  • Test on the country road with the BMW S 1000 RR and the BMW S 1000 XR. How comfortable is the RR? How fast is the XR? Is the XR the clear number 1 or can the super sports bike surprise? NastyNils rides at de motorbikes in an intensive test. Unfortunately, the speed trap in the photo curve was also overlooked. It will be exciting!

Thanks for the review in English. More on those. Please ; -)
And also thanks for the in-depth insight with no wasted time on "no need" BS information.
I have the XR 2020 model. I'm 1,71m and have 71kg. Ride and use the bike almost every day. In city traffic and winding mountain roads on weekends. Where I have an aggreesive driving posture. With tours of more than 6 hours.
Pros: Knees and leg with good wind protection on highway. For city use it has a smooth engine, good up right position and a "volume", even with paniers, that allows easy filtering on traffic. On mountain road's it allows inclination angles of at least 51⁰ without scratching. The electronic suspension and traction control works flawless. Feels nimble. Easy to define the trajectories just using the eyes. Brakes are powerful but not intrusive. No scares from their intensive or strong use. In a full power braking situation the overall composure is highly maintained. Giving huge confidence.
Cons: On mountain road's seems to have much less torque and power than it has on specs. Unless you downshift it can take ages to push forward. Come on, this is a sportive bike... But on a more relaxed riding posture you can do almost everything on 5th or 6th gear. Without any complain. The sound exhaust looks like a scooter! It doesn't get much better with akrapovic. The use of automatic shift gear could be rough. Mainly for downshifting. It's always a problem to find the neutral. Which is a very very annoying problem in traffic lights. Hand protection could be better. Doesn't protect properly the front arms from wind. For my ergonomics will need to buy raisers to avoid, in city, the need for a so much up front driving. In mountain road's even a not so used set of tires somehow degrades the composure of the bike. Even with the right pressure you have a downgrading in the way you set your trajectories, insertion in curves and inclination. Otherwise excellent when the tires are new. It needs an extra effort to somehow force the bike... Besides the OEM I used 2 sets of Metzeler 01 SE. The TFT interface it's easy and intuitive to use but should be much more appealing. In design and functionality. So many good examples out there. Even with touchscreens. For instance the Africa twin. The possibility for the driver to set bypasses for those more used function would be greatly appreciated. That's firmware update depending of bmw will. These days were electronics have a central role, a good TFT, with a friendly IU, is key. Which, for this benchmark price, it's not the case here. The motorrad app for orientation works pretty well but uses all the screen.
Had problems with the SOS emergency button connection to satellite. The repair of that glitch took ages. As an awkward drain from battery. That has been changed twice!!!... No final factory solution for it, yet...
In city use bike gets very hot even with external temperatures at just 21⁰C. The hot isn't deflected from legs.
For this tag price, it's unforgivable that XR doesn't have automatic keyless paniers. Which can be very useful mainly for a city use. When I compared with other BMW models that has it I find it disrespectful. After all this is also a touring bike and is in the same price range.
Overall: A very good and smooth bike even for everyday use. Not as sportive punchy as supposedly should be. But capable for use in a wide spectrum of situations. Which is a plus. Even in dusty roads. Good ergonomics. Like that seat. And after a learning curve you can use it in city as it were a sheep, or as a hungry wolf at winding mountain road's. Which amazes me. Gas consumption in city is around 6,3 liter's. Open road's 5,8. Committed driving at winding roads 6,1.
"Loving" it more each day. Hope this helps.

Great review! Thanks for the very technical review.. I have 2017 rr and 2016 xr. Love them both. Tried the 2021 xr and really did not like the drive out or corners or from a stop. The newer Xr really comes alive after 7000 rmp, but gutless until then. I would guess it is an emissions requirement. It definately stopped me from updating. I final on 4 hour rides the rr is quite comfortable but for longer rides the xr is the way to go

    • @ThaSideWeed
      @ThaSideWeed Před 2 lety +1

Um, dunno about you but my gen 1 is gutless at low revs with Brentuning. Stock you turn the throttle and nothing happens until you're at least in Dynamic.
Also for me, ESA sucks on the gen 1 XR comfort wise. The only thing it does well is offer stability on very aggressive trailbraking. Otherwise unstable at high speed and too harsh, and much too stiff at low speed, for a 85 kg rider with gear.
Also stock M/C on the XR isn't very good if you want progressiveness. Quickshifter sucks at anything below 7-ish k. Reset it like 8 times. Standard rearset makes quickshifter perform worse.
I've addressed all of these and the bike rides like a dream now, but it's pretty underwhelming in stock form if you actually try to push it.

Really super to have a video in English from your channel!!! Having said that, wouldn't be more logical to compare the naked S1000R vs the XR? The RR is sexy but not very logical if you're traveling from time to time...I think in that use case the R would be much more appealing. I have a naked sport-touring bike with bags for traveling and have wondered how much better would a taller bike like the XR be. Keep posting in English, I always follow your channel but it's pretty difficult to understand with my rusty German, specially with those heavy accents some of the guys on your team have 😂😂👍👍

I picked up a 2021 s1000xr last year and I'm really enjoying it. I'm 6 foot 4 so the ergonomics work really good on the XR . The stock windscreen is garbage on the XR and mine had the sport size which is a joke. I'm waiting on the tall one to come which should help allot.
Otherwise this bike should be a great vehicle for the next 6 or 8 years.

I knew after the first minute of the video it was going to be bias against the xr... I have a 21 xr and I love hunting power rangers on sports bikes . On a twsity road they haven't got a chance against anything with straight bars . This is why you see guys on fireblades getting tortured by supermotos .

03:28 What?!? How can it be that on the S1000XR the footpegs are already scratching at 45º! Mine (exactly the same one tested here) start scratching only at 52º and I weight almost 90 kg fully equipped! And that's with the OEM tyres (Roadtec 01) on a nice and quiet stretch of road.
Were you testing a lowered suspension version? I can't think of any other explanation for scratching at 45º.
