Interesting video as I have rarely heard Paul Anka talk. One thing that is often mistakenly said is that Elvis returned from the Army in 1960 and found The Beatles had taken over. The Beatles first became huge in the UK in 1963 and then the US 1964, while Elvis had another 10 or so huge global hits in that time.

    • @NickyMetropolis1313

Elvis had hits throughout the 60s and 70s. When the Beatles had been broken up for 2 years, Elvis sold out Madison Square garden as a solo artist 3 nights in a row. The following year he had the Aloha From Hawaii special. He won grammys in the 60s. He was one of the biggest touring acts of the 70s.

@@jemmajames6719 Of course not. Arguably the best band ever. But the arguments some of their fans make are silly. Even the arguments from the Beatles themselves are highly immature.
Lennon said Elvis died in the army. No John, Elvis voice got better and bigger, he won grammys and had tons of hits after the army.
George Harrison said Elvis was wearing a costume with a big cape in NY 1972 and said something like Elvis should have just come out with his old faded jeans like when he did the Louisiana hayride! This coming from a band who's fans said they missed the moptops when the 4 lads were doing psychedelic Sgt Pepper (in costume of course).
Paul said Elvis was in his "flakey period" in the 70s. Aloha from Hawaii, Paul. Called by critics "restrained (vocal) perfection.
Elvis in the 70s, several albums, dozens of live shows, 2 award winning documentaries. This all while the Beatles called it quits.
Beyond that, many criticized Elvis for the Vegas residency meanwhile EVERYONE nowadays does Vegas including Paul and as hard rock as ACDC does too. What Elvis did is only now starting to be appreciated on its artistic merits.

I love how you can see Bill trying to keep his s**t together when Mr Anka casually says how he was hanging with the Beatles. I know how he feels. Totally mind-blowing.

When Bill is speechless that means he met and learned from someone else. Bill is an incredible comedian but Paul Anka, a Canadian, had the flow and Bill just followed his wake. This was an incredible interview. Paul is Paul but Bill showed his vulnerability and appreciation. That is all that matters folks.
