products. New joiner and catching up with the vlog you posted! One question, which airline(s) FFP do you belong to?
I have flown this flight to Capetown with my home carrier KLM many times. I love it. Economychairs are good, businessclass are more comfortable then you rate them. But that is personal I think. I also have flown once out of Capetown on a KLM 787, when they just started using them (see my channel, end of the first trip) and I agree. The configuration on the 787 is sublime.

Almost always my long distance flights are during the night over Atlantic Ocean, so I really don't care if there is a window or not next to me. I like to walk a bit during the flight, so aisle seat is my choice. My next flight with this plane 4D. Great video btw. Thank You.
The KLM 787 business class is reminiscent of Delta’s on the A330’s. A very similar set up with the 1-2-1 configuration and each has direct aisle access, with the single seats having a window. The windows are darkening, with buttons to tint the windows, instead of a simple shade, which I liked. The seat is better than the one you had Jeb, but the controls are less exact. There’s no control for the lower back area, and to recline, you have to hold the lie flat button to your desired position, there is no simple recline option. Everything else is the same, and my crew was also great!
Hey Jeb! At the moment klm isn’t planning to renew the business class on their b777’s. They just finished the installing of the new business class actually. It is true though that the business class on the b787 is nicer, especially the b787-10, (sounds weird but it is different to the b787-9). You should it try out one time ( ;
As a Dutch, of course I’m biased towards KLM. I have not had the fortune of flying business, ever, but my last flight to Curaçao was together with frequent flyers and we flew the economy comfort. My travel companions used their statuses to use the lounge, even for me. (I’m a pleb, that excited me).
I’d love to be able to lay flat on a flight one day, because although the comfort class is slightly more comfortable, my butt still starts to get sore from sitting so long. And I get antsy from being so confined. I did however like the food a lot (go figure) and the crew was also nice. I had a headache and forgotten to take some painkillers with me. I asked one of the flight attendants, which of course she gave. And a few hours later in flight she asked how I was doing, if I perhaps wanted some extra water. I thought that was very thoughtful and sincere.
When I fly with my spouse I like their 777. Alone I like the 787 1-2-1. Always great service on KLM in my experience.

Yes, I've been to that airport and that lounge and I've flown to and From Africa from that airport. I'm not a KLM fan although I did get so many of those dutch houses. Did I hear you say they are filled with Rum? LOL!!

next time you go to Amsterdam Schipol in I think departures 3 there is a terrace where you can go into an old Fokker 70 and it has tons of memorabilia
