  • #catl the world's largest battery manufacturer and supplier of BMW, Mercedes, and #Tesla, has introduced a new #LFP super battery - the #catlshenxingbattery
The new #catlbattery is said to recharge 80% of its capacity in just 10 minutes and could HUGE #teslanews for the #teslamodel3 and #teslamodely in 2024.
The #newlfpbattery would make charging almost as fast as refueling a combustion car and completely change the realm for #electricvehicles . And the best thing is, this isn't just another laboratory breakthrough from an unknown startup. catl is a long-term battery supplier of the biggest names in the Industry, and the #newbattery will hit the market in 2024!
However, the way this technological breakthrough was achieved might surprise you!
It's not through new battery chemistry but a unique improvement to the well-known and proven LFP Technology. The battery was introduced under the slogan "LFP Battery Redefined," aiming to eliminate some significant concerns about charging and safety.
#lithiumironphosphate cells have already gained massive popularity for EVs. Their significantly lower cost, increased durability, and safety made them an attractive choice for informed buyers and major automakers worldwide. Compared to other batteries, their fire-resistant properties make LFP cells an excellent option. By CATL most recent upgrade, the company aims to eliminate some major concerns about LFP batteries to make EVs a viable and cost-effective alternative eventually.
But what does it mean for Tesla as the biggest client of C.A.T.L.? How does it compare to other batteries? And which cars will be delivered with these new cells in 2024?

I do but they have to be improved before i buy one. I need a large full size luxury automobile which tesla dosent even make, one that can charge, (fully charge) as fast as it takes to fully fuel. It doesn't have to be a range of 640 miles like the Chinese made Zeekr EV ,(would be nice) but, atleast 500 miles of range. Instead of the short and shitty range they currently provide. Do this, Now we're talkin!!! Now you have a reason to boast the EV. Till then I'll keep my large full size luxurious Jaguar XJl which i fully fuel up once, (once a month) at 3 to 5 minutes costing me between 55 and 65 bucks which is dirt money in today's economy. More than a pleasure to drive 570 miles of range and paid off at 41K. I'll be watching out for the next generation EV with the hopes that these fine qualities and improvements have been applied.....

To be able to charge a battery at 4 times the capacity (4C) is an amazing achievement and the fact that you can get up to 10,000 cycles is just as amazing!
The challenge now is building the charging stations with enough power so that they can charge 8 electric vehicles at the same time in 15 minutes or in 10 minutes up to 80%. I am using 8 vehicles at the same time because most gas stations have at least 8 pumps and during peak times you are still waiting in line for a free pump.
400 KW of power to charge a 100 KW-Hr battery in 15 minutes or even 10 minutes up to 80% is a massive amount of power. Enough power for about 130 homes or a large 15 story condo building with 250 condo units. So to charge 8 vehicles at the same time, 3.2 MW of capacity will be required. That is on the scale of a large industrial manufacturing facility.
The ability to deliver that kind of power will depend on the capacity of existing power system’s ability to generate, transmit and distribute it to the charging stations and will also require a significant amount of electrical equipment including transformers at the charging stations. Of course, upgrading the electrical power system is always possible but, the costs will be significant. Generating the power locally at the charging stations would also be an option, but this too comes at a significant cost regardless if it wind, solar or from traditional sources such as natural gas or perhaps nuclear.

That would be nice indeed. However I doubt that such a high capacity battery would be feasible with LFP technology for now, even with the new QILIN battery. The current Model Y LFP battery tops out at 60kWh due to its higher volume compared to similar NMC batteries. According to the video, the QILIN battery improves volume utilization efficiency from Teslas 63% up to 72%, which would allow for 14.3% more energy stored within the same volume. This would allow for a 68.5kWh battery in a new Model Y. For it to get any bigger, there would have to be unused volume for the battery in the current LFP Model Y (which of course might be the case, I don't know).

The rate of improvement in EV technology since the first real production models is incredible. (like the 24KWh Nissan Leaf in 2010).
They've gone from 85 mile range "Shopping cars" to (soon to be) 500 mile range ultra-performance cars in 14 years.
The next 14 years will probably see a shift to cheap/abundant Sodium based cells and 500-600 mile ranges being fairly standard.
There's only one downside really. It's difficult to know when to trade in my 30kwh LEAF because anything I buy instead could look pretty dated, technology wise, in 5 years.

No, battery density is still critical, just that it is the overall raw energy density and power density per unit cost of the battery tech being used.
Not the kinetic (mass/weight) or volumetric (cubic meters) energy which is far more important for transport or mobile tech device use cases.
So as long as the energy density is decent and the cost is low they can just expand and expand as they can afford it, with no care for weight or volume as long as they own a lot of land to place it on.

I only need 10mins for my sexbot 🤣

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx Před 3 měsíci +1

      Why 30 minutes?
It depends entirely on what you mean by domestic robot in terms of use case.
It could mean anything from basic cleaning duties to cooking to conversational companionship to full blown sex to medical assistance for the elderly to childcare.
Once domestic robots can do all of those things it will make human romantic/spousal partners pretty redundant outside of the realms of having children.
I think that in the area of basic companionship and medical assistance that domestic robots could be revolutionary for the elderly because no national healthcare system can possibly afford a nurse full time for every individual who can no longer do daily tasks easily or spends days/weeks/months without seeing another soul.
Another point is that while communal schooling could be argued to be essential for children to learn basic social skills as early as possible, it could be possible in the future with advanced domestic robots to take a role as artificial governesses so that children can spend more time at and around their home and less in school during their childhood without constant supervision from working parents.
Domestic robotics have the potential to dramatically change so much of what we view to be the modern living standard for all age groups.
Also in some cases you would expect a robot to be able to do its work while either plugged in to the power or constantly on charge through some sort of inductive array in the floor and/or furniture like in the film Ex Machina.

LFP is cheaper because its energy density is around 160Wh/kg comparing to Li-ion NMC at around 240~290Wh/kg atm. LFP is also facing another challenge as Sodium ion battery @160kW/kg, also manufactured by CATL, is in production. Sodium, or salt, is a lot more abundant comparing to Lithium, so I am really not sure about the future of LFP batteries. If they have similar energy density, I don't know why we would go for the more expensive option.
Tesla model Y SR RWD which shipped recently is using LFP as far as I know. It is sort of like a testing model to see how the market is going to response to LFP cars.
BTW, with Amprius' Li-ion Silicon Anode battery, QuantumScape's Li-Metal anode solid state battery and the CATL condensed battery all at around 500Wh/kg, LFP and Sodium ion batteries can only aim for the cheaper car market. That is why it is all Chinese cars taking part in the new LFP batteries try out right now.
    edit: abundant

The funny thing about this "green" tech is this. It's not recyclable. Solar panels can't be recycled, and these lithium ion batteries are really hard to separate the elements. If we can get a battery that has near zero degradation and is super cheap on the materials side with easy recycling. Then, ev adoption would be quicker. But, you still have a massive problem. The enery grid. You would have to expand the grid maybe 5 times (idk for sure) just to keep up with the energy demand.

    • @mnomadvfx
      @mnomadvfx Před 3 měsíci

      Define freezing.
Even the best solid state battery cells can't operate at the temperatures found in the northern most areas of Siberia or other places in the Arctic circle - let alone the likes of McMurdo station in Antarctica.
While an EV in transit can benefit from thermal inefficiencies of ionic transport in the battery cells, when they are not in transit they would need to be kept at -20°C at a minimum for solid state cells.
Cells that can handle lower temperatures (lower than -30°C) are in development, but they could very well take decades longer to come to fruition on the market, and would likely suffer from lower densities anyway.
The ideal 'battery' technology to cope with cold weather would seem to be advanced capacitors as they do not rely on ionic transport which suffers directly from cold temperatures.
