- South Buffalo Railway's day crew starts their Wednesday morning at J Yard near the Ford stamping plant in Blasdell NY, firing up their GP15-3 pair and moving a cut of scrap gondolas from one yard track to another before heading up the stamping plant's scrap track to pick up four loaded scrap gondolas and swap them out for four empties!

The scrap going into the hopper - i am taking a guess that its going up a conveyor housed in that yellowy shed? Nice video.
Thanks! Yep, the scrap goes from the main building to the loader via a conveyor.

Other then the lame flashing crossing lights(instead of sequential), very nice video & beautiful engines. I like the paint scheme & always liked the little Geep's. I'm wondering if there was a way to incorporate silver into the paint scheme, that would justify painting the trucks silver, that would be classy. I hope the plant mgr. or whatever company officer is in charge of the little geep's will keep them clean & shiny to show off a positive corporate image. Thanks Matt!
G&W's corporate scheme had silver trucks and fuel tanks way back in the day, but they obviously did away with the silver. These engines are owned and operated by G&W subsidiary South Buffalo Railway (not the Ford stamping plant), and so far they're doing a good job of keeping them clean.
Where the siding begins to the Ford plant there's some Xing signals. One set alternates as usual, but the other signal just flashes both lights on-and-off simultaneously. Do you know why? Seems like a dumb question, but I had to ask. Good thing I'm not a cat because I would have died years ago. 🤣
@@154Colin I don't know for sure why, but if I had to take it guess, it's probably because they aren't your typical railroad-maintained crossing signals; they were probably put in place by Ford. Even the bells aren't normal for typical crossing signals, they're more like fire alarm bells.
It's like when the State DOT puts up a road sign, the font/colors are correct and sign is the right size.
When the town/county DOT puts a sign up, it's "yeah whatever we got lying around"
Ford, or whoever does site management probably put up a sign..
