- This presentation mixes some historical information with my own long and winding nostalgia for The Beatles 1973 compilation albums, 1962 to 1966 and 1967 to 1970 … universally referred to as the Red and Blue albums.
Dedicated to LGT for the gift that's kept on giving, DW for a delightful shore photo shoot, and Taylor Ham ... just 'cause 'sgood!

You are welcome from 2020 Lauren!!
Just don't go over the edge, ol' friend! Thanks again for providing the photos and for permission to share!
I listened to The Blue Album a lot as a kid on my 5th Gen 60gb iPod Classic. The Beatles still never let us down.
I remember playing 20 Greatest Hits on a Sony Walkman, while road tripping with my family as a kid. Good memories.
@@MagicalMysteryMike Didn't 20 GH, have a short version of Hey Jude?
@@jasonpp1973 Yes, I have a needle drop of the US LP, and it definitely used a five-minute edited version of "Hey Jude." It's been so long, that I don't recall if the cassette version did that or not.
@@MagicalMysteryMike The Red could have fit on a single cd.
I guess they wanted the packages to match.
For the cds, I prefer the colored fat boy case releases from 1993..
Hi.
Still the best Beatles compilation albums.
Back in 1976 these were among my first Beatles vinyls.
Still enjoy listening to these records.
Absolutely, without a doubt. There's no other compilation that even comes close!
62.66 should be expanded x
My Christmas gift from my brother in 1976 was the Red album. It was my first Beatles album. I was 12 years old and I was amazed. Soon after, I bought the Blue album. Having been totally blown away, I immediately began buying all of their albums. I've been a diehard fan ever since and I have to thank Red and Blue for the huge shift in my life by becoming a Beatles fan. Although Red and Blue understandingly have all songs penned by The Beatles, I always felt some other songs should have been included. For example, Red should have had Twist and Shout, I should have known better, If I fell, Taxman, Got to get you into my life and Please Mr. Postman. I know that's a lot to add but very deserving songs that shaped Beatlemania. Blue should have had the gem Hey Bulldog. Anyway, I love all of their music. Thanks for the great video presentation.
Great personal story. I got in around 11 years old myself. So many great songs!
The reason songs like please mister postman and twist and shout weren’t on the red album was because they were covers. Both albums contained only originals
Almost every Beatles tune was a "greatest hit" That's why the red and blue were just a money grab..
@@arnavtandon2814 Obviously, yes. That was the purpose for creating those albums, but I was thinking more of the impact some of those other songs had as a true collection of Beatles songs.
Very true. The Beatles had to fulfill a contract they had signed for I believe six more albums. The way to fulfill that contract was to release Red and Blue which would take care of 4 albums. They release Rock and Roll and The Hollywood Bowl to fulfill the contract. At least, that's what I remember from way back when. Probably, should fact check it but I think that is accurate.

I bought these 30 years ago when I was 15. The first Beatles cd’s I bought. Changed my life !
That's a strong sentiment, and one I believe you make in all sincerity.
What I find interesting in these collections is that each edition (1973, 1993, 2010), although presenting the same track list, offers different mixes between the same songs (not to mention the different mixes that exist between the English and American editions ).
For example, we can mention the unique mix of "Day Tripper" from the 1973 edition. The best equalization of "She Loves You" we have so far, contained only in the 1993 edition. And also the version of "A Day in the Life", with a "clean" introduction, without the fade out of "Sgt Pepper (reprise)", from the 2010 edition; among other examples.
Cláudio Sales - DJ Cal back in the USSR with a clean outtro too!
The mixes between all years and both countries are identical. What you are hearing is different mastering, which can bring out all kinds of details you've never heard or noticed before and in the case of U.S. albums, added echo and reverb. The only time The Beatles were remixed was when Help! and Rubber Soul came out on CD, Yellow Submarine released in surround sound and the Giles Martin stereo and surround mixes for Love, anniversary editions of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band , The White Album and Abbey Road.
there's also that weird intro at the beginning of Help on the original US releases.
The original editions of the "Blue Album" (the vinyl; the cassettes; the early CDs etc.) fade in at the beginning of "With a Little Help From My Friends" (since it crossfades from the "Pepper" title track). The 2010 version lets you hear "With a Little Help"'s actual beginning, unadorned.
Maybe you can explain how the 2009 remastering gave them access to that track by itself. It's pretty obviously the same exact take and mix.
I still have my 1970s vinyl copies of the Red and the Blue -- they were, as you say, my introduction to the Beatles...and I still fondly remember what it was like to listen to this magical music for the first time (and stare at that wonderful gatefold photo of the band among the crowd -- what were they all looking at?) Anyway, great video. Thanks!
There are so many interesting anomalies. I was speaking to a friend the other day about my CZcams channel, and how I focus almost exclusively on The Beatles. He asked, "Can you really do that many videos on The Beatles?" Hahaha. As long as there is interest, and I can create something interesting and informative, I think I could go on for years making these videos. I just love this band so much! Trouble is, what hasn't been said?
The remasters were done by EMI from the original tapes at EMI.
Why wouldn't they have access to those materials?
@@horowizard Because the crossfade from "Sgt. Pepper" to "A Little Help From My Friends" is in the two-track album master mixdown, itself -- which was the basis, not just for all vinyl re-releases and compilations from 1970 onward (including the red and blue albums) and the original 1980s CDs, but the 2009 remasters as well. It wasn't until the LOVE project and onwards that they went into the "stems" -- the original 8-track recordings -- and were able to take apart those mixes and rebuild them (yielding the new remixes of "1," "Pepper," "White Album" and "Abbey Road"). But the new versions of red/blue are from 2010, when this hadn't happened yet. (Remember that there were NO singles from "Sgt. Pepper" at all, so there wasn't a contemporaneous independent discrete mix of either song.)
@@JordanOrlando Forget stems. They didn't exist in 1967, nor did 8-Track machines at EMI until the White Album. Those songs were mixed separately and joined by an edit (which you can clearly hear). The only thing that links them is audience sound effect, probably flown in from a third machine. The transition was created for the album by making a tape copy and editing that back into the master. The same goes for the Sgt. Pepper Reprise into A Day In The Life.
@@horowizard Then why did the vinyl and original CD versions of the Blue Album have "A Day in the Life" with a fade-in from the reprise? (If EMI had the "original" you're discussing so readily available.)
Red/blue were my intro, bought on cassette in Australia in 1973 in red and blue graphic-ed cardboard boxes. The cassettes go back-to-back in each box - no outer plastic involved. Still have the boxes and the original cassette tape, but tape jams along the way meant I broke open the sealed plastic cassettes and replaced them (probably with screw-opening TDK shells). Not played since the late 70s I'm guessing.
I also have a combined Red/Blue complete sheet music album published by EMF (France) in 1997.
Couple of nice items there!
The first vinyl i ever bought was abbey road, and then i bought the red album a week later as my second record in my collection. I had so much fun listening to the red album when i first started collecting vinyl. Even though i have about 70% of their studio albums on LP, i occasionally go back to the red album.
I can totally understand this.
I was about to turn 15 in early December of 1976 and was just starting my life long love affair with the Beatles. I convinced my Mother to purchase me the red and blue albums as a birthday present. I had to agree however not to listen to them until the big day arrived. Naturally I couldn’t wait and didn’t waste any time getting started. I was hooked and the rest is history. Thanks for the background on these albums.
You're welcome and thank you for sharing this memory!
These were the first albums I owned. The red album was a birthday present from my parents on my 10th birthday (11/04/75) and they got me the blue album that Christmas. I was hooked and eventually bought all the American lps (which I still have). Great video, thanks for bringing back some great memories.
You're welcome, and thank YOU for sharing that. So many cool stories about how fans found The Beatles. Nice that you still have those records. I still have the first cassette I ever owned. :)
I wonder how many fans of The Beatles were born do these compilations. I was born in 67 and I listen to a lot of AM radio in 73 at the age of 6 and was a fan of John Paul and Ringo as solo artist not knowing they were all in a band together LOL. My sister got me 67-70 and then I went back and bought the albums. Great video.
Thank you ... Great comment!
Thanks for the great content! The Beatles "1962-1966" and 1967-1970" were my first Beatles albums and my introduction to John, Paul , George & Ringo when I was in grade school during the mid 70s. It also began my collection of Beatles group & solo recordings that continues to grow to this day. These two collections remain my favorite compilation albums. My only qualms about it are that 1962-1966 contain 2 less tracks than 1967-1977 and did not include any lead vocals from George Harrison. Adding George's "Taxman" and "If I Needed Someone" would have made 1962-1966 a much stronger collection. I have the "Red" and "Blue" albums on the original UK & US Apple pressings, US Capitol pressing from 1978, colored vinyl German (Direct Metal Mastering) Apple pressing from the late 80s, Japanese Apple pressing from the late 70s, US cassette versions from the late 80s, the 1993 remasters on colored vinyl and CDs and 2010 CD remasters.
Great comment. I agree about the missing GH songs!
Great video, Mike! The research is thorough and presentation is cute.
I'm glad you liked it! Thank you so much.
The Blue Album was my introduction to the Beatles, and I think it's the best place to start. you want to go straight for the gold and then start digging deeper afterwards. The tracklist is amazing and the songs hook you right away.
You certainly can't go wrong with these compilations.
Thank you for your videos. They are always witty and funny and well thought out and just always make me laugh whilst always touching a nerve deep inside me. You put enough little bits of researched trivia in there that resonate perfectly with me coz I know every little bit you mention. It's good to know there's others like me out there. You got me for life Mike. Peace 👋☺
This is one of the nicest comments I’ve ever received. Thank you very much. I really appreciate that you took the time to write this.
@@MagicalMysteryMike oh it was my pleasure. Keep up the good work!
Only 2 songs off revolver? And one of them is yellow submarine
Hahaha! Fair point!
Too much Rubber Soul, not enough Revolver for sure.
I think rubber soul had more "commercial" songs, any of those six could've been singles. That said Tomorrow Never Knows should definitely have been included at least!
The red album is missing "Taxman," "Got to Get You Into My Life," "Tomorrow Never Knows," and "Here, There, Everywhere."
@@jeffreyroedel9804not too much Rubber Soul. We need every track of Rubber Soul and of Revolver. That is why compilations suck.

Thanks for posting this video. I really liked it and I am happy to subscribe to your channel. I hope it grows to be a massive success and enables you to make a living from making videos like this one.
The subject matter for this video was particularly interesting and personal for me as these compilation LPs were indeed the format in which I was first introduced to The Beatles catalogue. My parents migrated from Chile to Australia in 1974 not long before I was born with just the shirts on their backs and they basically had to start their record collection from scratch. They bought the Red album as it was great value for money and contained some of The Beatles' best known hits. I remember they played it a lot at parties and all the songs were ingrained into my consciousness from the day I was born. They didn't buy the Blue album until a few years later when I was about 4 or 5. Because of the different cover with the band sporting longer hair, I thought that the music was being performed by a completely different group. I didn't realise it was the same group. I didn't know the music on the Blue album at all and the effect of hearing it was devastatingly influential. It honestly changed my life. I think beginning that double LP 1967-1970 with Strawberry Fields Forever is both chronologically accurate and artistically genius and one of the most serendipitous occurrences in The Beatles' existence. Strawberry Fields Forever is such a watershed song in The Beatles' canon. It comes exactly at the half way mark in The Beatles' career. It was the first song recorded after they decided to quit touring, the first song they recorded as strictly a studio band. As such, it represented a new phase of their lives. It was an expression of the way that they now considered themselves to be - artists - and they infused that record with every last drop of originality and brilliance. It was an artistic statement of perfection from four musicians who were at the top of their game. It is my favourite Beatle song of all. Every time I hear it I hear something new in it and it never ceases to inspire me.
I don't think this song could ever have had the influence it has had on my life if it hadn't been the opening track on that double LP 1967-1970. It is something that the 1 compilation from 2000 lacks and as such it heavily skews that single disc into a Paul McCartney themed 'Greatest Hits' package. I believe the Red and Blue albums more accurately represent the balance between John and Paul to The Beatles overall output rather than one over the other. And funnily enough, after saying all that, it is a fact that I rarely, if ever, listen to the Red and Blue albums at this point of my life. But I am grateful that the Blue album introduced me to Strawberry Fields Forever and has enriched my life in infinite measure. I am perhaps only saddened to think that kids that are new to The Beatles may never be exposed to the brilliance of this particular song because of its omission from the most recent widespread single disc Greatest Hits compilation.
I'm not sure about making a living from making videos, but I certainly will continue to make them for the enjoyment of it. Having viewers like you who are so supportive is definitely a great motivating force. Thank you.
This music is to be heard forever
Indeed! 😃
Own both of them on Vinyl and they are just fab!
Excellent! What pressing do you have in your collection? I know there have been nice colored vinyl editions made.
I first heard these on CD in 1994, as this geeky and nerdy dude brought it to school. I remember the guy tried to get our classmates to listen and they just laughed at him and some students even pretended to make exaggerated guitar motions to mock the Beatles.
You must have gone to school with me. 😉 😂
Yes - these were MY gateway albums to The Beatles that I bought in 1973 with my birthday money.
That's fantastic! The question is, do you still have those albums? I've been looking at my old cassettes from decades ago, and there's definitely a nostalgia about holding those albums. I'm glad to still have 'em. Good memories!

"You..." as in 1962-1966 / 1967-1970, or "You..." as in me? If "You..." as in me, that's quite a compliment, and I'd love to hear more of what you mean by that.
@@MagicalMysteryMike I watch a lot of unboxing videos, and I heard a song on the radio of The Beatles that wasn't "Come Together" again. Afterwards, I looked up The Beatles on CZcams. Also your channel is great. You deserve more views and subscribers. The presentation is always great and charming. Can't wait to see the Let It Be video!
Never have understood why neither Taxman or Tomorrow Never Knows were excluded from the Red Album. “Girl” was definitely expendable and also adding “Rain” would have captured that era.
I don't think they thought all that hard about it. These collections were out out to compete against bootlegs being released at the time. There are all kinds of changes one could contemplate, but all in all, it's not a bad reflection of The Beatles output.
Good video enjoyed it . I have the 8 track of those albums my uncle gave me👍🏻. The red album started it all for me. Ever since then I was hooked to The Beatles.
Good to hear from you Mr LennonAxl! Thanks for watching. These albums certainly went a long way in introducing a whole new generation of fans, that's for sure!

I will eventually do that. That'll be another nostalgic trip, as I remember watching it upon it's debut on ABC and getting theCDs.
Magical Mystery Mike same here I actually recorded the original broadcast on ABC. Buying the albums on release day. It was the time the red and blue albums were released in 93 where it all started. A perfect timing because of all the releases in the 90s live at the bbc, anthology, yellow sub song track and 1 in 2000.
It was a pretty exciting time, unmatched really until 2009.
Just came across your channel Fab content, l had the red album on double cassette back in the day wish still had to go with all my other Beatles CDs DVDs Blu-rays & Records
Funny, I just learned this week that Red and Blue were released as double cassettes from another comment. I purchased the cassettes probably very early in the 90's, and both albums were on 1 cassette each. I really did play that Blue album on cassette a lot! Before that it was 20 Greatest Hits on cassette.
These were my favorite albums growing up. My parents had them in their record collection but I wasn't allowed to play those. I ended up getting them on cassette. Do your cassette versions contain each double album on one cassette? The versions I have are split between two cassettes. My original copies long ago got ruined by a cheap tape player I had. Luckily, just a couple years ago, I found both cassette versions on a garage sale for ten cents each!
In junior high I used to mow lawn for a man who would pay me by letting me take a record from his collection. His collection was great because he would buy the record, record it to cassette, and then rarely play the record again. So after mowing one day I saw he had the red and blue albums! In my opinion, while the "1" album is a great collection of songs, red and blue are the best retrospective collection for the Beatles. Growing up listening to those albums is what made me dive deeper into their albums and really appreciate them over all these years.
Thanks for another great video. Looking forward to what's next!
Mark, thanks for your consistent support over the years. You're a good guy! My cassette versions were the whole album on a single cassette. Red on one, Blue on one. That's a fantastic story about mowing the lawn for records. I used to walk with a friend, what had to be a couple miles to a record store to buy cassettes as a kid. Funny the things we remember, huh?
I like how it had the original intro not fade in of day in the life

Those editions look so nice! I've not had these albums on vinyl. Perhaps I'll get 'em at some point.
Magical Mystery Mike Do you happen to have any Beatles on vinyl?
Yes, some, but not much compared to my CD collection. My prized vinyl pieces of The Beatles are a US original pressings of Sgt. Pepper in mono, and Let It Be with Red Apple label ... featured in this video, actually.
Hey Triple M, also in 1993 came out a cd with a George Martin interview, which he talked about 13 of the songs
Good call. I've not gotten this one yet, but I am aware of it and would like to have it in my collection. I even considered mentioning it in the video, but ultimately decided against it.

The cover photos for Please Please Me, 1962-1966, and 1967-1970 were taken at EMI House, Manchester Square, London, England.
Magical Mystery Mike oops I stand corrected sir 👍
I don't always get it right. It's great we can fact check each other and share info. Good stuff!
I have several different pressings of this LP from different countries. I even picked up the remastered CD versions released after 2009 at a independent record store for $7 each, they were like new.
Nice. Do you have a favorite vinyl version? That's a pretty sweet score on those CDs, as they were still charging a premium when these were rereleased in 2010.
My dad gave me the 1967-1970 vinyl when I was 4 years old, it was the album that jumpstart my interest in doing music. At this point, I have more copies of both sets than any other Beatles release. 1's will never be as great as the red and blue albums are, they are the best introduction for anyone who wants to explore The Beatles
Wow! Started young. Did that first copy survive? These albums are definitely the best career retrospective available!
Magical Mystery Mike yep, still have it till this day
Very impressive. You must have been a prodigy!
Magical Mystery Mike thanks. My dad, who is a long time Beatles Memorabilia Expert taught me at a young age to take care of my collection. As far as guitar, I’m third or fourth generation
If you already have all the albums and Past Masters collections, the only reason to have this release is for A Day In The Life with the clean beginning and Back In The U.S.S.R. with the clean ending.
Well, not the only reason. It's a historical release, as it was the first career retrospective officially released by the band. There's also the nostalgia of many fans having been introduced by this album. And finally, if you're a collector, ya gotta have it all. But otherwise, your comment is technically correct. ;)
Enjoyed the post. I was hoping you could go into details about what mixes/remasters were used for the different pressings and different countries.. Maybe for another post. Thanks.
Great suggestion!
The red and blue were my first Beatles albums. I got my first stereo in May of 1973 for my 13th birthday, and read a review of the LPs in the paper a few weeks later. Now I've been in Studio Two at Abbey Road, visited Manchester Square where EMI used to have their offices (and where the cover photos were taken) and stood at the site in St. Pancras old church where the gatefold photo was taken (note: the railings were taken down many years ago, but have recently been restored). It all started with these sets.
I noticed you didn't mention the info sheet that came with the vinyl LPs - one side listed the tracks from both sets with the corresponding album (or single) the song first appeared on. The reverse side was a discography of the band with group and solo work - LPs and singles.
This oversight was not intentional; I've not seen the info sheet. Thank you for the info., and thank you for sharing your experiences. Very cool.
congrats on 1k! :D

Magical Mystery Mike you’re very welcome! i just discovered the channel & it’s great! :D

Magical Mystery Mike thank you! you too!
Growing up I would have loved to have bought them on Cd in the 1990's. Problem was they were incredibly expensive. I mean almost $30 if I recall. That was so much money especially when you could maybe score another Beatles disk for $12 or so. For this reason these always had a premium to be coveted feel as a kid. Kind of funny now that I think about it.
They were expensive, that's for sure. That's why I hadn't gotten them right away. I was busy updating my Beatles collection from cassette to CD with all the 1987/1988 releases of the original UK albums, which I had to buy one at a time until I had the whole collection.
you can not imagine how i loved and listened to these two double album compilations. for me they were the holy grail of the beatles music until 09/09/2009 when came out the real holy grail.
You're writing to a guy who spent 3 days putting together a 12-and-a-half minute presentation of these albums; I might have a small insight into how you feel. LOL. I assume when you mention the "holy grail" you are referencing first and foremost the IN MONO set? ;)
@@MagicalMysteryMike no, actually i refer to a stereo box set, which contains all beatles songs and in my opinion a much better sound.
That hurts Hernan! LOL! I held off on the stereo box for a while, but finally went all in and I love it too.
@@MagicalMysteryMike yeah it's a Matter of taste. I don't know, many people prefer the mono box set. I find the sound too muddy and flat for me. The stereo CDs sounds more clear and cristalyne and the vocals are more Up to the front plus It includes all the Beatles albums.
I would love to see all the albums get the stereo remix treatment!
They're great compilations! I have them on coloured vinyl 😁
Cool! Those colored vinyl editions look very nice!
I was going to mention that as well. My mom worked for a record company, and she received the red and blue vinyl editions, the white vinyl version of The White Album, as well as the Sgt. Pepper Picture disc.
Own both on regular vinyl and have both red / blue vinyl versions .Also have the white album on white vinyl , love songs on clear vinyl , and abbey road on green vinyl.
Colored vinyl and picture discs are nice collector's pieces, for sure.
The Grey Album’s cover, tho. Really love the combination of the two stairwell photos that I laughed approvingly
It's so forced, but so well done, you gotta love it! ;)
Great video Mike! I copies of these from Germany, Japan, UK and the US. Do plan on buying the new remix releases?
I'm a sucker, so yes, I ordered the latest reissue of red and blue.
The 2023 editions are the best, especially the Red!
Thanks for the video. Which year/release date of the CDs do you prefer for the best sound quality?
I Found all The Beatles Albums on SACD!
Excellent! How are you enjoying them?
@@MagicalMysteryMike They are awesome I found them on a site that no longer exists but I've kept the files. Who knows if the others will come out as box sets. I Also have paul simon graceland 5.1 sacd which is also unreleased. These files only play on a sony s370BDP the 2010 model.
@@rinkrat06 interesting.
@@MagicalMysteryMike yeah maybe I could email you the file man!
I was born in 72' for sure my entry point into the Beatles discography. would not mind seeing a deep dive in to the lads other 70s- 80s compilations as I suspect comps like RnR' Music and Past Masters got successive generations into their timeless music.
I was wondering about that. I recall seeing the Love Songs album at a friends house as a kid, but I'm not sure these other compilations had the impact of Red and Blue, or the 1 album, first released in 2000. Personally, I never had many of them when first getting into The Beatles, whereas I definitely had Red and Blue. 20 Greatest Hits (US version) was another that I listened to a lot and enjoyed in my early days of Beatles fandom. Past Masters I don't consider as much a comp. I suppose it technically is, but I always lumped them in as part of the core catalogue, since they were made up of the singles, EP tracks not included on any studio album.
This Video deserves way more likes. ❤️✌🏼👍🏻
That's a very kind comment. If you wouldn't mind answering, I'm curious what you enjoyed. I'd like to continue making these videos, but I'm attempting to fine tune them. Would welcome your feedback!
Magical Mystery Mike I like your video as you have a lot of knowledge on the Albums & the Band. Like things I never even knew existed until I’d seen the video. There are other reasons but I don’t want you getting a big HEAD! haha Stay cool Mike & keep them videos coming ❤️✌🏼👍🏻
Thanks again for the feedback. I'll keep pressing forward!
By the way, cool profile pic. Love Donnie Darko!
as someone who’s young enough for their gateway to be 1, i agree that the red and blue were more impactful to making me a fan of the band. i’ve been thinking about grabbing those Japanese mini LPs as they do still appear to be available.
The Japanese mini LPs are nicely done, Brian. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated.
I found both red and blue albums in a local store. I was about to buy them but this covid-19 stuff happened and well...
Dang 2020! I hope you get another opportunity to get the Red and the Blue!
I already had all of the official Beatles CD's when I also picked up the Red album that I also had on vinyl long ago. There was only one thing that I really wanted it for. The James Bond like opening to "Help". I was not happy to find that it had been removed from the CD form. It's was of course on the vinyl. I ended up buying the most recent CD of the Help album. It was there that I could hear the awful hum on that section. It had probably been masked back in the day by surface noise on vinyl.
Yes, the American pressings of the Red on Capitol had the James Bond theme intro and Capitol mixes of a lot of the songs. The original UK pressings on Apple Records did not have that James Bond intro., which is why it was not on the CD. For that you needed to get the U.S. Albums CD version of Help! that was released in 2014, which it sounds like you did. It was also in the Capitol Albums Vol. 2 box set.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
@@MagicalMysteryMike Just one thing though, the original 1973 release: Apple SKBO-3403 (whole and sliced apples on red background) does have the James Bond intro as well.
bulldogdave I don’t own a copy with this feature, but I’ve heard this. If I recall correctly, only the U.S. LP version featured that “bond intro”.
Thank goodness my brother had The Beatles Red&Blue albums on his Ipod if it wasn't for him I would have never got into The Beatles
Question is, how'd you manage to get that iPod away for him?
@@MagicalMysteryMike He gave it to me when I was 10
That was very kind of him!
Magical Mystery Mike is hunky 💪
Well, it's like I always say, "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Hunky!"
All through my days...
I me Mike
I me Mike
I me Mike
Hi ya Mike, I'm sure these releases were a massive introduction to new entrant fans post break up. In the early 80's & still at secondary school my mate played them for me & then recorded them on cassette for me to take home & keep. You could ask for no better introduction & I've him to thank for opening that door! A seamless journey through musical progression & a hook in my case that's never diminished. To anyone out there please also pay special attention to Anthology 0 which gives a unique & are insight into the true essence of the Beatles & the foundation for what was to follow. To quote lyrics, Don't Let Me Down, well for sure they didn't! 👍
Massive introduction, indeed! With "Anthology 0" are you referring to the documentary?
Hi Mike, yes in part & equally the earliest body of recorded work including that pre dear old ring! It's incredibly raw & vibrant & a statement of desire & intention! Take care 😉
Ah, yes. My last video was covering the Hamburg recordings, if you have any interest: czcams.com/video/p-SAJ9Kb17I/video.html
@@MagicalMysteryMike - Hi ya, yes I'll catch up with that one. A great listen are also the very early recordings made for the BBC. They're enhanced with the great fun & wit of all the lads between the tracks recorded live!
I have the blue album on blue vinyl.
The Red Album is also available ... on red vinyl.
I made up a cool hello good w all guitars and strings. I call it the full mix version.
That's cool.
Yeah this is my wife's account. I I dont to put my stuff on CZcams. But sometimes I do. I don't know.
Do it! No reason not to, if you want to. You can always stop if you don't enjoy it, but it seems like you have a real interest, so just put stuff up!
@@MagicalMysteryMike thanks for the encouragement.
They could've added more songs in those LPs.
Most certainly on the CD version of 1952-1966.
Blue album was my first Beatles album at 14 years old in 2001. Ohhhhhhhhhh that album.
I bought because of "I am the walrus" and little did i know where that album would take me.
Now in my opinion as an old man 34,
"The White Album" is their best and finest work. The Sgt pepper myth is bigger but the White Album is far superior
Look at you, going the distance with 1967-1970, instead of flowing with the 2001 crowd by going with the 1 CD. Proud of you, my friend. Can't get I Am the Walrus on 1, now can ya?
@@MagicalMysteryMike No or "Strawberry Fields forever". I had heard The Beatles on classic rock radio in the 90s when i was a kid, but never heard I am the walrus until i was 14. That song is what did it, and that's what led me to the Blue Album and then six months later for Christmas my first guitar
That's awesome! Rock on!
@@MagicalMysteryMike I'm anticipating with a great anticipation on your White Album video. That is their magnum opus, the top of the Beatles Mountain. Again, the Sgt Pepper myth is bigger but the White Album is far superior
I've done a couple white album vids. It's such a great album, and I think it's my favorite (presentation wise) of the three super deluxe sets issued thus far.
Since Get Back/Let it Be is delayed to 2021, I'm guessing Apple may release Giles Martin-remixed versions of Red and Blue this December. Just a hunch!
That's an interesting theory. What leads you to believe that?
I absolutely love the Beatles red and blue albums I think they are the greatest albums ever for those who want a good introduction to the Beatles. When I first bought the red and blue and they were on CD back in 1993, then I bought the remastered versions a few years ago when it was remastered in 2010
I have both the UK and the American additions I love the unique mixes, especially that you were phonic stereo mix as of I feel fine she loves your ticket to ride I wanna hold your handAnd I also love the James Bond like introduction to the song help when she can only find in the American version of that song and not in the UK version.
I thought that the remastered vinyl was really good and I still enjoy them to this day.
Maybe one day they are smart and can you re-mix those songs
What I find interesting is that John and told George Martin to take care of the recording and I thought he did a great job.
What is your favorite Beatles album?
I like the veggie packs on the red and blue album instead of these jeweled cases.
Thank you for the comment. These collections were well done and I'm glad they've continued to get updated. My favorite album, as if I can pick just one, would have to be Abbey Road.
Is the remaster better sound..hope the 2023 mix is amazing
@@knockedoutloaded279 yes it is especially in the vinyl format which is great because they use the original analog master tapes which I think is fantastic and the remastered 2010 version on CD is good too it’s very much an improvement from the 1993 CDs that I bought with their Juul cases.
Is there a green album?
Stuff from after Beatles (solo)
Not officially, no. As far as colored albums go, there's The Beatles, also known as the white album, and these two, the red and the blue. There was a popular unofficial compilation known as the black album as well. That may be what you're thinking of. Actor Ethan Hawke compiled it and featured it in the movie Boyhood.
I remember the ad on TV for Alpha Omega it had some guy with a fake British accent saying " there will never be another band like the Beatles! I have volume 1 i got it on eBay.
Interesting.
I have the alpha omega box set on 4 records bought at a yard sale for $5
I would have snatched that up too! Have you listened to it? I'd be interested to see you do a video on that.

@@MagicalMysteryMike yes and solo Beatle songs from john Paul and George. But they skipped Ringo !
There are only 26 songs on the Red album compared to 28 on the Blue ... the first compilation could have used two more songs. Perhaps "She's a Woman" and "Taxman" ... thoughts??
Good choices. Nice to get an extra George song. Alternatively, how about I'm Down, and ending the red album with Tomorrow Never Knows?
@@MagicalMysteryMike Cool with both of those but I think She's A Woman is one of the Beatles' most underrated singles (and not on any albums) and George deserved another song. Stay well!
You didn't mention the blue vinyl /red vinyl pressings...
No, I don't have those, unfortunately; however, they are quite nice!
Seems like next video will have a new milestone
It appears so! I am pleasantly surprised! Thank you for watching!
Milestone achieved! ;)
The ONLY Beatles albums I DON'T own.
Really? Any particular reason?
Do they sound better remastered..
hi. i found a similar vinyl to yours from our attic and i think it is japan version/pressing and i saw that it has a signed inside. my japanese uncle was the owner of the vinyl and he got back to japan with my auntie but i dont wanna ask them about it because i think its very rare and i wanna sell it secretly cause they dont give a F abt it and junk it in the attic
Well, first off, I can't advocate selling the item without consulting the owner; however, you can look up the value on Discogs if you're curious. For the most part, I find this to be a reliable source for fair pricing.
I have colored viynl versions of the Red and Blue albums
Very cool. Those look pretty sweet!
I think the selection of songs for the red album is better than the choices for the blue one! what’s your opinion, guys?
I actually prefer the Blue album, but I think that's because I'm slightly more partial to the later period Beatles.
Can you talk about Beatles bootlegs or beatlegs?
Beatlegs ... LOL! I don't take much interest in bootlegs, but I may discuss at some point.
damn
Would you like to elaborate on this comment at all?
Past masters is better than 1 album
The collection of Past Masters is very good, I agree. It was a great way to round up the non-album tracks in 1988, and I'm glad it was remastered and repackaged in 2009.
It's pork roll, not Taylor ham!!!!!
Hahaha! I was waiting for that! Showing my roots.
You should review the bee gees Sgt Peppers
Oh, God! I've managed to steer clear of that. Not sure I ever want to see it. Have you actually watched it? Do you enjoy it, or is this comment more in jest?
First!
Well done, indeed! 1st to the No. 1 career retrospective of The Beatles. Red & Blue forever!
What a waste of money. I prefer the single CD 1 album.
I'm sorry you feel that way. It seems you're in the wrong place. Head over to this video and all your dreams will come true: czcams.com/video/LDNeFMpemuA/video.html
@@MagicalMysteryMike maybe I have a bad menory of acquiring that. I spent my Hard earned money to buy the Blue album. Then when I opened it I got a defective CDs.
I had that happen as well. The glue from the packaging had ruined the disc.
