Street Fighter 2 might have come first, but for my money this was hands down the best fighter. Immersive gameplay, the attention to detail, the graphics, the sound, everything about it was just perfect. And when you thought it couldn't get any better along came Samurai Showdown 2.

There's a guy with a coughing animation that tied into his backstory, Street Fighters doesn't have that shit.

God, I loved this game when it came out in the arcade.

I always felt that other consoles made agreements to limit content conversions of NeoGeo games. There's no way the 3d0 couldn't do everything the NeoGeo did with samurai showdown.

I had the Genesis version growing up and I loved it and much preferred it over the SNES version when I rented it once at Blockbuster. Sucks no Earthquake but after owng MK II on Genesis I was used to cutbacks in authenticity in favor of gameplay.

That was a throwback! Samurai Shodown 2 was my fav in the series, Ukyo being my main, and Jubei second best. Great video :DD

Samurai Shodown is a true timeless classic and I still love to play it. Back then I owned the SNES- and Megadrive port. The SNES version is the more accurate one imo, bc altrough it's zoomed out, it has Earthquake, more voice samples and all moves, unlike the other 16bit ports.

For me Samurai Shodown was the reason to buy an AES back in 94. Today i just own the MVS (Part I-IV) and the Neo CD Version (I+II), because of the great Soundtrack. Timeless Classics !

Samurai Showdown was such a beautiful game. I didn't really grow up playing it but always loved the visuals and the depth it provided compared to Capcom games

Great video. I remember having the 3DO version, and was really impressed by it. The controller sucked, but I had an adapter that allowed you to use an SNES controller on the 3DO which helped a lot.

Never played any of the ports. Only played Sam sho in the arcade as a kid. These ports are pretty impressive. Eventually through emulation I was finally able to play and really enjoy these games. Gen-an the freaky claw guy is my main and also like earthquake. From samsho2 and forward, Genjuro is my favorite character. Great video

Gen-an, Haohmaru & Hanzo are my top three from the first two :)

Nice show. I'm not nostalgic for this game, but I miss the days where every console had a different version. I don't know how you can keep a straight face while talking about the gameboy port, lol. As a kid it was cool to have Mortal Kombat on both gameboy and game gear, but as an adult I laugh at fighting games on handhelds with their 2 button controls, lol.

Here is a fun fact Samurai Shodown is based off of the japanese movie samurai reincarnation 1981. Being a loner when I was a teenager I used to go to the arcades a lot the first person I beat and cut in half was earthquake after him I forgot what character beat me.

For me this game is what got me to bye a neo geo system it was used but I was friends with the owner of a game store so it worked out I loved that system The characters we’re really tall and the sound was really good but I couldn’t afford $300 for a game .played the PlayStation version the characters were too small but I did like the genesis version and now I play on the PS4, which is actually not bad and the second one is good two

I would consider changing the title battle of the ports. Theres a channel with this name already.

That was actually a preliminary (generic) title, the video was released 12 hours early by accident (1AM instead of 1PM). Had to add the description, references, and change title etc. lol

NEO•CD and AES versions were not ports, they are the exact same game data. There is no difference to the game at all. This is true for all NEO•GEO games, they didn't get ported, they're the same game.
The MVS had a setting in soft DIPs to turn the blood and death endings off, that is not an AES thing at all. Japan region had that setting on, US and Europe had it off.
The 3DO version was not nearly as good as it was often made out to be.

  • @jonathanbranhamsgaminganda8799

My favorite version is the fm towns computer version of samurai showdown it's the closest to the arcade version

I always thought 3DO version was closest to Arcade? I have Samurai Showdown on 3D0, Sega CD,Neo Geo CD, AES, and MVS. 🙂

    • @NEONBattleBitch
      @NEONBattleBitch  Před 4 měsíci +1

I believe it was, aside from the Neo-Geo CD / CDZ which would've be the closest :) That's awesome that you have all the good variants!
