This movie goes overboard with the profanity. I remember my former employer telling me that people who curse are unprofessional. I wish she could tell these guys the same thing. I would love to see their reactions.
@@steelhere5519 I don't think these guys are the sort of people that would be cut very deep by someone calling them unprofessional, especially in such a roundabout way.

What would make this movie better is if the actors playing the Chinese gangsters could actually fucking speak Chinese...fuck me... Apparently in the entire continental USA, they couldn't find a single Chinese that could speak Cantonese properly. It's as if the casting crew just went 'Welb, this motherfucker got rice eyes, oh look, them motherfuckers over there got them too'. Ok, good enough since none of us white motherfuckers know what they eat or talking neither'. And that was it, that's how they all got hired.
@@raulxavier1271 agree totally, it seems really ignorant and lazy to not even ask a canto guy if they sound fine. why not have him at the casting session???
This movie has the best fucking one liners, witty comebacks and serious humor... if that makes sense lol. Brilliant movie with fucking brilliant actors
I agree with you that trying to stay focused on work with this dude as your boss.... it'd be tough not to wind him up just for the reaction lol. I gotta ask though, when did Ellerby have a racist moment? Also, i watch these clips a bit and racism seems a consistent topic in most threads. The narration and voice over in the opening scene is a prime example. I am a big fan of the movie for a number of reasons. The cast, plot, dialog, location and sets, a wide variety of characters and a great director. Ellerby reminds me of 2 bosses I had. Hardworking, passionate about his job and funny as hell.
I love the part when the Chinese ganster tell him, he wants to know the truth! And Costello yelling YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!! oh wait a minute.... 😓
Always thought it was funny that Wahlberg says "you must be the other guy" and then did a cop movie called "the others guys" anyone know if this is a coincidence or not?
Do you know what does it mean when he says "the other guy"? I'm a foreigner and i find this really cool, and I want to mention it in my translation homework.
Đông Hải Vũ Nguyễn he’s just referring to him as being a nobody, he’s the main man, the one who does his job. The other dude, he’s just some “other guy”. Basically anybody
T McDowell being ‘just a movie’ is a poor excuse for something that’s deeply grounded in realism. For it to then suddenly be grammatically inaccurate, is a little underwhelming.. It’s almost as if they’re taking the piss out of the accent. I didn’t think Scorsese would allow this, but... I am wrong
Whats interesting about this scene is the fact that Costello was an informant for the FEDs the whole time. He never gave the Chinese the real chips at all. He turned over fakes to them. As later in the movie, the police Captain asks him what he did with the real ones. Costello probably turned them over to the FEDs in exchange for being able to continue operating as he was. But he also got to keep the money from the deal. As its also mentioned later that the Chinese buyers were busted later trying to leave the state by the regular police.
bit of over-analysis here. wahlberg was brilliant in this, as well as a bunch of other things. he's indeed turned into a great actor, considering he use to do underwear modelling to the best of my recollection.
the sunglasses and lighting make frank's eyes look beady and small and hollow, colorless. This was a directorial decision, because it makes frank appear to be a ghoul, something sinister. He is already departed in a way.
"I'm the guy who does his job,you must be the other guy" best line
Would be awesome to have Dignam say that to Mark Wahlherg as one of The Other Guys

The only thing that would make this movie better is if the Chinese gangsters were all played by actors from Infernal Affairs.
At least the Cantonese would've been legit. The American born Chinese dude here did speak it semi decently though.
