Melissa was the best of Alan’s girlfriends, she was the nicest to him and never abused him or used him to get something. Kandi and Lyndsey were good choices but Kandi used him when he got his money then ditched him, and Lyndsey was fairly abusive to him at times and was kind of a hypocrite to him at time.

Charlie's speech was valid, because that's just how Charlie is, he lets Alan stay at his house, takes no rent, or money for any of the expenses for the house, so basically, Charlie pays for most of Alan's living costs.
However, the others' speech was horrible, and reflected how cruel everyone was to Alan on his birthday.

I know Alan wasn't the best of the human beings, the world leech falls on him like a glove but, the treatment that receives from his "family" sometimes is downright cruel. The Harpers must be one of the most evil and uncaring families on television history. It's a sitcom, I know, but still...
Charlie is a prick to Alan but he lets him stay at his house rent free for how many years. And how much of the interaction between Alan and Charlie is similar to the ripping that friends to each other. Except Alan in my opinion is no able to handle it because of his confidence issues?

Oh wait, I remember. She was tired of him being cheap and poor, so he sneaked her into a house that wasn't his and they had sex. Evelyn almost caught them since she was selling the house and they ran out in their underwear, then the police arrived, and she ran away.
She made a few appearances, but overall, they were definitely broken up.

Kandi was nice to Alan too. She never willfully wishes Alan any harm and seemed happy enough when they were together. Sure, she ended up taking his money but that wasn't out of spite or hate towards him, it was just because she needed it and she wasn't bright enough to think it all the way through.
Evelyn and Judith are funny though. Lyndsey wasn't actually very funny. Plus, Kandi was always nice to Alan, and so was Francine, but Alan ended up blowing it with Francine too when Kandi revealed that she was already having sex with Alan. Frankie was also very good to Alan as well, but Frankie was on the run with her daughter.
