Kills me that Judd doesn't have an online library of his playing like Garstka or Halpern. Dude is so fucking good and Sound Awake is one of the best albums in the last 15 years.
Saw them with about 75 people in Dallas in 2010. A little band called Nothing More opened up for them. One of the best concerts I’ve ever experienced in my entire life.
They're from my city Perth and I saw em play a sold out show here last year having no idea who they were and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen
Had a couple of lessons with Steve a couple of years ago. Yes he's amazing, yes he's one of the best. And yes, has the personality traits to match. He's very humble, very calm and a really decent bloke.
Never seen a drummer SMASH the snare/cymbal as hard. SOUND AWAKE is a phenomenal album. A Tool quality album but in a different MODE, with one guitar using a weird alternate tuning.
No it's not. Just 12/8. He always plays 4 beats to the bar with kick, each beat has a triplet feel like 123,123,123,123. But later he changes the crash so it's playing essentially 3 even beats over the same bar so it's playing on the 1,5,9 of the 12 eight notes while Kick is on 1,4,7,10. Does the same thing on Change part 2
I agree with the sound quality on Sound Aawke. The bass drum in particular, on some of the calmer songs like New day and All I Know, is excellent. I wish I knew how they miced it :)
Had the pleasure to see him play a couple of times while they were playing in the EU. Literally the best sounding drummer I have ever seen! Steve rips!
There's definitely footage of this gig that is higher quality than this. Mark Hosking (one of the guitarists) posted that drum cam of "The Refusal" that popped up in your search, and it's the same concert/drum cam but much higher quality. Shame that The Judd (tm) doesn't seem to have the raw footage
This video is directly responsible for my purchase of tickets to Karnivools gig at Stockholm next january. And I dont even live in Sweden. So thank you Craig for my first ever trip abroad by myself. And also I get to see fucking Karnivool. Love ya
Found you searching for videos of one of the best most underrated drummer, immediately you name drop periphery members. Did I just stumble onto a hidden internet gem?
I've been looking for that Downbeat episode in which you told that anecdote of meeting him, can't remember who was the guest. Anyone help me out which one it was?
The phrase is I guess but rly it's just 7+7+7+6, with kick/crash on the + before the downbeat. Feels a lot easier to just feel it in 7 plus one bar w a beat cut off. Amazing song
YES STEVE JUDD!! easily the most underrated drummer of our generation in the most underrated band of our generation.
You're definitely right. Absolutely.
Kills me that Judd doesn't have an online library of his playing like Garstka or Halpern. Dude is so fucking good and Sound Awake is one of the best albums in the last 15 years.
Nolly requested this? lol. Steve is an animal, the outro of Change is flawless af.
One of very few bands I can easily call my favourite. Just absolutely beautiful music
Feels like I'm going to wait my whole life to get a chance to see them in the US. Absolutely dying to see them live.
Saw them at the Troubadour in LA. They're as good as you'd expect.

For those of you who care, I recently learned this song is in 27/4, which is absolutely insane.

Steve is my absolute favourite drummer and a Natty King

THE JUDDGE
sheer fuckin perfection.
surgically organic, and with a base playing level that's double that of some's prime-time performances
“That’s not on the record you spicy boy” 😂
Karnivool - Best songs to play on drums
Get all the sponsors u want we still gonna be watching
Best live drummer you will see! go see Karnivool, they are over in the UK next year after having to cancel this year, very much worth the wait!
Had the pleasure to see him play a couple of times while they were playing in the EU. Literally the best sounding drummer I have ever seen! Steve rips!
I’d love to see a high quality playthrough of Deadman

Came for the bollock trimming, stayed for the anecdotes.

Does the Downbeat merch ship to US?
Certainly does!
I've been looking for that Downbeat episode in which you told that anecdote of meeting him, can't remember who was the guest. Anyone help me out which one it was?
Karnivool is fucking legend. "Goliath" is one of my favorites. It's in 27/4...27/4!!!
The phrase is I guess but rly it's just 7+7+7+6, with kick/crash on the + before the downbeat. Feels a lot easier to just feel it in 7 plus one bar w a beat cut off. Amazing song
Lol. Three bars of 7, one bar of 6. Nobody in their right mind will count it that way when playing it.
Craig not a request but do you listen to SLEEP at all?
Dr. Craig
His delts are that big because he hits everything from the shoulder. Those left hand crashes on the first video are hard to watch.
This cringey channel keeps getting recommended
