      He wasn't really the Lead actor but rather the main character being led through the story. Boogie NIghts was more of a tapestry of 70s/80s Americana indulgence seen thru the eyes of a naive dreamer.

      To me it was just Mark avoiding to admit that he gave no shit about solving the murder case.
      They only wants to find the "microprocessass".
      Later with Leo, they admit it. They have enough proofs to arrest Costello for a constellation of felonies.
      Leo witnessed tons of crimes being committed and asks Martin Sheen and Mark Wahlberg why they aren't doing anything to arrest Costello. They say that they're building a case.
      That's bullshit. They just want to find what was stolen from the government.

He fired the weapon as an exercise perhaps or he may have been playing around with it to see how he was going to use when the scene start. But what he didn't know was that the gun was fully loaded with real bullets. This was an accident but still. He should have been more mindful about it by double checking the gun. So he deserves to go to jail still.

    You can hate Dignam and his attitude sometimes for how he puts people on the spot, but man knew how to do his job and most of all he was very loyal and even if he had a callous attitude towards billy there is no doubt that he ensured the safety of his men at all cost even avenging their deaths. So mad respect to this character!

      @@Selrisitai I disagree, as do others apparently. Wahlberg is genuinely entertaining, but he's like Bruce Willis. He very rarely plays roles where he behaves like somebody other than himself. He can be kind, but we love it when mostly when he he's in dangerous fight situations, an when he does rambling, never-misses-a-beat, rage dialogue.

      He was in between roles between Invincible(where it was long)and argued back and forth with Scorcese. He was supposed to be on the movie set for two weeks. It lasted way longer. He was a not a happy camper.
