Why Mazda never sold the Mazda 3 2.5T (with AWD!) in Australia I'll never know 🙄🤷♂️
Packaging constraints with RHD vehicles. That’s why we also don’t get the CX-30 turbo
Please review the 2.5 next!
this 2.0 engine are the slowest in the Australian Market , but in Malaysia , u will get 2.0 engine with 165hp , and more torque with 213nm. Its more power and fun
Its the same engine (the 2.0) u can even unlock his potential by software modify.
It can go from 122 to 170-180 and arround 235-240 nm
But shhh dont tell anyone 🤫🤣
@@pawballer1964 thanks pal !
Driving a Mazda, for those of you who haven't had that opportunity, is incredibly pleasant and, above all, a natural and relaxed experience.
Already after the first drive, you will feel as if you have been driving a Mazda for years. The steering wheel is incredibly precise, linear, and sporty, yet light, the pedals are soft and extremely well and easily dosed, and the gearbox is like in the song, short lever, short travel, and at the same time direct and precise, but also soft as if moving through the butter.
It never gets stuck anywhere.
Mazda's naturally aspirated engines are famous for their reliability and durability, and the absence of large service and costs, as well as the proven economy, will make many people fall in love with the Mazda, although there will be a considerable number of those who will bypass it precisely because of the naturally aspirated engines and only for that reason.
For me, it is not natural to have 1.2 with 150hp, just to say that you are faster. Direction is more important than speed. You can go fast in the wrong direction.
You have that on every corner.
But a car with a soul.... I choose Mazda.
Be interested in seeing a review of the 2.5lt
I’ll see what I can do 👍
Great video and very complete. Do you have the Skyactive X 186hp in Australia? If yes, are you planning on try it?
I know this is a Mazda 3 review but I'd like to share my opinion for what it's worth
The 2.0-litre Mazda 3 is not much faster than a 1.5-litre Mazda 2 in the performance testing and the braking distances are almost identical.
I have the latest Mazda 2 Evolve and it still hold it's own, albeit dated in some areas.
Thanks for your comment. Great point.
The little 2 is a fun car as well, much lighter in weight.
85dB on full throttle?? Don't these come with the same double glass windows as the CX-5? My CX-5 acceleration on highway speeds measures 78dB
2.0, 150hp and 0-100 in 10.18 seconds? 😢 Please prove them wrong someone. I ordered this model/engine and I actually hoped it would perform at least a second quicker 😬
Hey Brett, thank you for reviewing the Mazda 3 with the 2 litre engine, I drive a CX-30, which is almost 100kg heavier, so I'd expect it to be a tad slower.
Thanks for watching.
I’ll have a CX-30 video coming up soon - but I think it’s the 2.5L
@@drivingenthusiastaustraliaI’m keen to watch it Brett!
A bit like my Subaru XV - the 0 to 40 is lethargic, but unlike the XV the Mazda four sounds great and wakes up a bit north of 4000 rpm.
Nice looking car it has the sound of a rotary engine when revved very Mazda, I cant help thinking a Manual Transmission would suit this engine better to take advantage of the low output an modest torque, auto boxes rob the power on non turbo 4 cylinder engines.
Weird how Maxda doesnt have a hot hatch. Or even a warm one to take on the mild turbos 🤔 They look great inside and out though, I'll give them that.
America has the 3 and the CX-30 with the 2.5T engine. I guess it partially counts?
Yep, agree. A hot or warm variant would be great. This is halfway there. It just needs some power.
They do kind of. Mazda also make the Mazda 3 2,5 Turbo with 184 kW. Not a real hot hatch but powerfull enough
@@SpykerOwner yeah that's an overseas model we don't get that in Australia 🦘 but it would be great if Mazda made it available to us.
Assuming you have these evaluation cars for a week kinda thing, can you list at the end what your fuel average was for the week? Looks like you’d do some commuting, rural running and a good dose of ‘testing’. Curious to see what a real average is like compared to claims. IE my outback (3.6) can’t get close to its claim, but my Ute (D350D) easily sits under it.
Great idea!
Why why why does Mazda INSIST on using the glossy black plastic in their interiors. Look at the scratches on that center console and it’s almost a new car!
I remember that you actually made a video of the of the Mazda 3 Skyactiv-X 2.0 180hp 224Nm at your PDriveTV channel. Will you someday test the updated version that is Mazda 3 e-Skyactiv x 2.0 186hp, 240Nm?
I don't think that update is available in Australia. I'll check and see what I can do.
@@jakedcrane8019 What did you say? I can only see you original comment and then my reply. I didn't delete any.
@@drivingenthusiastaustralia Thanks for your reply man. Hopefully someday we can see the updated version of the Skyactiv X engine. CZcams did some weird things to me because your reply first disappeared somewhere when i first tried to read it, but thankfully I can see it again after viewing replies another way. :)
Is driving long distances/Road trip a hobby in australia?
The 3 needs an 8 speed auto across the rsnge ASAP if Mazda are going to persist with N/A engines. The gearbox is some of the problem 5th and 6th are basically the same overdrive gears then there is a canyon to 4th.
Agree
I disagree. Having 6 speed automatic transmission is not an issue, its the torque converter transmission that Mazda still uses in their cars that slows them down. What Mazda actually needs is an 6 speed automatic transmission that doesnt have a Torque converter at all like DCT or AMT.
@@jakedcrane8019 disagree. Modern torque converter gearboxes are pretty good, the auto Mazda uses I think is fantastic - aside from it needs another two gears. And the sport button is also too aggressive.
Whilst DCTs would transfer a bit more power they aren't smooth in the city.
@@kurts9085Two more gears is retarded idea, it only makes driving less smooth because of more shifts at even small driving speed changes. Lol "sport mode too agressive" so you basically hate raw performance and sharp throttle response. Your words are pretty much conflicting each other because first you complain lack of power because long gears, then with sport mode on car goes too fast. I wish that new cars would someday go back into the smooth 5-speed automatic transmissions but with more modern technology that transfers more power, shifts faster when needed than past 5-speed automatic transmissions did.
@@jakedcrane8019 seems like every OEM that has made 8+ speed autos disagrees with you, of which there are many.
As I said on the Mazda 3 6 speed auto the last two gears are tightly stacked and quite tall, 4th is close to a direct drive so a big jump down, then 1-2-3 are all big jumps.
That sort of gear spacing doesn't work when you don't have a lot of torque.
The sport button Brett also commented holds gears too long, and is quick to downshift. It needs tuning but the issue is again the 6 speed auto just doesn't have the ratios to tie it all together.
As a camry owner think I'll stay put with my already purchase
That's right... you don't need to buy every new car available. Greetings from a Mazda fan
I have a Yaris Hybrid and it’s faster by a good half a second! That’s horrendous.
Why isn't there a RHD version of the 2.5 turbo sold overseas ??
Good question!
Mazda decided not to produce RHD versions. We'd love it over here in Australia.
The gearing is too damn high.
Looks fast, but very, very slow. There's a lot of 3 cylinders that would shame this thing.
Hmm... A bit of an exaggeration there.
As a Mazda 3 owner, I have to say: I love my car, but this car is ridiculously slow!!!
I don’t get why anyone who’s gonna notice and complain about lack of power, choose the 2.0L. There’s a more powerful 2.5L for a reason. It’s not a Corolla where you’re stuck with slow (2.0) and slower (1.8 hybrid).
@@User-cb4jm The 2L and new 1.8L hybrid are both quicker than this Mazda 3's 2L.
@@joytech23PDrive tested the Corolla ZR Hybrid hatch and it took 12.92 sec 0-100 so
@@User-cb4jm The exact video you're quoting from is the previous generation with less power. Some time in 2023 they updated the hybrid system to supply more power and torque.
You haven’t driven a slow car then. Acceleration doesn’t really matter on the roads.
My goodness, thats embarrassing. I feel sorry for the owners. Thats 1980's acceleration standards.
Yeah a standard Corolla petrol does the sprint in mid-9s. Everything should be able to keep up with the humble Corolla, surely?
Let's hope you give the same critique to Chinese cars such as Haval and MG which is even slower
@@mrkring1526 always
What’s with that new hideous engine cover that doesn’t fit the shape of the engine properly and no chrome logo, someone’s taken a leaf out of Volkswagen book and thinks ugly engine bays are acceptable.
They are too busy spending their pennies on stupid tech like petrol compression ignition and plastic leatherette on interior surfaces.
@@user-vk4vd7vr5t Obviously not enough on interior surfaces cause my CX-30 gauge cluster is so sensitive it scratches if you look at it for too long lol.
Some other manufacturers spruce up their engine bay using orange cables, a change from black.
@@perpetualgrin5804 Those cables are for HEV or PHEV cars, not to brighten up the look of the engine bay.
I'd say since most people never actually look at the engine bay and mechanics couldn't care less about beauty covers, it doesn't really matter. But yes, the previous one was prettier.
