  • Whaaaat...? Well, didn't I get lucky on this busy school holiday day! The sun was out, the water was blue, and the shells kept coming my way! I loved the cowries (oh gosh, so many nice ones this time) and the stunning murex! That was such a surprise, but the biggest surprise might have been those wonderfully large and numerous Violet Sea Snails... wow!!
    Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

    I didn't even realise that Point Cartwright and the surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can check out his videos here:

      G'day Lisa 👋🏻🐚 The purple colour is so vivid and beautiful 💜🐌 they get that colour from feeding off of the poison in the jellyfish they travel with... but the jellyfish are blue, so I do wonder how they become that brilliant purple instead 🤣 maybe without the poison,they're originally a red colour?? I'm just making stuff up now! Thank for watching 🥰

      G'day Jan 👋🏻💖 Oh my goodness, you know, I never actually think to count how many different cowrie species I find?? Nine sounds like a lot; that's nearly a quarter of the total number of cowrie species I've ever found here 🤩 (I think I've found about 40 different ones from this beach). The Violet Sea Snails were absolutely crazy today; they're usually a rare sight... and they snails that wash up here and never usually this big! Previously, I'd only found ones that were much smaller 🐌💜 I felt spoiled today, but also, I feel like I really had to "work" for them to cleaned them out before taking them home 🤣 Thank you so much for watching this big adventure today 🥰

The Violet Sea Snails were the biggest surprise; I've never seen them wash ashore in this number or this size; it was really exciting and I made sure to spend an extra 30 minutes to collect them all from this side of the beach 🏖️🤣 Thank you so much for watching 🥰 all the love back to you and the kitties 😻

    Good morning, Maddie
    Wow, so many beautiful shells. I am going to start with my 1st ones. At least, I think they all are my 1sts . The rams horn( I think I might of seen them once), DE le Beches cockle, whitish dog whelke (I may have seen them, but it has been a long time), tweed murex, dwarf violet snails. They are just too cute. The violet sea snails were great sizes today. The big boy was beautiful. I like the limpits. It is always nice to learn something new about any shell. The facts about the limpits is just amazing. The snake heads, Arabian, top shell, music cone, crowned cone, embossed venus, bloched nerite, mini sand dollars, mulberry whelke, S. trumpets, cat cowrie, the brown- lined paper bubble shells, stripped-mouth periwinkle were so nice. I enjoy each and every single shell. The murex is very nice along with all the purple ones you found today. I can never find a favorite. You may have started out slow finding shells but Wow you found so many beautiful and amazing shells today. Thank you so very much for sharing another wonderful shelling adventure. I am so greatful for your videos. They make me relax and enjoy your videos. You really help make my days better. Each and every video. I hope you have a wonderful day Maddie 😊 Thank you😊

      G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 Oh my, I nearly missed your comment here! The Ram's Horn was indeed a shell that I had only shown once before a long while ago; they rarely wash up here, so I have been in heaven lately with so many of them! The De la Beche's Cockle is one that I found once before, but it must have been last year perhaps? It was a long time ago; I almost never seen them, so I guess it's a rare bivalve here at this beach? Hehehe, I'm glad that you liked my limpet fact; I nearly couldn't believe it myself, it just seemed so bizarre! Oh my goodness, you do have those names memorised!! There was just so many amazing ones to uncover today. The Paper Bubbles were a highlight, but oh yes, I'm glad that you liked the Murex and Violet Sea Snails too! Thank you so much for coming long to enjoy a very big shelling adventure 🥰

    My go-to "goopy guy" removal tool will always be ants. Left out a couple pink mouth murex and glass sponges and forget them. About a year later I found them covered up by weeds, and they were completely cleaned out and smell free. Liked the Haustellum tweedianum. Yes, I looked it up. Thought the siphonal canal would be longer, but no, it's just right. Was blown away by the violet snails. Never saw them so big and perfect. Can't ignore the brown lined bubbles and the rams horns. Think I'll buy a rams horn and display it next to my chambered nautilus. Most impressive shelling day - how exciting!
    !

    • @SandCoffeeRocks
      @SandCoffeeRocks  Před 10 měsíci

      G'day Cathy 👋🏻🏖️ Ants are certainly an option... though, personally, they take too long for my liking!! Also, I did try doing that once with another brown-lined paper bubble, and I come back to it some weeks later, but even though it was mostly in the shade, the colours/patterns on it had faded dramatically, so I hesitate to do this again for small and thin shells. A Pink Mouth Murex would have been perfect for it, but I haven't heard of glass sponges before, I will need to look them up! Oh wow, you googled the Haustellum tweedianum? Many others in that genus have a longer siphon, but yes, this one is small... although I must say, the one I got this time might have lost a third or half inch off of the end of it? I think my other rough ones from Hervey Bay had more of a siphon still on them. Anyway, I am still super happy with it! The little Ram's Horns are absolutely lovely; though much smaller than your Nautilus, the Ram's Horns are only about an inch in diameter. I hope you find some for your collection! Thank you so much for watching this long and exciting adventure ❤

    • @SandCoffeeRocks

      G'day Mary 👋🏻💖 It certainly was a day filled with surprises 🤩 Ahh, I was a bit worried at the start, but the tide was still high, so I had plenty of time to keep looking for fun shells to find 🤗 it might not seem like it in the videos, but each episode is about three hours of shell hunting... though this time I probably spend another half and hour searching for and collecting every single Violet Sea Snail from that side of the beach 🏖️ worth it!! I have an itch to look for even more on the open side of the beach... but I think I have enough for now!! Also, yes, they float on top of the water with a "bubble raft" which is the snails foot. That's why they floated all the way up to the high wrackline this time, and stayed up there hidden from shell collectors looking for shells in the rock pools 🤔 it's also how I knew they were deceased (other than their funky smell and dripping fluids); they no longer had their bubble raft at that point. And the ants were getting to them. Yep, sorry Mary, this turned a bit more icky than I intended!! Thanks for watching 🥰

    Hi Maddie!! Great shelling!!!! I like to soak the Violet Snails in water and Nappy San in an empty Nappy San bottle for a couple of days/weeks. It's gross but they clean up nicely and don't smell after I rinse them. I also do this with sea urchins that still have smelly stuff and spines. Xx🩵🐚🌊

      G'day Helen 👋🏻🏖️ Oh that's a good idea; a few people are suggested using the Oxy-action type of stuff for sea urchins too... uhh, does it, like, dissolve all of their fleshy bits somehow! I seriously wonder how it works 😅 all the little purple sea snails need a clean out, but I was lucky enough to get everything out of the big ones with my stick and pull technique. I will definitely try Nappy San on a few of the urchins to see how they go before committing toy big one from Burrum Heads... they certainly aren't getting any better where I left them,so I need to do something soon 🤣 Thank you so much for the advice, and for watching 🥰
