when the insulation resistance values measured between the neutral terminal and the earth terminal at a consumer unit are below 0.5 Mega Ohm. How do safety precaution to do the troubleshooting?
As a Canadian the wire colouring is VERY different over here. We would never have a black wire as a neutral conductor. Only white or grey (USA) . I would definitely struggle to troubleshoot circuitry over in the UK hahah
We were shown a quicker way set to 500v knock off the supply and test live to earth live to neutral and neutral to earth with test leads on the consumer units for each circuit. Correct me if im wrong as long as they read greater than 1000 m ohm
whatever the voltage of the supply you double the Voltage on the Multimeter so 240V is 500V on test. 1 Mohm reads >1000 on the tester which is greater than 1Mohm so what you say is right. unless the Insulation is damaged the reading should be fine
G Clarke The setting on the meter should be at least 2x the supply voltage i believe (e.g. if working on a 230v supply, a 500v setting should suffice) - i’m currently studying my level 3 and that’s how we’ve been taught
Dear sir, I have a done a house hold wiring for villa,During a megger test we notice that valve between phase and neutral is good 500 Mohm when test between Phase to earth wire it is shown as less than 100 Mohm when i remove the all wire from conduit and we test it is showing correctly as 500Mohm,After that i replaced all wire as New before pulling the wire in conduit i checked it is shown correctly as 500 Mohm after pulled the wire in conduit it shown as below 100 Mohm Please give me solution, Wire: National wire UAE Tester:Fluke 1663 Multifunction Installation Tester(new)
Not Sure we just check the circuit its connected to from the Consumer Unit. Usually the boiler will be on a 3A FCU which can feed off the sockets or its own Breaker but even then it still needs a FCU as the electronics on the PCB will fry.
You probably know the answer by now. You can't do an insulation test on a home combi boiler. best bet is to leave the switched spur in open, and perform the test of the installation
You do relise red, yellow, blue was the old phase colours with black being the neutral. As long as a sticker is on the front cover of the board stating its wired in two colour versions its perfectly ok.

Thank you for posting this clear & concise video, is most helpful indeed.
Superb as always sir.
What is the value should be In a cable while megering.and what is the low value will be while cable is poor.
Great teacher
should we also ensure that the panel isn't bonded when carrying out a live to earth test?
I think yes when inducing 500volts dc

For a LV system up to 500V. Apply 500V dc test voltage and your min IR test just needs to be at least 1Mohm to pass.

how do you determine what voltage range you set the meter on?

Sir please tell me when we should use 2500v, 5000v for megering.
never
@@petestrudwick lol Exactly.
Thankssss
dear sir, I would like to ask, what is allowable megaohm or maximum rather in conducting insulation testingwith 500 V
In Europe it's a minimum of 1 MOhm. There's no maximum for this, the more the better it is.
in Australia Minimum for appliance is 1Mohm and 10Mohm for certain other things like heating elements
Awesome video learned a lot. Thanks for the info. ......TEXAS
Thank you sir I'm indian
Oh dear
Dear Sir,
You have a lot of mistakes in DB
1- Colour Coding RYB
2- Wire lugs and insulation missing
3- Cable dressing not proper
You do relise red, yellow, blue was the old phase colours with black being the neutral. As long as a sticker is on the front cover of the board stating its wired in two colour versions its perfectly ok.
Not every region uses the same code or wiring scheme.
