    CWB testing is a little different. We do a 6" weld plate. 3/4" of the start of the plate and end of plate are disregarded. However going up the plate coupon 1 and 3 are root bend coupons and coupon 2 In the very middle is a face bend but it's required you do a start & stop in the middle so your restarts are also tested.

    • @Welddotcom
      @Welddotcom  Před měsícem

      some have charts to refrence, even older ones may have them online somewhere. if not im going by puddle recognition, and sound mostly. doesn't matter what the machine says if the puddle is doing all the talking,

  • @luisestevez4854
    @luisestevez4854 Před měsícem

    Qiestion, with a 1/4" gap or 3/16" between plates how come you dont weld the two plates to the backing plate when you do the root pass? And if you do, how do you remove the backing plate after you cut the two strips for the bending test? I thought the backing plate was just to secure the two plates for welding but then it stayed after capping and even there when you cut it in the machine. Excuse my ignorance.

    • @Welddotcom
      @Welddotcom  Před měsícem

      it is most defiantly welded solid. all 3 members become 1 in the root pass. the backing strap acts as a bridge between the two so you can weld on it with ease compared to an open root. you can remove the strap for bend testing with a band saw like jason did or even arc gouge it off. hell if you got the time you can grind the whole thing off. In the field a backing strap will not be removed after welding.

  • @Neemification
    @Neemification Před měsícem

    With backing strip, how can you check root penetration?

    • @Welddotcom
      @Welddotcom  Před měsícem

      During the bend test. After you remove the strap, even before prep youll be able to see a line or not, that says you got the penetration. All 3 members should become 1 in the weld zone. You cant see the back side of the root during the test, however you can see some dark blemishes on the steel, darker the mark, more pen youre getting in that strap.

      Correct, for that one specific cert. if the job requires the same test with 7018, thats a different cert. Youll have to look up Jasons classes, and as an added comment, the place that teaches you, cannot certify you.

  • @barryjones7025
    @barryjones7025 Před měsícem

    Just remember them certs dont mean nothing. Boss will just look at them and be like ok.... i don't care how many certs you have. You need to pass all our made up tests to work on the actual product which will be sink or swim. Most places give you 2 or 3 tries. Ut tests are common. Bend test is cheapest other than visual inspection. Xray little more pricey but depends what you'll be tested on depending on the type of work your gonna be up against. Some places you can use grinders, you should at least be able to if you need to do some cleaning but wire wheel could work. Cover passes are the toughest 1/8 inch reinforcement is all your aloud. Any mire more than that, you might be grinding that out and redoing the cover or they say you failed all because cover pass was over the tolerance.

    • @Welddotcom
      @Welddotcom  Před měsícem

      youre right, Welding Certs are typically give and take. by that i mean you Get a cert when you get the job and they pull them when you leave. Almost every job requires a weld test to a WPS wether its AWS or not, likely youll have to test wether you carried the exact cert or not.
      It could however get you further in line on the application process and even in some cases may grant you to weld and skip the test. Hell some jobs (smaller shops) dont even test to any procedure. They maybe really excited to find an applicant with the cert that pertains to their work.
      But like you said.. its all circumstantial

  • @fbi805
    @fbi805 Před 24 dny

    LMFAO you can have all the certs you want, if you can't pass a weld test you aren't getting the job. With all that said. As veteran with all kinds of ASE and AWS as well as airframe certification with 10 years of experience. I was literally told by every company that I applied to, that I was over qualified. So I started my own company, I now have 2 contracts with SpaceX to design and build parts for them while those other companies are digging at the bottom of the barrel to get jobs just to stay open.
