That fake snow was nothing like real snow. I bet proper packed snow would have gone farther, but probably better with your arm still.
Tarras from Crazy Russian Hacker tried it out with real snow and it went pretty far. He did find that the snowballs he packed by hand versus using the snowball maker attachment went farther.
