Happy Mother's Day to all of our chums around the world. Enjoy your special day ♥️ I enjoy Neil's lessons on the stars; the Hollywood & British studio systems, the wonderful movies & the stars. I grew up with my mother watching so many of the old movies & the best of the stars. She favored what she called the sad 'tear jerkers ' & rated them by how many tissues you'd use by the end. My dad enjoyed sharing the old gangster movies with stars like James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, etc. I'm so glad they did because I watch those old movies on streaming. It was definitely the Golden Age of cinema ❤ 👏👋 🇺🇲♥️🇬🇧
Couldn't agree more!and all aspects of these productions are done solely by this extensively talented gentleman ❤😊J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane. Australia 🇦🇺 ❤ 😀 🪃
Hapy Mothers Day , to all mothers , without whom , half of us would not be here . Thank you Mum(s) - stll love you , though you've been gone many years . All 3 of my Mums .
Wishing a happy and blessed Mother’s Day to all moms & mums 🤗 today/tomorrow. Just a recommendation, but if your mom is still here, get all the love & hugs you can. Trust me, when she’s gone, you’d do almost anything for one more hug! I know I would.
Absolutely love Rank films, I was brought up on them & still love them. The Gaumont & Odeon cinemas are real names from my youth, when cinema was truly great.
Hollywood had a charm school, makeover, hairline changing school here in America too. They made stars and churned them out. I love British movies, suspense, and comedy, doesn't matter, they are some of my favorites. Pinwood studios made some of the most wonderful over the top movies. They're on often here, and I try never to miss one. British cinema is really the best.Cheers!👋👋👋😁
Hi Neil ! Sorry about your allergies! It’s amazing how you find all these blue plaques. I think it’s very unique that the British do this. People would be surprised how many successful people went to charm schools. Thx 🙏 for sharing !
One of the reason I liked going to the cinema was to see the News . that is where I learned what was happening. I was a child, but I was never told even though we had to put up with bombs etc, . I loved the films . I liked that we would watch first film after the News and then the 'A' film. A real film programme. Not today, one film and that's your lot!.
There’s a thought, charm school, finishing school. Meghan Makle may want to check into charm school😂! Thanks Neil, and as always, be careful & take care!❤
Neil, I love the old British films, particularly the Rank, Gainsborough, Archer, and Ealing films. Thanks for another interesting bit of London /UK history.
One of my aunts worked for them as an usherette during the intervals selling ice-cream and sweets. She loved it because she would be able to watch all of the movies for free. 😊
Great story Neil and history of the film industry. That was the golden era. I thought you were going to bank on that Rank Film Gong Neil. That would have been a sight to see.
After watching this it brought back memories of the Rank sign in a town near where I lived. Looked it up and it was called Rank Strand. I never knew they made Studio lights and bulbs. I just remember driving past the sign when I was little. As for “Charm school”, maybe they need to bring that back.
Hello, Neil. I think J. Arthur Rank was a fine Christian man. He taught children's Sunday school for decades, and used his knowledge of film to help him reach students for Christ and further their learning. I think Rank made a lasting impact for the better. Much love, from Amber in Alabama.
I look for all the old films from the Rank organization as a young girl I saw all the old films both in the 40s and 50s . I left the UK in the late 50s but when we returned in the late 60s nothing was the same. The cinemas had gone or were very run down , heart breaking, so than heaven for U-Tube where are all the oldies are hiding out.❤❤
Hi Neil...thank you for this historical lesson..to see pictures of some of the "Debonair" stars of the era & hear some of their stories of the day is refreshing..you would have thought "manners" would have been taught while growing up..big wave to you....Happy Mother's day to all those who fit the position in our community..have a wonderful day..😊😊😊
Good afternoon Neil, Lovely interesting episode , Didn't realise this was another Yorkshireman, Such talent from this part of the country Thank you ,take care stay safe. Happys mums day to all mums wherever you may be Take care stay safe.
Loving the tie choice today my friend…hue is brilliant 👋 can’t sleep without wrapping the evening up with your input…love from Michigan keep up the nice work
Neil, if only buildings could talk. The stories they could tell . I think we could do with charm schools again. Another great histrionical movie story.
I thought this was an excellent report. I was a keen film fan and to learn all of this was top notch for me, Neil. I'm just trying to imagine Diana Dors being uncouth by spitting out her cherry pips! So obviously the Rank Charm school really worked. They should bring it back for some of the uncouth so-called 'stars' of today.
I love the classic British movies. Growing up in Australia we always had a lot of them on TV. I loved the black and white comedies but my favourites were the Gainsborough melodramas from the 1940s, The Man In Grey, The Wicked Lady and Madonna Of The Seven Moons being my favourites. I also felt the British film noirs are very underrated. Films like The Voice Of Merrill and Cage Of Gold are masterpieces in my opinion.
Fascinating history of J Arthur Rank. He started out making religious films to meet a demand for clean-cut films that could be shown to Methodist audiences because standard Hollywood output had too many bad things in them. What I found really interesting is the evolution through photocopiers, television, the music industry and later Top Rank which included night clubs and some early motorway service stations. In business if you stand still, you go backwards.
Waving from partly cloudy NW Arizona this fine late afternoon. I am hoping (slight chance) to see the Northern Lights Aurora tonight if we have such visible (iffy) and it is clear enough. I am a graduate of a short-term Hollywood "Charm school" with the late Carolyn Leonetti, before she was Mrs. Ahmanson of Los Angeles (a major LA theater is named for her and her husband).
🇭🇲🦘👋 This was another wonderful treat. I have always enjoyed the films made by the Rank Film Studios 🎬 📽 and always enjoy the beginning, when we see the man hitting that HUGE gong showing us all that our movie is about to begin. Interesting hearing about the way the business was run, with the charm schools etc., and what a great idea they (the charm schools) were, teaching basic manners and etiquette, that the actors and actresses could also take into their own 'day to day' lives. So not only showing up 'on screen'. Very interesting to also learn (which I didn't know) that the modern day photocopier came from this once great film studio. "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY" to everyone who is celebrating Mother's Day today, like here in Australia 🇭🇲 with love 💓 and hugs 🫂 to all mums out there. 💐 🍫 💐 "Thank you" Neil xx 👔 ⭐👋
Very interesting, Neil, I love this information although I've heard of the Rank charm School before and the many British stars who came out of there. Makes me wonder though, what is their equivalent nowadays though, does it even exist? Teaching men to be sophisticated and women to be elegant and how to present seems to be a thing of the past unfortunately.
Happy Mother’s Day around the world who are celebrating today💐🌼 🌺 🌸 🍫 💐 🍫

none of us
In the U.S., I can think of oh-so-many "celebrities" today who would benefit from a "charm school" to learn some basic standards of behavior.
And two X royal could use charm school too
To all the moms and fur moms in the world 💐💐💐❤️❤️ Happy Mothers day. 👋👋👋
First thing I do to calm down from MM/PH stress I watch Black and White British Mysteries!!! No one did it better!!!!!!❤
Wishing a happy and blessed Mother’s Day to all moms & mums 🤗 today/tomorrow.

Thanks, Neil, for this fascinating anecdote about the British cinema.
The older films had a good storyline that kept you captivated till the end.

I loved the opening of those J. Arthur Rank Films. That great big gong being hit told you that you were going to see a great film.
Hey all👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋 nice video😊
Greetings 👋 Neil and chums 👋👋👋
The topic of this story is interesting. The history of so much talent that entertained us.
Neil, I love the old British films, particularly the Rank, Gainsborough, Archer, and Ealing films. Thanks for another interesting bit of London /UK history.
Fabulous and fascinating story, thank you Neil.

Thanks, Neil, for a brief history of Rank Films. Waving back at you, Neil.
I think an etiquette school for movie stars, I use that title loosely, should make a comeback.
Great story Neil and history of the film industry. That was the golden era. I thought you were going to bank on that Rank Film Gong Neil. That would have been a sight to see.

👋👋💕💕 That was a great video Neil 👏👏 so many interesting facts. Thank you for sharing and all you do 😊💕
I enjoy many of the Rank films, the gong instantly recognisable just like the roaring lion MGM, those symbols are missing from films today
I love the old British films. I much prefer watching them, still today. X
