- The slot car and Lionel railroad crossing is working but I have some kinks to work out. It is going to be a lot of fun! I'm now thinking that the braids from the slot cars shorted out the right lane - I'm not sure how to remedy that yet.
The slot cars are Carrera Go, 1:43 scale. I have removed the magnets from my cars so they will slide in the turns - I was happy they went up the hill okay. I treat the tires with WD-40, which softens the rubber and makes them more grippy.
The picture at the beginning: my sister found it and gave it to my wife yesterday - so it seemed appropriate for the slot car video.
This is a sweet layout you have. Always wanted to put a train with my slots. Love it! Gave you a sub! Look forward to seeing more! Great job on the crossover!

Awesome. I did something similar years ago with my ho life like sets. I cut a slot in the car track then i heated the train track and melted it into the car track. Then i used black gasket maker to fill in the space between the two to keep them from making contact with each other. You have an awesome setup.
When I was young, I thought those HO slot car combination sets were really sweet! I never did have one. At the time, I didn't have the knowledge or skills to do what you did - I barely have any knowledge or skills now. Ha ha.
I'm actually surprised that the two manufacturers don't get together and make a set in 1/48 with Lionel trains and Carrera cars.

Double the fun. Fail to understand why more folks don't do this or even why the slot car track companies do not make and offer a factory made crossing piece. A couple past HO companies did. I'm thinking about try to do it with G Scale and Scalextric Slot Car Track. Please share more as things develop and improve.

Putting a capacitor across the motor might help with jerking.
And are you going to use a relay to cut power. To car track as train. Approaches crossing.
I think a relay to cut power to the slots when the train approaches is the only option besides making a dead spot on the slot track about a 1/2" out from the 3-rail.

I was thinking of doing something similar with the carrera go cars
I really enjoy them. I've taken the magnets out of my cars - so they'll slide around a little. I treat the tires with WD40 to soften them up - otherwise they get no traction without the magnets. Thanks for commenting!

This is awesome. Since the right track shorted out, is there a way to wire it so the cars in the different lanes would travel in the opposite direction? I had an idea like this, and love the fact that you made it work!!!! I don't think I would be brave enough to have the slot car track cross my train tracks, however. Kudos for your bravery and creativity!!!!

Slow down the Train speed so you can just barely make 2 car laps at the crossing. And hopefully at that train speed the train will just be clear of the road crossing when completing the 3rd lap with the car, and now the next 2 car laps must be faster than before because you started after the train length rather than before.
