- Nikolas Cruz, described as a loner by a former classmate, had once been expelled from a Parkland, Florida, high school for disciplinary reasons.
On Wednesday, the 19-year-old former student returned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and is suspected of gunning down at least 17 people, in a massacre that has now become one of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz's digital profile contained what he called "very, very disturbing" content.
He had a variety of gun and violence-related postings on social media sites.

A lot of time that can actually lead to something called Survivors Guilt. Its the "why did they die but not me" and is especially strong if people you knew or loved were killed in the incident. Car crashes, plane crashes, shootings like this or Pulse of Vegas...even if a serial killer singled out a friend when you were closer to the killer or something. It can be pretty rough, almost as traumatic as the trauma itself....almost.

F.J it’s really easy to get mental health here in Houston. Not sure what other hospitals or states do. But if you walk yourself into my ER and say you depressed/suicidal/homicidal/ we first do an assessment. And if you are a danger to yourself or others you cannot leave the ER. A judge signs a detaining warrant that you cannot leave. You stay there with a 1:1 nurse until we find you a bed at a mental health hospital. Insurance or not. So. It’s easy. You just have to want the help and know where to get it.

I remember growing up going through elementary, middle and highschool and I never had to worry a day at all about this kind of thing. We were completely safe.
Things have changed a lot since then and it's worrysome. I'm glad some parents I know that have kids haven't had to go through this and I hope they never do cause their kids are precious and I'd be sad if something bad were to happen to them.

I don't know anything about gun except from games, but I know handgun will have maximum of 14 bullets and AR will have about 30 bullets. However, bombs can do MUCH worse than both a knife AND a gun. My point is this: if someone strongly intends to do harm and gun are not available to use, they will surely find some other way of inflicting harm. Trying to get rid of guns is futile in stopping violence. And although I do see your line of reasoning pertaining to ammunition capacity of different guns, I'm afraid I have to correct you. A handgun's capacity depends on the type and size of magazine it uses. And while yes, most handguns do have average capacities of around 7-14 rounds, a lot of handgun models can also use "high-capacity" magazines which can store a lot more than that. AR's can also have smaller magazines of only 10-20 rounds, as well.
Again, I do agree with your argument that there is fear and dysfunction amongst our society, but taking away guns won't quell that. It would be overly naive to assume such a thing.

Handguns are concealable. Most rifles aren't. And an "assault style" weapon is semi-auto just like most pistols. Hence the purchasing age difference
