The M10 gun motor carriage is a very effective tank destroyer in War Thunder's US tech tree. My only real gripe with it is its terrible turret traverse rate.

I like how this thing is basically the complete inverse of a hellcat while both still being extremely similar vehicles.

Being speedy is better than being slow while STILL poorly armoured

This tank really carried me from 3.7 up to 6.0, having slow traverse really made me play passively.
Exactly the same man, going from the M10 -> Hellcat was a (disastrous) gameplay change for a noob like myself 😂

Passive Aggressive is one thing to do in the M10
It makes you play safer and smarter. You have to think before you round a corner or approach a cap point for example. It also forces you to play a bit closer to teammates, since if you get flanked and your gun is pointed away from the target you are fucked unless you have some backup.
german teams allow me to play it pretty aggressively
love when the enemies i play against do not have functioning eyes or ears
I feel like the M10 is the closest you can get to a horror game where you have a gun in war thunder. on one hand you feel safe cause you can easily pen them but the moment someone comes up behind you or takes out your engine you start panicking

The M10 is one of my favourtite tanks I've played so far in the game. It's a shame I can't use it to research effectively anymore as I'm at 6.7

Basically the way I figure it, the M10 has to be treated like a fixed gun tank destroyer like the Stug III and played accordingly.
So glad you mentioned the spawn camping thing. It's my experience that any time a team rushes a spawn before they have all the cap points they get hammered. Lone wolf spawn rapist are just point hogs with no interest in helping their team.
My guess is that they're often just greedy for kills and not really smart enough (or just don't care) to think about the bigger picture in the match.
The M36B2 is basically the M10 but with a 90mm, heat, and not really open top. And just like the M10, it is a tiger destroyer.
The normal m36 is much better it has a better engine for some reason with 60 extra hp at 5.3

@@thatcarguydom266 the M51 is kinda garbage, very hard to oneshot, awful platform, dogshit gun handleing, armor is very trashy, you’re huge, but on the other hand, Insane pen, and a trolly mantlet.
The reason it has no electric turret drive is pretty simple, the turret is suprisingly cramped
I still consider the M10 one of the best TDs in the game for it's BR (Even if it's not as good as the stug in some cases)
Hey Spookston, could you play the Yugoslav M36 Jackson in the US TT? Yes, you heard it right. Rather than modeling it after the US variant, Gaijin used the Yugoslav one with a modified rear and an M3A1 gun.
Hey Spook, you should play the Semovente 75/46 M43. It's a deeply overshadowed italian tank destroyer which can deliver an heavy punch but it's deeply ignored the potential it has.

I really like that TD line, actually. My highest k/d and win rate are in this thing. Only shame is the whole BR jump from it to the M36B1 (really the whole Grand Canyon size gap from rank 3 to 4 in the Italian tree).
I played Italy when they first got introduced to the game I ground out almost the entire tree the gap’s used to be even worse than now
I recently "rediscovered" it and yeah, on an up tier it does ok, everything else is a monster!

I love the M10 until I actually use it. The 76mm at that BR is a point-and-click adventure, but the survivability, mobility, and turret traverse make it infuriating sometimes.
Having that open top turret while having the same height as the M4 is just asking for trouble. And due to the speed it can't pull back into cover quick enough. I'd rather play the SU76M and try not to get shot in the first place.
Ah the M10. One of the handful of machines that kept me playing WT for as long as I did. Really wish it was in more games than this, WoT and COH2
Yeah that's true. Although it actually is in Wot. You see it was a event/collectors premium vehicle. The french (Do not ask my why) M10 GMC or something along those lines. It has good damage and an ABSOLUTELY overpowered reload: like 2 seconds... Yeah. It had good speed but I don't think the armour and turret traverse was that good but idk. At tier 5 It seemed more than balanced. I mean 2 second reload and a hundred damage per shot was pretty scary to come across.
@@panzerschiffe5835 I know about it in wot. I played a lot of the Xbox 360 version and loved it. But I grew to dislike a lot of aspects of wot and when I got a PC that could actually play wt, m10 was one of my first goal tanks back when they added the US Tanks

Thank you for making a video on the M10 GMC I’ve been waiting for this for a while. My Great Grandfather served in the US 776th tank destroyer battalion as a driver. His main vehicle was the M10 TD but late war his unit received M36 TDs. His unit was the first to score a confirmed kill on a Jagdtiger though that was A company (he was on B). Great stuff Spookston I enjoy your work and am always looking forward to the next video.
I remember when the French tech tree was lacking variety at this BR level (I mean, it still is, but it was worse). The M10 was useful when being uptiered because, if need be, you could reasonably hunt tigers with it.
I also it funny how many times you can get the same maps back-to-back, when there are maps in the game I haven't seen in years. And I know they exist, because I see the highlights from other people playing them.
You should play the Comet, it’s one of my favorite tanks. You used to be able to kill panthers with sabot. I am also currently building a Tamiya model of it too.

Spookston holding off an enemy advance with his nonchalant live commentary with engaged building up and playing in the background goes a bit harder than it needed too.
Because you played the 20mm puma it would be interesting to see you play the 40mm Crusader AA. That thing could be taken to 8.0 with few problems.
My favourite part of the M10 is that the turret can get non-penned by APHE but the explosive filler still hurting crew with overpressure.
whenever I see this think I think back to the training video they made showcasing the M10 where they claim the traverse is so smooth "even your sister could do it" while they cut to a shot of a guy nearly throwing out his shoulder cranking the wheel
The M10 has a special place in my heart because of using it to kill tigers in my very first sim battle many moons ago.

This tank wasn't actually that bad in the war. Did you know that during sometime between December of 1944-april 1945 or whatever, that some German panthers were actually dressed up to look like M10 Wolverines. Search it up, its actually quite interesting. Also Spookston, could you make a video about the Cromwell? Like how good it was?

Not really i shot a 75mm he round at one with the cromwell and it omly killed the driver and the dude next to him, granted i shot the spot where the transmission was

I highly suggest playing the KV-85. It may seem like an ordinary heavy tank, but it is incredible at 4.7. The D5-T can go through anything, the reverse gear is fast, and at some ranges the armor seems impenetrable.

The fact that it’s easier to kill this thing with HE than actual AP rounds really shows off war thunders wonderful logic
One of my favorite tanks at that br, practically what even got me into tanks. If used for sniping over long distances - it starts bouncing everything (didnt realize how good it was until I started playing against it) and that 4 degree turret traverse becomes practically unnoticeable when dealing with targets at over 500m. Great fun. (Also 5 crew members. Insane.)

People rush the spawn on a lot of maps because the maps naturally flow into the spawn and they don't wanna sit around and wait for the enemy to return. The map design/spawn point design in this game is F-tier.
Germany is also bringing back the panther. They unveiled a tank somewhat recently called the "panther kf51"
