    It’s not a full-size truck, but only 10% of truck owners need a full-size truck. You see all the soccer dad‘s going flying down the road getting 15 miles a gallon in their $60,000 truck, just to try to prove something. Then they daily drive it and put a set of golf clubs in the back on the weekends. Twice a year they drive in wet grass so they got the off-road package. Got a love it good old-fashioned American consumerism!🇺🇸💪

    Honda Ridgeline Owner here (2018 RTL-E). For me personally, the HPD add ons are not worth the extra coin. They add nothing and in my opinion are a bit fugly. My opinion. I love my RTL-E. Super capable and comfortable truck. I have averaged 23.2 mpg over 57,000 miles I’ve added and that’s on top of the 145k miles I added to my 2008 First Gen Ridgeline.

    Coming from a ZR2 owner, I think Honda hit a home run on this truck. I know most will disagree, however look at what you get for the price. AWD which is one of the best if not the best system out there. Room for 5, Honda reliability, amazing tailgate access, trunk, and fuel mpgs to boot. If more people would just be honest they really don’t need much more truck then this. I always see guys with massive HD trucks driving around empty or aka hauling air. I sold my HD after selling the camper and went midsized. I don’t regret it at all, easier to park, drive, ect. Plus it gets way better mpgs… which as we all know, fuel is going way up… I just think egos get to much in the way over sensibility and it’s stupid. Travel the world and you will see nobody but us drives massive trucks that get crap mpgs daily. Most countries have midsized or even smaller trucks. Guess what, the market will change and big trucks will be heading out to pasture. That’s sad but true, but I don’t see fuel getting cheaper and trucks have gotten way to expensive. I see the market getting stronger for midsized and smaller trucks. We can brag all day long about the “tune” to our diesels trucks getting so called better mpgs.. yep been there done that and it’s horse BS.. At 48 and having lived a lot of life thus far, common sense has taken over and the reality of change is coming. Best be prepared, live sensible, buy what you need, and go store up some extra food, supplies and whatever you think ya need.

    we have a 2020 RTL-E, and take it everywhere hunting, snowshoeing, kayaking, etc. It has hunted pheasants in SD, whitetail deer in WI and snow geese in KS. If you are an outdoor enthusiast and or into hunting, this truck will do anything you need it to do, plus get you there with HWY mileage in the mid 20's. The full size pickup truck is the real gimmick in my opinion. They get 70K of your hard earned money and they still get stuck or run out of cargo room when you need it, and none of them have a trunk. Don't look past this truck because of how it looks, it is the Swiss army knife of the truck world at a huge cost savings compared to the big 3 full size offerings.

    Appearance packages are great, they add style and flare. This one is no exception, looks good. - My problem is with using HPD… - HPD stands for Honda Performance Development, the company's racing division in North America. Why tarnish and cheeped a name plate with this, a mere appearance package? Call it the Ridgeline Bronze Edition. Anything but HPD.. - It’s like releasing an Accord Type R, and not making any changes to the power train….

  • @jasonyoung8411
    @jasonyoung8411 Před 2 lety +3

    Okay, so I will chime in here, too. I do like the looks of the HPD version, but I do not think it warrants the price tag. I just picked up a used 2019 RTL-T Ridgleine for $35k with 29k miles. I love this truck, but it does have its cons...low ground clearance (can be fixed with a level kit), mini-van looks (can be fixed with a level kit, off-road tires, roof rack, mudflats, etc. to "beef it up"). I came from a 2019 F-150. The F-150 disappointed with leaking passenger side floorboard, broken lumbar support and the Ridgline gets 20% better MPGs and a lot cooler options. My friend has an F-150 with a clicking differential and squeaking brakes. I was getting scared of the F-150's reliability issues. Went from no sun roof to a fully powered moon roof, went from cloth to all leather, went from a solid back glass to a powered back glass, went from a column shift to a center shift stick, went from a fold down center seat to a deep center console. I love my new truck and cannot wait to begin to shape it into an overland vehicle. Yes, I am getting the ragging on how lame it is, but I don't care. It is very fun to drive and seems to be much more reliable than the Ford. And let's think about it..99% of people watching this video have some interest in (or experience with) the Ridgeline so it is not really a broad comment base, here. I am glad I traded because my last F-150 fill up was $82+ with gas at $4.09/gal.

    Bought the 22 RTLE cause I had to make a trip. Drove 90 mph to syracuse, very comfortably. Passengers included one dog, a noisy female and a bratty kid. No one even noticed I was driving 90, except me. I sold a 5 speed Frontier that had awesome suspension modification and homemade skid plates, but there was no way in hell I could drive that thing 90 mph without it turning into a nightmare trip. Now that I have driven the RTLE for a few months, here is what I like. The back boot is the bomb. Comes in handy all the time. All the time. The flip up seats in rear are awesome. I can put a pump back there on one side and still have the other seat in its normal position. Sometimes dogs want to be on the seat, sometimes it wants to sleep so it lays on the floor comfortably. Dog likes it. Now he wants to be on the seat again, now he wants to take a snooze. I hook up little trailer and go to dump. Hook up is easy but you have to get under the truck a little to attach. Vtec accelration is sufficient. 9 speed tranny is configured nicely for highway. 90 mph is effortless on the motor and very quiet. Handling is good in snowy areas. It is a little annoying because truck tends to get a mind of its own and controlling wheel spin the way it thinks best. Good for safety, but maybe not good for fun. Had it on dirt roads in about 6" of snow and there was never a point where I thought it might get it stuck. Things I dont like. Interior cabin light is a pain to turn on when driving. The light stream is very focused but not particularly bright. It a pain in the ass when your in the dark and want to turn on a quick light. Too many buttons up there and the area that must be pressed dont look or feel like buttons. Rear bed speakers sound like a monkeys azz. Kind of worthless. Shifter to go from park to neutral to drive is tricky to perform. I always have to confirm that it is in park by looking down at the shifter. Dog and the females like the retracting moon roof, but its something i worry about 7 yr down the road. Dog starts to smile when the roof opens, so at least someone likes it. The truck locks itself and opens itself automatically. But sometimes I dont want it to lock, but it does it anyway. Then has to chirp and unlock itself again. Same goes for tail gate. Im in NW Maine, no ones gonna steal the truck, so just stay open! Click.

    I also have a red rtl-e and compared to my old Nissan Frontier 4X,, this is like a StarShip. Crazy amount of roominess and stability. I still don't like the "Computer on 4 wheels" concept though. Debating rather to get a hard tonneau cover but I did put the silver step rails, body colored side protective moldings, silver rack & cross bars and sun roof visor. Center storage divider as well as the trunk dividers and the under seat storage tray to round things out. Love the duel tail pipes and safety goodies. The truck is more than I could have hoped for and the cost factor reflects that pretty well. Regular maintenance items seem to have been put on the back burner as far as convenience (unexceptable). Also,, so far the engine stop feature doesn't automatically default and I count that a good thing but wonder if there's something wrong? Any ideas? The sticker on the engine cover is missing also as noticed on the red one featured in this video?? Seems some have the EarthDreams sticker and some don't.??? Perhaps there's a reason for that and the engine stop feature not engaging automatically. So far, these are the only two hiccups I see and I'm not complaining. That engine stop issue is another "NO-NO" in my opinion. Having to hit that disable button everytime would be a pain that I would most definitely do!! Thats it for now. I have a 2021 Ridgeline and it was "Cool" when I bought it, else I would not have bought it, would have opted for the Ranger. But the 2021 Ridgeline has lots of cool features that the other don't have like the huge locking, watertight trunk, and the 2-way tailgate, and the sooth ride compared the the Ranger and the Toyota, and all the great options for less money than all the rest. My buddy paid $10k more for his Toyota and I have more options and the Honda is faster 0-60 than the Toyota - I know, cuz we did a drag race - I won.

    Love real truck guys covering pickups like the Ridgeline, the Maverick, and the Santa Cruz. After considerable research to find a pickup that will eventually replace our 2009 Kia Borrego V8 that tows our small Casita travel trailer (2,900 lbs), the Ridgeline would easily win the prize on paper! Capable tow capacity and very nice payload numbers in a wonderful AWD package (not looking for a true off-reader) that is comfortable, efficient, and effective. Hmm, the problem? It is truly a fine appliance. I learned to drive on a 1968 Jeep J-10 Gladiator pickup that was used to support my dad’s logging business. It was a TRUCK!!! There is still part of me that admires the more truck like characteristics of the Jeep Gladiator, Ford Ranger, Toyota Tacoma, and the new Nissan Frontier. On paper, the answer is the Ridgeline, but we shall see! ;)

The sad part is that they no longer make a v8 elcamino or idve gotten that.

    I owned a 2008 Ex-L and found the winter handling to be spooky. Thing would fishtail out of nowhere, would go from understeer to oversteer in a snap. Basically when the computer decided to do it, which you never knew. Now I would describe my highway commute as severe weather, I often still have to work when school is cancelled for the day. I wonder if they corrected this for the current model? It was fine around town in snow, but heavy snow or slush on the highway look out. Maintenance schedule was just fair too, but don't need to get into all that. Honda has a fine product here for certain applications. Assuming the buyers are comfortable with constantly having to explain to people whether it is a truck, SUV with the arse chopped off, or a minivan chassis.

      @@DCSPORTSTER Actually the opposite. Goodyear Wrangler silent armor with the winter snowflake. Very expensive tires and 16/32 treadwear. Yes it's because you don't drive in severe winter weather, you stay home. I drive a Ram 1500 with similar tires and the balance is very good and never spooky at all. You can lock it in 4x4 and 50/50 power split. I've commuted with a Mazda CX9 too and it's balance is better than the ridgeline too. I think it's a combination of light rear end with the open bed, no differential or axle weight compared to a real pickup, and the computer putting all that power to the rear randomly mid corner. Maybe the limited slip had something to do with it too. You have no clue.

    My number one complaint is the 1st gen Ridgeline was the last to fit a full size spare tire in the trunk. The 2nd gen is a local commuter with a donut spare only. In Mexico the 1st gen Ridgeline came with a full size spare tire in the trunk. I have a 1st gen with a matching 5th wheel in the trunk so I can drive out of state, and keep on driving. 1st gen also has a real key, columb shifter, and parking foot brake like a real truck. I think the 2022 has a electric parking brake, and shifter in center console wasting space. The worst thing about the 1st gen was the outdated stereo and GPS.

    Aside from the all wheel drive, a minivan is more practical. Fold all the seats down and you get a cargo van, fold them all up and you have way more seating. You can fit 8 foot boards much easier. You can actually fit 10 foot boards which you definitely cannot do in the Ridgeline. The towing is also incredibly similar.

    • @DCSPORTSTER
      @DCSPORTSTER Před 2 lety +2

      I did that for years I haul stuff in my van it’s extremely hard on the interior. When you got a box you can just throw it in the back and not worry about dirt oil or whatever else is there. And your interior stays perfectly clean. My Ridgeline has roof rack on it and I have a piece that goes in the trailer hitch you can put 20 feet length of whatever on top. Now that’s versatility

    I believe all 2021+ Ridgelines are AWD in USA. Keep in mind the RL is not like the other mid size trucks. They chose a different buyer group. The same group that would look at the Maverick or Santa Cruise. Personally, I like the performance and handling of my RL. The size is perfect and I can get 28+ mpg on the highway too. If buyers want to go off-road, get the body on frame truck with a low-range. However, Sarah-n-tuned has a Ridgeline review that is impressive for off-road ability. Hint, she does drive it spiritually.

But I really like my 2022 Ridgeline Black Edition and V6 without a turbo.

And I've driven many, many cars over 10 years of traveling and renting. The only part of hpd I like is the grill. Ridgeline offers great balance of performance and economy, it doesn't need more juice. The idea of fast trucks, or any fast cars, in my opinion is stupid. You can only go (legally) the speed limit, many a few mph over. The are no cars and trucks that won't go that fast.

    I really like Honda and I've owned several. My wife currently drives a 2021 Pilot. What I cannot forgive, and the reason I haven't bought a Ridgeline, is the fuel economy. I drive a 2010 Silverado and I regularly get 21-22 mpg average, which is right there with the Ridgeline. It's a 5.3 liter V-8. There is NO DAMNED REASON why Honda should be offering us a midsized truck, with bad styling, weak towing numbers, and bad fuel economy numbers, for $45k... I can go buy a GMC Canyon 4x4 that looks better with all the interior appointments of a loaded Ridgeline, and over 50% more towing capacity, AND a diesel that yields around 30 mpg, for barely $50k. Honda might be looking at styling that is more mature, or wanted, in other parts of the world, but they continue to miss the mark in North America.
