  • These passages from the Writings of Baháʼu'lláh emphasize the great wealth of spiritual capacity that each of us possess. We are urged not to waste this treasure, but to make the most of the opportunity this life affords us to attain our true spiritual destiny.
"O friend, the heart is the dwelling-place of eternal mysteries: Make it not the home of fleeting fancies. Waste not the treasure of thy precious life occupied with this swiftly passing world. Thou comest from the world of holiness: Bind not thine heart to the earth. Thou art a dweller in the court of reunion: Choose not the homeland of the dust."
"Abandon not the everlasting beauty for a beauty that must die, and set not your affections on this mortal world of dust."
"O MY SERVANT! Thou art even as a finely tempered sword concealed in the darkness of its sheath and its value hidden from the artificer’s knowledge. Wherefore come forth from the sheath of self and desire that thy worth may be made resplendent and manifest unto all the world."
"Close one eye and open the other. Close one to the world and all that is therein, and open the other to the hallowed beauty of the Beloved."
"A pure heart is as a mirror; cleanse it with the burnish of love and severance from all save God, that the true sun may shine therein and the eternal morning dawn."
"Free thyself from the fetters of this world, and loose thy soul from the prison of self. Seize thy chance, for it will come to thee no more."
