2019 Chevrolet Blazer - Review & Road Test

- With a name that harkens back to rugged Blazers of yore, the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer forges…er…blazes its own path; though that path probably won’t involve unpaved roads. Crafted for urban and suburban use, the latest Blazer rides and steers in satisfying fashion while treating occupants to a roomy, comfortable, tech-filled cabin. Add daring style and you’ve got an SUV that is, as the kids say, “lit”. Heck, even Kelley Blue Book’s Micah Muzio likes the new Chevy Blazer. Follow along to hear why.

If I’m being quite honest, I really like how it looks. Looks so much nicer than the Murano, Edge, and Passport.
No
It doesn’t look as good as Murano but it is good looking.
I'm a Ford Edge guy but this not bad. So many look the same.
@@kanishkthirumala736 was thinking about getting a Murano if my Edge falls through.
Bro what edges are horrendous looking
I've never heard Micah talk so positive about a chevy
J.R Cody Then you didn’t hear his review on the Impala
@@gene978 I'll have to check that one out
Ain’t that the truth!
@@gene978 And also the Cruze
J.R Cody that’s not true. The impala wins best large car from KBB literally every year.
Kinda looks like if they made a camaro into an suv
Landon Williams wow fr ! lol
I like it
I was gonna say!
I thought the same. It's a handsome SUV.
Woah, really? I didn't realize at all! Thanks for pointing it out!
My parents drove a '98 Chevy Blazer when I was a kid. Tough little SUV. My Dad still has it in the garage to this day with over 200,000 miles on it.
If I ever have kids, I'm definitely investing in this newer Blazer
lol at 1:49 when you’re full throttle and the prius zooms by.
Haha I noticed that too 😂😂😂
Chevy Blazer engineer Larry Milhalko says in the TFL review the RS has Twin Clutch AWD system that sends up to 60% of torque to the rear and also torque vectors the differential left and right.
MAN, this 2019 camaro looks cool! Chevy really going outside the box with this design
Issue is, the real Camaro feels as if it got uglier in my opinion.
Idk why, no matter how many premium materials chevy uses, their interiors still look cheap as hell
|〉 TARIQ k. 〈| yes, I feel the same way...
Cause the color they used are blend buttons are cheap looking and steering wheels looks too big and skinny infotainment systems is a bit small
Fr
They use a lot of grey, instead of black. I think it looks great.
I think it's the chrome they use it looks cheap and old like the chrome from my 03 Nissan. They should have used a
Brushed or a matte aluminum
I wish more Chevys could have interiors like this
Camaro interior is also very similar lol
@@davecabansay8965 I know but some of their interiors aren't amazing and this is fairly simple and in my opinion it looks great with the added bonus of being easy to use
@@JRCody-ds3ec That's true. I agree 100%
I really like my Camaro RS interior. The buttons on an issue once you set the climate control. The quality of the materials is very good. And I like the aesthetic.
Exactly. Chevy's are beautiful, made out of good materials, but GM is known for bad engines I am unsure if that has changed at all in the past couple of years but my Buick Enclave has had so many timing belt issues it isnt funny.
Just bought an RS model last week and I love it! Being that my fiancees 2018 Traverse RS is awesome next to it, ots pretty cool to look at in the driveway.. Im impressed by the room it has for my 9 year old and our new yorkie.
No complaints my way. Good segment KBB! #salutefromOhio
Our local dealer in Indiana had a red RS that just sold the other day. It is sharp looking!
I have the Premier model in black and I love it as well.
Is the pricing outrageous?
I have had mine for one month and I love mine. Not only does it drive beautifully it is also very attractive.
The floating roof design is everywhere nowadays.
And...I hate it. Lol
@@JustChillingNahhhhMean it Ugly
@@MyLife-so1jl Some trends I wonder...who likes it, but they sell so...😬
Cheaper to build that way. Splits the roof from the body and allows them to manufacture it separately. Saves them money.
@@nkyryry and to customize it easier
If it's made in mexico it should be $25000 max reflecting the lower labour and production costs
Gm is getting Greedy..crap parts suppliers cost them big of the Equinox/Terrain 2010-2017 2.8 motors.. so now they are going to Mexico to recuperate those losses

And don't worry if you get t-boned, it already came with a big dent there right from the factory.
OOOOOOoooooOOOOO
Lol
Believe it or not, that is functional!
That's the Chevy way
It would look better after an accident anyways.
Excellent review Micah 😄. I only recently learned that Chevy was bringing back this nameplate, and I simply enjoy your reviews. At first I thought it was a hoax that were bringing back the Blazer name. Awesome that you added that plug about KBB, I actually turned to KBB reviews when I was considering buying a used 1999 Nissan Maxima GLE for $800 back in 2016, and I took ownership of the Maxima January 2017. I turned to KBB reviews again when I was pursuing a 2014 VW Jetta. So yeah KBB is my go to. You're great Micah.
Most beautiful midsize suv
How many more cross overs does the world really need?
6.387 more
You're going to see a lot more to come. People can keep complaining about crossovers, but it's like complaining about why Amazon got so big. The market makes it so.
Society today needs it
As many as people continue to buy.
Body on frame is basically for trucks these days. (Which even some of those still aren’t body-on-frame... Ridgeline)
Hyundai Santa Fe and Chevy Blazer: siblings!
Well gm started this look first with.
Aztek, then Jeep and Hyundai continued it.
@floyd watt Agreed.
Gm didn't hold his ground, Hyundai made this look appealing with their touches and now Gm back at it.
At times I wonder if GM has any objective or future.
Totally
Reinaldo Nascimento Not in price tho 🤷🏽♂️
Been watching for years. Love these videos
OMG, non-defeatable Start/Stop, that's a deal breaker!
It's an on option on the MY20 Blazer.
zxxyz you can barely feel it. it’s one of the best in the business.
Yashua Fradkin why would i want to waste fuel when i don’t need it? that’s just my take on it people have different opinions but personally i like it.
@@MatthewShaw-ui6dw Every car with start/stop is going to be junk before it's 10 years old. The excessive wear created by stopping and restarting an engine 100's of times per day for years is guaranteed to cause premature internal failure. This "fuel saving" technology is frankly just a gimmick, and will shorten lifespans of any car using it dramatically.
Why can't GM put in a normal looking steering wheel and headrest? I like the car but not being able to turn off auto start/stop is just dumb and you may save some money on gas but in the long run, certain parts of the engine will fail faster and cost you a lot more.
The pricing kills it...not competitive at all
Jason Harris priced similarly to the Ford Edge
@@zachg9065 so? The Hyundai Santa Fe is a waayy better value.
N96ZG not really at all
@@USA____ you have numbers to back up your claim or just mere conjecture...
Jason Harris well they may be priced similar but the features and power are not comparable. The base engine is much more powerful than the blazers. The upgraded engine in the edge is also much faster than the one of the blazer. Paying 50k for a Chevy blazer with its small size and low power is a joke. The edge st starts at 43k with many great features. The blazer really just lacks with things like lane centering and other standard safety features.
Nice job Micha, I bought one of these, love your fly content.
R.I.P the real Blazer.
True
Well, it died long long long time ago...
WtrDogg20 yeah most of these CZcams commenters weren’t even born when the original K5 died.
Alan Bowers most CZcams commenters in here do not have a driving licence..
yes this is from BAOJUN (GM CHINA BRAND)
Nope. Call it whatever you want but that ain't a Blazer
Clazer
Neither the Pathfinder, nor the Explorer... Dude, get it over, that is what the SUV market wants nowadays...
@@wtrdogg20 your right! I don't hear people crying over the explorer...
GY Chevy Glazer! Nah, I still prefer Blazer.
Allow me to introduce you to the winning team. Blaze, laser, blazer
Gm has always been great at v6 and v8 powerplants. I’d go for the v6 here. I don’t think reliability is an issue there
while I was waiting at my Chevy dealer show room for my vehicle. I did check out the Blazer. It was nice in my opinion. Decent mileage for the I4 model. But I do agree with being tall the controls for ventilation buttons were half blocked by that trim work. Could be something Chevy might look into next model year.
The pricing if this thing is bonkers lol. The fact that it goes up to 50k is insane. Lol
They actually sell a Chevrolet trailblazer in foreign markets which is a rugged off-roader. It's also rebadged as an Isuzu and Holden
You forgot to mention the Santa Fe as a competitor to those midsize crossovers
He didn’t forget he just didn’t want to mention 12 different vehicles
Wow a Chevy with a decent interior, exterior and chassis/powertrain I'm actually impressed. Give us a nice hybrid and I'm sold
Decent? It has a cheap nasty interior.
Why are they still not putting an “off” mode/option for that auto start/stop system? That alone will make me choose another suv. 😔
@Rich Santoro In 2020 they include auto start/stop.
I just got one of these in the 2020 and it has the auto start option to turn it off. . I hate that they make them that way but I am glad that I can turn it off.
@@Aidinaousley But you have to turn it off every time you use the car, no? That's not a convenient solution.
Non defeatable start-stop technology should be defeatable.
It is with a real blazer
I wish that the start stop system could be turned off in all vehicles that have it cause I'm not a fan of it.
Parker Stephens What’s hilarious: In the last generation Cruz they offer a kill switch. So for a compact car it’s given, but in a crossover it’s not? I attribute this to more money being made as updates are made in the car, but if the cars like the RDX or MCK/X already have it... 🤔🤔🤔
50ccc yep because I turn it off the majority of the time in my RDX.
It would be nice if wasn't in vehicles in the first place.
You have to deactivate it in all the new Fords otherwise the HVAC turns off at every stoplight which is super annoying.
TheUnlimited001 it’s just Ford ignoring. That’s easy enough for the intelligent crew..
Blazer rsing and loving it should be the tag line in a commercial lol
The back looks like a lexus RX350
I thought the same thing !
It looks like a Renault Kadjar from the rear.
Agreed , also front looks like new Hyundai Santa Fe...
I said the same thing. I said that if Chevy and Lexus got together, this would be the outcome
OMG you're right! I cant unsee that now!
This new blazer is very different from the 80s ones, but not THAT different from the 90s-early 2000s ones. So I don’t know why everyone is complaining so much
You are forgetting the 1991 K5 Blazer. 91 was the last year that Chevy made the K5 Blazer
I want to like it, but I'm super skeptical on long term reliability.
100% agree
It’s a Chevy so you should be skeptical
@-TheManInDboX - for the first week lol
-TheManInDboX - lol
I have the same 2.5l engine in my 2015 impala. 0 issues with 70k now.
🎉 Just bought one two days ago and I’m really enjoying it everything he says is true
The 3.6 still sounds the same even after 15 years. My 05 Aussie built VZ Calais has the early version of the 3.6L V6 and it still goes hard and when you try, you can get the rear wheels spinning. Timing chain is the only major problem most people have with the 3.6 which has also given the nickname "rattletec".
Buncha fake nostalgia taking an old name badge and slapping it on a junky generic overpriced crossover. Nice work you did GM.
I'll request a blazer next time I need a rental car
Micah is the Ryan Reynolds of car reviews, in a good way heheh
When I saw initial mockups, I derided its lack of traditional Blazer touches - body-on-frame design, V8, 4X4, off-road ability, and simplicity. But after seeing this in video and actually on the road here, I really do like it. That Premiere looks stunning, especially in that color combination, and the overall package seems to be very well-suited to compete with other mid-size SUVs. GM is slowly, but surely, getting their act together again (shame vehicles like the Impala are going soon though).
It’s not a blazer. 😔
Micah should definitely Chevy "Blaze" at 04:20 in the afternoon.
Thanks for the video, chief!
What a great, well made and funny video :) This guy needs to take his talents to South Beach
That styling will be tired before too long. Also Chevy will wish they didn't name it that after Bronco comes out.
Yeah, we’ll see what Ford pukes out! I wouldn’t be too surprised if it’s another barf bomb like they always put out. Don’t be too ashamed if it disappoints like all the rest of Ford products...
Illuminated Crosshairs lmao this commend did not age well....the bronco is a downright steal compared to this trash
If anyone pays the prices GM is trying to charge for this thing I'll be amazed. Over $50K for this thing is a joke. You could have a larger Mercedes, BMW, Audi or Acura for that money.
LOL, looks like you haven't priced out cars recently. Maybe you could get those for $50K used.
Ur brainwashed.
X3, Q5, GLC, RDX all start around 40k. You can easily get a mid trim model for 50k. The blazer just isn’t worth 50k. It’s a chevy that is built on the same platform as the Acadia, XT5, engine out of a camaro v6, no special features of this car stand out other than the style and the name. Atleast the XT5 is a Cadillac.
- JPL - looks like you haven't been doing the pricing. A fully loaded RDX Advance AWD tops out around $47,000, a well equipped GLC, X3, Q5 can be had for right around $50K.
- JPL - and they're premium brands with much better quality materials inside, more room and likely much better resale than a Chevy. I see this being a huge flop at the prices they're charging.
Homerun on interior looks beautiful the Corvette interior is pretty amazing too, Spread those two design languages to the rest of your lineup
Never thought I would consider a Chevy but I like it
I can't help but think... does it look like as if SAAB stayed in the automotive industry, this is what they'd release. A modern 9-7X.
That's a fine looking vehicle. The interior looks nice and functional as well.. guess chevy pulled something off here..!!
Great review!
Bought one in 2019 & driven 100,000 kms & still doing good
Hallelujah a good Blazer review
The front design resembles the santa fe
Nice review, Chief.
I kept wondering why the name bothers people and finally realized, I grew up with the S-10 Blazer being more prevalent than the old school boxy ones. So to me, it makes sense that it would have become a crossover by now. The fact that it's cool looking, decent to drive, and has a good engine is just a bonus.
The prices are ridiculous. But I noticed a long time ago that GM/Ford/FCA have started to price their MSRP a little high because they constantly have discounts. Blazers and Traverses in Austin are being advertised with anywhere from $4000-7000 off the sticker.
Crossovers are a plague
🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣
Nittanyburg 20 An expensive over priced Plague
I love uncool cars, you get way better deals on them. Seriously considering a minivan for our next car.
Quix I wouldn’t have expected that at all, congrats!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Micah can you review ypur daily driver car
This is a really nice Blazer. Usually don't look to much at gm products, but I like this one.
Well written and presented - yet again.
MICAH U DA MAN !
If KBB, especially Micah, is impressed by the Blazer, it must be really damn good. It's almost jaw dropping and shocking! I've never seen a KBB video that gives any GM car more than a meh. Frankly, the exterior and interior designs are very distinctive compared to all of the very plain vanilla, COTS CUVs in the market today with a very impressive power train. I'm going to test drive one around Memorial Day and plan to buy a Premier.
I'm surprised that Micah didn't show us if the visors slide or not. It's a nice feature that not all cars have. Also, cargo capacity with the rear seats folded?
At 1:49 I have never seen a Prius move that fast! Lmao 😂
i'd take the Blazer RS version over the Ford Edge ST any day.
Why
Anyway , Blazer or camaro SUV I'm in love with this car
You have horrible taste.
Genesis G90 you have ignorant opinions that can’t even relate to taste....
Looks great, interior dash is really nice, especially those round vents, just love 'em. Don't hate, it's just an opinion :)
Saw one in a car park while on holidays in the US recently. I'm not a fan of SUVs in general, but I thought this looked really nice, particulrly when considered within the veritable ocean of similarly styled Asian cars that seemingly dominate US roads (though it's rear is disappointingly Lexus-like, I feel). Obviously didn't get to drive it, so I can only comment on the looks, but I was pleasantly surprised. The silver is a bit dull all the same.
I'd buy this over the new Passport any day of the week!
This is beautiful
I really like it. The styling is quite nice, both inside and out. Not a true Blazer but at least the same sake lives on. I just hope no one complains that GM didn't keep the old Vortec 4.3.
The radio has AVC that raises the volume based on ar speed and it can't be turned off....
It kinda looks like a Lexus and a Chevy had a baby. I think it looks good.
Yay for the V6!!
That rear cargo divider looks very useful.
I d like to know, if like the Caddy counterpart, does this "Blazer" also afford it's buyers Korean front steering and suspension parts?
Best looking suv ever? Especially the front and side.
No not at all it’s alright in the looks department but the RDX destroys almost everything
Chevy played it safe with the name, not truly an SUV but a CUV. Would I buy, heck yeah, I think it looks sporty, I see potential to make it look even better.
50k for a Chevy? With auto start stop that can’t be disabled? Damn
@@ZippyNarwhal I took a Cruze out of town, that start stop drove me insane.
No way, we live for your elbow test!
That is a reviewer who understands market trends and does not cry over progress. Compare this to the recent KBB review of Nissan Pathfinder in which the reviewer hates the car cuz it is no longer body on frame! KBB could use some consistency.
The first time i like a Chevy
Fwirs check out the Cruze
Hopefully Chevy will bring back the Trail Blazer to compete with the Bronco not this crap
The TrailBlazer is in its 2nd generation for the rest of the world. GM just have to bring it to North America.
Don't get your hopes up. They already announced the new Trailblazer will be a compact CUV slotting between the Equinox and Trax.
No complaints here! I love my Premier model.
Interior and exterior look good, I like it
I'm super impressed with this vehicle and dont give a single damn what anyone says , this SUV is a beast.
CUV
Fully loaded almost 50k??....
Choose this over a Durango RT or a Edge ST??? Come on Chevy....put the crack pipe down
Durangos compete with Tahoes and Expeditions. You put the crack pipe down
I wonder how this measures up to the Lincoln mkc reserve?
I'm guessing that the GMC version of the Blazer, the Envoy will be out soon also.
So they’re calling the Nissan Rogue a Chevy Blazer now?
kinda looks like a lexus rx on steroids
Can you tell us that this cars design doesnt share with hyundai Santa Fe?
I really like Micah as a reviewer
Micah is wayyyy too good of a presenter
front end = aggressive
Rear end = soccer mom
Almost had it chevy
Hit the nail on the head.
Today I saw a 1980s K5 Blazer later in the day I saw the New 2019 Blazer in the Chevy Dealer lot. My thoughts well.
Am I crazy or does the side profile resemble the lexus rx especially in the back
