    A very good video for a beginner, so they will not create 100's of global variables. Thank you for your time April.

    Excellent and simple explanation, thank you! People like you, Shane Young, Reza and Delaney have taught thousands of us the magic of powerapps.

    Hello April, your voice is so soothing. I just live hearing you explain concepts. For some reason hearing it from you make it so easy for me to grasp.

    Thank you, I was struggling, but I used the UpdateContext function that you taught in this lesson to pass a variable to another screen - worked like a charm Thanks

    Nice one! I learn to use set more than updatecontext and it works in 100% of the cases. However I need to know if there is an impact On the performance of the application since the performance inspector usually highlights the unused variables. Could you please share some insights on that.

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  Před 4 lety +1

      Hey Fady - Catching up on comments today, sorry for the late reply. This is a great question. As a general rule of thumb I try to keep my use of variables to a minimum because the more you have it can start to effect performance.
      Unused variables are definitely a performance issue and typically the performance inspector is accurate on those. I have found that it's a little buggy sometimes especially when using components and displays a false positive error. Any time you see that error I suggest going into the View Tab - Variables and finding the variable in question and check the Uses tab to make sure it is actually being used somewhere. If not you should remove it.

    When using a Screen along with a component (e.g. header component), do you recommend UpdateContext?

  • @kammistry6642

    do you have a playlist that walks you from step 1 through infinity on how to learn this step by step? i saw your other video on how to get started, then I saw you have these other small videos, so I thought maybe you have a course. you should sell it on udemy.

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  Před 3 lety

      Hey Kam! I'm slowly working on getting a more thorough playlist together. I do have a "Beginner Power Apps " Playlist on my channel that is a guided training of some of my beginner topics like this. A course is a good idea though - if I have the time maybe that's something I can look at in the future 😊

    Great video very simple and complete, just one question, wich i dont seem to find the answer anywhere. I understand the use cases, nevertheless Although it seems implied y havent found a recomendation of use of this two kinds of variables in terms efficiency (Memory, procesor use etc etc), this would by great.

    • @AprilDunnam
      @AprilDunnam  Před 2 lety +1

      UpdateContext() is going to have a lower memory burden than the Set() global variable. I recommend using local variables with UpdateContext() as for majority of the cases because of that. Use Set only if it truly needs to be used globally in your app.
