6.0 Powerstroke - Smoking At Idle - Injector failure

- 6.0 Powerstroke - Smoking At Idle and heavy smoke under acceleration, with no tune on the truck. I have the egr deleted already and I did not smell gas in the tank so I think I have a stuck open injector. Which if left untreated can cause hydro lock and be very expensive. So I do some tests to see which injector is stuck open.

Thanks for stopping by! Please comment below if you have had this problem and what your fix was.
Thanks for the knowledge
NP, I don't know much but I try to help.
Perfectly explained! Thanks for sharing!
agreed!
Thanks!
You obviously have great mechanic skills. good to know when you're on the road.
You never know what fate will throw at you!
I had to check injectors the other day on my 6.0l. I used the method of pressing the metal clip in that will release the injector harness. This way you dont lose the metal clip.
Awesome!
Very informative and helpful video thank you for sharing
Thanks!
@@grumpysdiy you welcome
👍🏻
You can push the clip in to unplug the injectors. No need to remove the clip use a flat head and push it in
I ended up learning that lesson later. Lol
Had my injectors changed not too long ago and now i can see the exhaust smoke, also i believe its burning way too much fuel, no engine codes
Those injectors if you don’t use fuel treatment or if you run them out of fuel ie low fuel pressure. Will over time stick open. If that’s your issue unplug injectors one by one till the smoke goes away, then you know.
My problem was after a full diesel logic injector change one came unseated, as far as I can assume. Loud knocking and a TON of white smoke for about a second before I snapped the key off to try and avoid hydro lock or motor destruction. This is after it idled for an hour just fine. No revs. Just happened as soon as I sat in the seat…Hope I’m right😂
Was it throwing any codes or check engine light when this happened?
No check engine light. I didn’t put a scanner on it, also think I mentioned it in the video.
You can push the clip in and remove the injector plug this way you don’t lose it do not pull it
That could have saved me a while ago.
This is happening on my 6.7
If I keep driving can I risk damaging engine ? I know it wasn’t cuz my dumb ass had water in fuel amd it froze injector
When I spoke to a Ford mechanic when this happened to me, he said I would run the risk of hydro locking the engine. Now you could unplug the injected and drive it like that, though it will drive like shit.
The clips you don't have to take off, just push it in and pull
👍🏻
Is the white smoke consistent?
Or does it come and go?
If you have an injector down your engine will run like shit. So does it run like shit or not? Like it’s missing or miss firing? The engine will literally shake. So is that happening? What you may have is a sticking injector. Put some kind of injector cleaner in, because diesel is so refined these days they take out the best lubricators.
Did u you a scanner on it
I talk about that also.
What was it
I say what it was in the video
Can't this also mean a cracked cylinder or bad piston rings? The way these things "roll coal" is by flooding the cylinder with diesel then ejects it out the exhaust so slight smoking not being flooded by fuel means it's getting to the bottom of the cylinder some way. Or I'd thing it can also mean sticking valves with anti-freeze going into the cylinder.
No it can’t because after I diagnosed it in the video. I replaced the injector and the problem was fixed.
I love arm chair mechanics tho…
@Grumpy's Diy not really a chair mechanic. I've owed my 6.0 for 3 years now and done quite a bit of work to it. Last thing I did to it was rebuild the front end Minnesota winters are really tough on cars especially a diesel it's constant work I've also owned a Lincoln Aviator for 9 years now and it's still in really good shape. I'm just kind of researching because my 6.0 has a new development of on start up it blows blue smoke pretty bad until it's fully warmed up then it just goes away regardless my plan is tearing it apart this summer and putting the actual full bulletproof kit on it and go ahead and replacing the headgaskets while I'm at it. Been wanting to do it since I bought it. I seen the follow up video and seen you fixed with the new injector but I would have never just replaced just 1 of them as the one that went out is a sign that more are probably going to follow.
@@MYKNFURFC blue smoke? Blown head?
You don’t have to pull the clip out u push it in
I know that now, because your not the first or the second person to comment the same thing in this video.
This is a diesel engine correct? When he said gasoline, he meant to say diesel?
Because my engine is doing the same but mine is diesel.
When I was referring to gas in the tank, I was referring to someone putting gasoline in your diesel tank which will make it smoke.
@@grumpysdiy I heard you. Thanks for the video.
I think in my case is that I need to replace the valve stems.
Damn, well look at it this way. Since you have to pull the heads, might as well get them o ringed and throw studs if you don’t have them. After the valve work, since you might as well do both sides for longevity.
@@grumpysdiy thanks for the advice. Definitely will have the mechanic do that as well.
Best of luck.
