- In this video we talk about the important factors that make up your tapping ability and the things you should be training on and avoiding. These are my personal thoughts simplified as much as I could to make it into an easy to understand video. I didn't cover misc stuff and going into bigger details as I didn't want to confuse new players. Hopefully you'll be able to take something from the video and it will help you in your journey to improve with Stamina/Speed. Remember do not rush take your time, If you can't do a 180 bpm stream near perfectly don't try 200 just yet!

"I don't care if it's 4-star or 10-star!"
*Cries in 3-star* :(
idk if you should be worried about speed or stamina at that skill range just have fun and learn the game
@@july7896 most people who are in the 3* range are low 6 digit/ high 5 digit so it's important to worry about speed and stamina
@@vapor7653 nah actually people in low 6 digit transitioning to high 5 digit are s ranking 5 stars and getting there first 200pp plays maybe 250pp. if u are in the 3* range then stamina and speed is definitely nothing to worry about at this stage. Just enjoy the game and play fun maps or songs that you like and start building the foundations of basic skill sets like just getting to know ur sense and listening to rhythm and be able to read ar7-8 and doing some slow triple taps instead of trying to go straight to in depth specific skill sets like speed when there wont be any speed related maps in 3 star range or even 4 star range. If you started to try and work on speed at this range then that means learning higher ar but whats the point when theres isnt even any maps that are above 9.5ar in the 4 star range let alone 3 star. Also speed includes having to learn higher bpm streams......... like there are gonna be any streams in 3 star range. It's just like in any other game or sports for example: trying to learn how to aim a football when u kick it to go right to the top right when u havent even gotten a proper feel of the ball and no experience. things like these just come over time once u know how powerful u need to hit and where u start ur run and how to hit the ball with ur foot. Then you start focusing on one skill set if u want like aim or control over the curve. In other words just play the damn game while its the most fun and just play like you would in any other game. If you're looking to get better then this video aint for you. you just need to keep playing and slowly you will find ur mechanics are getting a bit better then start trying slightly higher star ratings. only like 0.1-0.3 stars higher. For some people it takes longer then others
prob just dont farm too hard lol and you'll be fine with tapping at 3* time and ye I'm low 6 digit and a decent play is when I fc 5-5.5 star a good play would be 5.5+ (I'm talking tv size easy farm because thats what most people know I'd say)

i don't have problem with speed, the problem is when the streams become s p a c e d.
It's all about staying super relaxed and moving as smooth as possible. I aim spaced streams the same way I do alternatey maps like "The Creator". I also use the approach circles to tell where my cursor should be on the stream. I look at the approach circles in one big group and see where they're closest to the beat and aim around that timing window. It's a little tricky to get used too but now it's automatic for me, looking and seeing where the stream is kinda flowing in time with the music and I just let my cursor flow with it
Also in my opinion for a 180bpm spaced stream you even need to be able to stream 190bpm flawlessly. So you can do 180 in your sleep and are very relaxed while streaming so you dont have to Focus on your tapping and can focus on your aim. Also when you only can do 180 and you start understreaming youre fucked so having the ability to stream faster to catch up helps a lot.
i cant aim streams
I stream 200 bpm but it when its spaced i would failed
god i hate when streams get spaced
finally a tutorial without "play more" being the answer

Little tip: Icy Water gives the same waking-up and energy boosting effect as coffee, while not relying on caffeine or anything unhealthy. It can also help with shaking a slight bit.
that's cool but did you know that drinking 1 cup of coffee a day in a normal amount can be good for health? it helps with reducing the probability of having cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
@@julianloren2959 wait fr, because i always drink a cup of coffee a day, nice.
i'm unsure where you're getting this info from, lmao. caffeine is a psychoactive chemical of the stimulant class that releases a surge of dopamine (albeit small) in a similar manner to other stims. Water is a liquid that hydrates you.
@@permutemusic caffeine is much more than a psychoactive chemical, it has many physiological functions. There are a bunch of articles online, you can check some out

"tap lighter and don't tense"
Sir i just HIGHLY improved my streaming skills with your tips.
I just kept focusing on my left hand to tap as light as I can, and my results just got much better.
Thank you!
Should I very quickly switch to a lighter tapping style or should I let it be a slow change?
@@doormaat5033 i would just switch straight away as its like a sens it takes way longer slowly adjusting to get used to the new sens so id say just fully switch
@@doormaat5033 i know this is way too late, but, i switched immediately and set new PB's on every chart I played, so i can confirm that the quick switch immediately made me improve a ton
You might have accidently posted in the same beatmap link twice on beatmap 4 and 5 in your describtion ... but still huge thx for making this video
fixed thanks!
Already did everything in this video and everything Ryuk said on stream and it really helped me a lot from not having much stamina and speed on 210bpm from now going to 240+ bpm for deathstreams I started that training when Ryuk dropped his video and everything in this one is also things I've done to help me.
Good thing to teach others to do this as well! Keep up the work! c:
The lifting of the arm is something I've noticed you and aetrna both doing.
Honestly didn't know what it was for until now but I'm glad you shared this. Thank you.
Great High Quality video! Thanks for making this as i somehow learned to tap lighter and feel more relaxed while streaming since i mostly tense my fingers a lot now that i think about it. (i love it when people like you make videos like this).
Considering how fast you improved recently, I'm exited to see your take on improvement videos like these. Excited for this premiere :)
yo spare just wanted to say that in 3 hours following your tips i improved A LOT on streaming, keep up the good work!
VERY HELPFUL. I WILL DO THIS IN THE FUTURE TO IMPROVE MY SPEED AND STAMINA
edits are awesome! Good job.
Going to try this! Your explaining is on the top.
I'll leave this here as a bit of a reminder for myself. Right now, I can only do ~12 note 220bpm bursts, and I can't really play long streams of any length or bpm, even
Gl on your journey :)
and how is it going, are you already able to do 13 notes or still stuck at 12 for 220bpm?
@@MultiMinors Yo, I'm not really playing that fast yet. I switched to index and ring for comfort, and I'm building back up. I can stream 180 fairly comfortably now, but I have issues with drifting into tapping too early. I can do 200bpm for around 30 notes before dropping acc. I don't practice any higher bpm stuff just yet, but I can play very short 260bpm bursts from playing Tower of Heaven with DT. I've played a lot recently, so I'll take a little break and maybe start trying 220 when I come back
how is it going?
What's your improvement?
Very cool. Ryuk's video on this matter helped enough. I am sure yours might be able to help me out on this a lot as I dream of being a good stream player. Thanks! :3
Great video Spare, looking forward to seeing more of these!
Thank you so much for making this video, even as a mania player the majority of these tips really helped me jump from 3 star maps to 4 star maps!
I've started playing with my keyboard in a vertical position and use left and right arrow keys to tap. This allows me to rest my entire arm on my minimal desk space and makes tapping much more comfortable.
I once found that my speed and stamina greatly increased when I tried to tap quietly. My keyboard is a bit loud, and my room is above my parents, so they sometimes complained when I'd play at night. So whenever it got late, I'd intentionally try to tap quieter, and removing the force I normally used when streaming really helped.
Of course shortly after figuring this out, I went on vacation for a few weeks and for some reason couldn't do it anymore but I'm way better at streaming now anyway.
@@barennora5640 for one reason or another this little mini-thread feels really wholesome, i dont know if this was intentional or not but yeah i just thought id put that out there, peace
I had some issues like this too and it forces me to tap quietly haha
Got this video recommended and I'm very happy, that I watched it. Good tips Spare, they really help for getting my streaming consistency back.
Keep up the amazing work !! Have an amazing day :))
this is actually VERY helpful
thanks a lot for this video!!
One of the things i do is try a map 1-5 times and move to the next map to do the same thing. I’ve gotten many of my fc’s this way and it makes the game a lot more fun to play when you’re playing a bunch of different maps
Ryuk recommended to do Dr. Levi’s hand exercises before warming up to prevent RSI and it also warms your hands up to be more efficient when playing. I tried it for around 10-15 and it works. :D
glad you kept this video loved it . just started a couple months ago and have gone from 4.4m to 400k very helpful .
yo this actually works. deadass after i watched this video and focused on the aspect of not tapping as hard, i played some few heavy stream maps and crazy maps such as unpleasant sonata and burn this moment into the retina of my eye and my streams were more consistent, accurate, and fast. not to mention my single tapping speed got faster and my accuracy did improve on said maps since i didnt focus on tapping that much.
you know those times where you just watch one thing or learn something immediately got better because you were just using the wrong technique? yeah. i just had that moment. thanks man
I've never seen such a perfectly made tutorial video, it's simply so well explained and it encourages you to keep going.

I was watching this while playing osu. I tried some of the techniques and I have now stopped tensing and it’s made a big improvement even in the first few I did after this. Thank you. You also stopped me from feeling panicked when others are around.
My tapping looks scarily similar to the "bad tapping" example, and my stamina is trash...
Guess I know what I'm working on this week.

Really interesting videos. I don't think I've ever heard some of your advices in other videos I watched, so I'll definitely try it out !
Very good video Spare, I want to say the lighter tapping part was something I started doing a few years ago after I believe Azer mentioned it during one of the HappyStick interviews, I used to tap really hard on my reds and once I started tapping lighter (just enough to actuate the switch), I had my stamina almost double from 20 circle to 40 on 180bpm within a few days, so that's been the first thing I tell friends when they start streaming from a while now, I think bad tapping techniques and habits can lock a lot of people into slow or almost non-existent improvement, so I'm glad you covered it well!
The raising of the arm when losing stamina was actually something I haven't tried before, and I'm keen to try it out. If I have any new friends that start playing the game I'll probably link them this video because it's really short and sweet, and easy to understand and take mental notes of.
Great video, I'm excited to see you possibly make more of these improvement or generally more serious styled videos.
here before it blows up
I tried to tap softer and got better aim and more stamina instant even tho I dont manage to tap soft most of the time :D

Phenomenal video quality. Good job, Yanny.
I like top players perspectives on things like this, because the way the info is portrayed has subtle differences which might help someone, and and clear and concise (usually xD). This video rlly shows that, as so.ething such as lifting your hand when running out of stamina isn't something 90% of players know.. and information from just as knowledgeable and experienced players that give the same info sadly don't go around much... thus it's typically the top players where the info comes from.

A website that helped me greatly with idenfying my streaming problems was this one: ckrisirkc.github.io/osuStreamSpeed.js/newindex.html
With the website I learned that my peak streaming performance for 8-20 clicks was 120 bpm at most and even dropping down low 90s often. This was a problem that gated tons of 5* maps for me and making them impossible even though I had no problems with bursts and accuracy at all.
To improve my issue I spent the past 4 months constantly playing stream heavy maps going from 4,2* to 5,1* maps and improving my stream speed to whoping 170 bpm with an UR of 90 while having very little progress at my rank and often deranking for multiple weeks (my rank progression currently is a mess)
EDIT: you light tapping tip is by far the best I got, it's very weird to use but I think there is a lot of potential that I can grab when I master it, thanks!

thanks for this spare, recently after applying some of these techniques i ended up getting my first A rank pass on ROG, and got a 88% pass on Save Me (Tragedy). This reallly saved me on save me, my stamina just couldn't handle the constant bursts for 10 minutes and would end up dropping acc really hard on the last section, now i can go through it fine. the tapping light option really helped like ive practiced it for a week now and i before this week i had a hard time hitting the start of bluenation speed up version and now its just alot easier cuz now i can ss it
