One of the best and clearest carb removal videos I've ever seen. Great job! Thank you.
That’s great! Thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video! Just got tasked with getting my nephews 400 Sportsman going after it broke and sat outside for 3 seasons. Figured start with an ignition and fuel overhaul but never worked on Polaris's. Fantastic, clear video. This was the first video I saw when I searched and I think I'm going to stick with your channel. No need to search for anyone else! A+.
EDIT: Made the comment just before you tackled the throttle cable plate guard screws. ALWAYS keep a container of valve grinding compound on your shelf! For hard to remove screws dip your screwdriver tip into the compound. The steel dust bites into the surface without slipping. If you're really in a jamb you can use Vaseline and sand but make sure you have more of the latter in the mix. Works great!
Just bought an 04' sportsman's 500.
Guy says it runs fine.
It didn't.
Fuel lines off.🤬
I run to my phone, with only one person in mind. You!!!!
I've learned so much info from your videos over the past 6 months....
By far the very best teacher I've seen on any site
Please keep these videos coming!!!!
WE NEED YOU!!!!
🙏 Thanks
First time to your channel. I'll echo all of the positive comments you received with regard to carburetor removal. From a 72 year old, you made it so simple. I'm dealing with a bottom tube leak suspecting a float issue. Thank you very much
Happy to have you visit! And thank you, glad you were able to find it helpful! Hope your issue gets resolved!
Very well made video, not a thing missing.
thank you! this was very clear and simple. it really helps understand what I'm about to do, so I'm not just blindly turning screws :)
Happy to help. Let me know if you run into any issues. Thanks for watching.
Hands down the best how-to I’ve seen.
Amen
Thanks for sharing and having an actual video. Not just talking about how and pointing at the carburetor like the last video I watched from some bonehead.
Thanks for the great video on removing the carb. I just acquired a free 99 Polaris Sportsman 500 and it came with a brand new carb. Was able to remove the old and reinstall the new carb thanks to this video!
Straight forward explanation.. I like it.. I've replaced many carbs but not on a sportsman.. Always like to get input before i start anything..
Glad it helped!!
Just pulled the same carb off my 500 Ranger and this video helped me get it much faster.
Great to hear! Check out more Ranger videos on my channel! czcams.com/users/MidNebraskaMotorsports

About to do one of these also. Love your channel man. I buy parts from you on ebay also. Last part was a steering bump stop for a brute force 750. Still working on it.
This video helped me out so much, thanks!

Video couldnt be better. Thanks for posting. Die hard Kawie dude but I just got a mint 01 sport 400 and the guy left gas in it while it sat in his garage for 16 yrs. Spilling gas when it starts and runs....prob a stuck float?? Great Insight here, Ive memorized your dance and its down to the basement I go. Cheers to Nebraska MS!!!

Just pulled the carb off my 2000 Sportsman 500 4x4. The steps are exactly the same. My carb looks a little different, it has a plastic throttle lever cover with 4 screws.
Anywhoo, I was having some issues when putting the wheeler in drive and going anything over 5 mph. It would load up, loose power and backfire. My thinking was bad fuel, not getting fuel. Crazy part, it fires up, idles, and revs up in neutral just fine.
Noticed a bunch of oil in the airbox, so I'm thinking the needle and seat are bad and it was just dumping fuel in the motor. Any thoughts or advice?
What is the name of the airduct you removed. Im trying to find a replacment boot and for the life of me i cant figure out what that thing is called. Its not the clutch breather? Desperatly tying to find a part # for that boot.
the screws on the carb are actually JIS, not phillips, and the proper driver is much less likely to give you trouble. Great vid, by the way.
You are correct! Thanks for watching and the comment. Let us know if there is anything we can help with. Check out: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports for any parts you might need.
how do you adjust the choke on this carb, not sure what the starting point would be or how this actually works on this model
Need help following the fuel lines from the tank and the one that feeds into the same area the front right shock on mine is pouring fuel out when i fill the tank with fuel what could this be?
Excellent, extremely clear video and explanation on removing a carburetor. So...to reinstall, it's a matter of just do it in reverse. Is there anything one should know about hooking everything back up? Thanks!
Nope, reverse order will work great! Make sure your fuel hose isn't cracked because you'll end up pushing a chunk of rubber off the hose into the carb. Super common issue after carb cleans. I need to remember to mention that in my videos. I do have a re-install video coming out sometime. I just don't remember when. Thanks for watching!
How do you remove the float which holds the float needle? Is there a pin?
2 👎s? Why? Would be cool if YT required
"constructive criticism" - at least on eduvids!
A 👍 from your Favorite Mustard!
Спасибо
Черт возьми, да. Люблю помогать. Дайте знать, если у вас появятся вопросы.
What is that first air duct going to that you pointed out at 0:34 seconds into the video? I happen to have the same year and model as the one in the vid and a rat found it’s new home in there. Thanks and you definitely deserve more subs man with the work you put into not only the mechanics but also filling.
Filming^*
It would actually be at 0:28
Is it possible to change the starter on 2005 Sportsman 500 HO by getting access with the removeal of the airbox....this video looks like it would work. Not interested in removing the clutch area. I searched your videos and did not see a starter replacement.
Great video idea! Yes, pull that air box and you should be able to get to everything needed. Thanks for watching and the comment. Let us know if you need anything else!
Installed new carburetor and when installing choc cable It is not long enough What do I do It just doesn't seem to fit Just needs to be a little longer

What does the air duct do, is it a inlet or an outlet ?
Which air duct are you talking about? There really isn't any outlet in the carb area. Mostly inlet. Curious why this would matter? Thanks for the comment and for watching. Let us know if you have an questions! Let us know if you need parts: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports
Thanks so much

I can’t get a wrench on my 12 mm choke plunger nut. On a 99 Sportmans 500. Different carb. The way the nut is sitting a regular wrench cannot make the nut move because there is no okay between the wrench and the housing of the carb. I can’t even tighten it or loosen it. It’s in that perfect position to not be wrenched on at all. I’m pissed.
They can be a real pain. I would us a good pair of needle nose pliers. Get a good firm grip on it so you don't slip off. Otherwise, send it to me and I'll get it pulled off for you. Thanks for watching.
I took a taiwan-made 12 mm I'm grinding the Jaws theme so I can get in there
Great how to on removing Sportsman carb. EXCEPT for one glaring issue. At about 1:00 you said removing that plastic air duct may make it easier to remove carb. Yes, it is easier to remove carb. BUT, getting air duct reinstalled is a royal pain! It goes into a very flexible rubber boot that has no access on the left side - clutch housing makes access impossible on that side. I removed the air box, again, after having reinstalled it. At least then you can actually "touch" the boot, but still cannot access the left side of boot. 1 1/2 hours of frustration later with various tools trying to get boot around duct, finally got reconnected. The small extra time to remove carb was more than offset by the great difficulty in getting air duct reinstalled. If there is a "trick" to getting it connected, PLEASE include it in video. Otherwise, the video is wonderful "how to".
What does it do is it an inlet or outlet ?
@@jandeband it is like a “snorkel” so air to the air box doesn’t get water.
How much to put my throttle cable on 😂😂
These frikken machines are a pain in the nuts to work on.
@@MidNebraskaMotorsports both my main output shafts front and rear at the differential ends the splines are stripped. need a video on replacing and upgrading that part. Thought both diffs where blown thank fuck there not. Someone put over size tires and a spacer kit on it but didnt upgrade the spline cupplers.
My friends insists on us “not knowing a damn thing about atvs to remove the carb
