I started with the Dexcom G6 then went to G7 and have seen a lot of the same results you described. I did not do a side by side comparison like you did so that was very interesting. I compared both G6 and G7 to my finger sticks. I did notice that the G7 if you started it when you have quickly changing blood sugars it does have problems getting lined out, so with the 12 hour grace period I get my blood sugars stable before I insert the new sensor. I always appreciate your videos, they have been a great help for me in my use of the Dexcom sensors. Thanks a bunch!

I really appreciate your willingness to help people with diabetes.
You have much more patience than I do.
I find it interesting that you shut off the alarms at night. While I never used the Dexcom sensors (I used Libre 3), I got to where I would dismiss the app EVERY night. Not using insulin made me think this was safe. I hope it is safe for you.
I don’t know how you tolerate the short life of the Dexcom units. I finally got fed up with the 14 day Libre units. Too costly and too much hassle with the false low alarms and often just plain wrong numbers.
    I deleted the app.

I just changed from D6 to G7 15 days ago , but am very impressed with the accuracy. However I needed to calebrate mine in the first 24 hours. It does not change as fast as G6, because it sends a reading evey 5 minutes. I love the shorter warmup time.I also use USMeds, and am very happy with theirservice.

I've been using the Dexcom G6 since February and had the same situation recently with having to calibrate two of them in succession. 1st time I had to do it this year. Switching over to the Dexcom G7 in 2 weeks and appreciate the information about it. The wife has the Freestyle Libre which I can't compare the operation of it to my unit. Thank you for your videos , they are my reference material. I'm sure I will really like the smaller size of the Dexcom G7.

This was informative! I only “tested” the G7 with my previous Freestyle Libre 1. I’m getting my G7 from Edgepark and had a bit of difficulty getting my next 90 day supply (Medicare) because my PCP didn’t include his clinical notes about my insulin usage before they would ship it. Now resolved, luckily I had a single Libre 1 sensor left so I could wait for my delivery. One thought I had was the number of sensor failures I’ve had with the G7; of the first 9 sensors I received, I had two failures (which were replaced by Dexcom) and one of those failed within 20 hours (again replaced by Dexcom). I’m hoping that Dexcom is working on this issue as well as providing pump integration.

From the G7 startup I was happy surprise they were less then 10 units between the two. Only 13 hours into the G7 I notice the G7 rise/fall seems to be slightly behind the G6. As a curiosity I wonder if location of the G7 sensor in the arm could be one of the reason of delay in the change points? Thanks for all of your cool blogs! MikeS

I love the G7. My first month went very smoothly. My second month not so well. I only get 3 sensors at a time. I inserted the 1st sensor on 11/05. On the third day it failed and said to insert a new sensor. I called Dexcom for a replacement. When I went to insert the 2nd sensor, I noticed it was from the same lot as the first one, so I was concerned. I inserted it, it warmed up and was "stuck" at 40 per deciliter. Then I got a message that there was an issue, do not remove sensor, wait up to 3 hours. After 3 hours it failed. I called Dexcom again and mentioned that all 3 sensors were from the same lot. They said not to worry. So I inserted the 3rd sensor, which failed almost immediately. Called Dexcom again. They were going to "overnight" the 3rd replacement sensor, but it is now 11/11 and I'm still without my CGM. FedX is supposed to deliver it tomorrow, 11/12. The other 2 should be delivered by Wednesday. I sure hope these one will work!

The G7 range right now is fairly awful. Definitely not the 20 feet they claim. Dexcom has sent a letter out to (I don't know how many medical professionals) stating that they'll be releasing a new version of G7 this winter, which should increase the range to 20 feet (like Dexcom G6) and fix the signal loss issue

There are more options with G7 as explained I have all alarms on vibrate and wear my Apple Watch Ultra 24/7 with a subtle vibrate when low or high. I can keep my levels great. Looking forward to my next A1C.

My opinion on this: Being G7 seems to be so very different, I wonder if they released it to see what bugs it has before letting it integrate with the pump which could create some drastic situations? Gives you some time to extend a few of the G6 sensors so one can order the G7 when available and not start using it until you are out of the G6's. Great of have spares waiting in the wings!

I’m back on the G6 after a terrible experience the the G7 and happy as a clam. In my experience, the G7 is an inferior device. Having Clarity on the the G7 app was nice but found that you can have the Clarity app open at the same time on Smart phone and serves the same purpose.. G6 is not perfect and needs calibration but much prefer it. The only advantage that G7 has is the warm-up period.

  • @davidwilliamson7514
    @davidwilliamson7514 Před 7 měsíci

First I should admit I am a numbers person. I look every which way at the numbers to see what is going on, so I deal with small differences. I switched to G7 back about March/April 2023. I also have the same glucose meter as was shown in your video, and through G6 and G7, I find it consistently 8-10 higher than my preferred meter. I find G7 more stable whereas if I had a major high or low, G6 would be skewed after, and I would have to recalibrate, sometimes several times. I find G7 handles it better but is a bit more sensitive to compression semi-lows or unexplained small jumps up, but it rebounds nicely. I tend to insert new G7 sensor about 10-11 a.m. (leaving the previous sensor in) and then switch over about 4-5 p.m. and for me they have pretty well synched up. I have to calibrate a few times after insertion but then I find G7 is less than 5 points off my stable morning readings. The Clarity component usually is about .5 higher for the estimated A1c than my lab results. As you can tell, I like G7 more, but G6 was very good as my first experience after being diagnosed…

Great vid. I am my wife's care giver, and she has been on the G6 for about 6 months now. Somehow, in our last prescription we got an extra transmitter. Not sure how that happened, I didn't notice until just the other day. So I guess this refill, I can just do sensors. But my question, is does the G7 allow screen shots on your phone of BG levels? I hate that I can't do that on my G6. Next cycle I will probably look into G7. She had the Freestyle lite to begin with, but we had all sorts of trouble , and I think it was because her arms are so big, so I wanted to try the belly readings, and it has worked much better. I didn't know G7 could be on the belly, until watching this, so thanks, so much!

I had an on-line "Chat" with Dexcom just a few days ago. The G6 iphone application is not okayed to work with the new iOS 17 Apple operating system. I failed to ask him if the Follow app would work, dummy me. I mentioned that it has been several months since the new release and that updating has security improvements that would be good to have installed in the phone. I also mentioned that if my current phone would give up the ghost, a new phone would more than likely have ios 17 installed. It was a couple of weeks after ios 17 was released when I was notified that the Tandem app would work with the new ios. I have been using Dexcom for almost 4 years now and they have been slow in getting the applications up to speed. I'm not a software guy but seems strange the interface changes for Dexcom and the ios would not be that difficult, I have read posts in other channels that say it works, works sort of, or doesn't work at all. Maybe something to do with the model of iPhone? Sorry I'll get off my soapbox.

Just as a heads up for those of you using tandem with the g7. My experience with the g7 was terrible using tandem. The g7 is extremely susceptible to compression lows so in the middle of the night, it’ll kill you. Not only will you lose sleep, but your pump will cut out which kills you. Also, the g7 can have sharp drops or sharp rises ranging from random 20-30 mg/dl jumps which sometimes aren’t accurate causing control in to give you a correction bolus. It g7 works for you, that’s awesome, but use caution and see which one works better for you. My experience I went back to g6

  • @mosesmartiny
    @mosesmartiny Před 7 měsíci +1

I have also experimenting with wearing the G7 and G6 together for some time to see if the G7 is good enough to trust given the non-trivial amount of early users that still report less stable and jumpy results with the G7. My general finding is that the G7 is more "jumpy" especially during the first 24 hours but also is more accurate and has less delay vs. my BG meter. The G7 will often rise or drop quite fast vs. the G6 and then go flat whereas the G6 moves more gradually and takes some time to catch up with the G7 value. Sometimes the G7 will "overshoot" and go a little too high or low when rising of falling fast and then reverting a bit backwards. I take this is down to the algorithm being more predictive on the G7 to try to minimize delay vs. actual BG.
The other large difference I have found is that the BT signal is still more reliable and stronger on the G6. Although the latest revisions of the G7 have improved significantly they are still not as good as the G6 when e.g. in my jeans pocket apposite side to the arm I am wearing the sensor on. I am sure Dexcom is working hard to improve this for the upcoming pump integrations.
Speaking of pump integrations: Omnipod 5 integration with the G7 is coming to the US early 2024. From the most recent Insulet Earnings Call:
"With regard to CGM, our efforts to expand our sensor integrations with our partners, Dexcom and Abbott, continue to steadily progress. I've already mentioned our progress with Libre sensor integration in the context of our European trial. We are also hard at work to complete our integration with Dexcom's G7 sensor, and we are excited to announce that we are planning for a limited market release of Omnipod 5 plus G7 also in early 2024."
However, this will be a separate limited market release to the new Omnipod 5 iOS app:
"And so we'll get into LMR with iOS, which will be a G6 offering initially. And we'll get into LMR with G7, and then the 2 systems will come together after that."

I wanted to hijack this video to make a general warning about the G-6. Just this morning I was helping a friend change out his sensor and the transmitter. After I got finished I was cleaning up and we were about to sit and have some coffee when he got a Dexcom error. Basically, it was a you can't reuse an old sensor. I was shocked and thought it was an error so I manually entered the patch 4 digit code back into it. Several minutes later same error popped up. This time I took the time to get in the trash and noted the old patch and the new patch had the same 4-digit code. I called Dexcom and they confirmed this is possible. I then looked in the box and noted that the next sensor had that same number. Beware G-6 users, watch those numbers!

@@DiabetesStrong I should tell the rest of the story. That box of sensors was the man's last box. He had one left in the box. I looked at it and discovered that the sensor had the same 4-digit number. Dexcom overnighted a replacement sensor and so did the VA. Last I spoke with the man (10AM EDT) nothing had arrived. He is still not actively using his CGM. This means that the entire box of G6 Sensors 3 all had the same 4-digit code. I was planning to attempt to get a sensor from a Pharmacy yesterday for him but was never able to get an RX. That is being fixed next week.

Tandem tSlim/Dexcom G7 compatibility upgrade was released this past week!!!
Hopefully G7 will prove more accurate than G6 because despite using Dexcom CGM since 2007, up to G6, Dexcom CGM accuracy isn't nearly as accurate as advertised so I still have to use BG meter teting on average of 7 times per day, compared to 17 to 19 times per day prior to CGM use, which I started in 2007!

Thanks for another great video! So: recycling situation is getting worse as more electronics and batteries are wasted.
On G6, it was possible to extend the life of the transmitter beyond 3 months by replacing the button battery (it requires some use of DIY tools, but it's technically possible).
And there is still no documentation on the communication and encryption standards used to read the Dexcom data using your own software: your data is sent to dexcom first if you want to download it. If that technical documentation would have been published, it would not take so long for diabetics to publish their own software to receive the data on an iWatch ( or on carplay).
Dexcom's decisions are typical corporate bullshit, and do not put the lives and freedom of the patients first.
On the methodology of your testing: maybe next time use same location (right and left arm) ? Because in my testing, there seems to be a difference between belly and arm position.

Just got my G7 this week. I see good & bad like you say.
I messed up my patch so don't have 1 on now. Can you get free patches for the G7 like we did with the G6?
Also , when I calibrate, it doesn't change my number like the G6 did. Any idea? Thanks for your fine info.

As far as I know, you can't request additional overlay tapes. And that seems really silly. I do like the Skin Grip patches if you decide to go buy some. I haven't had the need to calibrate my G7 yet, so no experience there

You said how great the alarms are working for you, but ours are not working right at all. A couple of examples are the alarm is set to go off at 80 (no delay) but at 79 it doesn't go off then another 5 minutes pass and it goes off at 73. It delays action being taken. Also, alarm sounds are not right. That is just 2 of the problems. I would have liked you to calibrate the G7's. For us it has been a waste to even try. It doesn't appear to do anything.

After having used both G6 and G7 there is one BIG issue. The range on G7 SUCKS!!! Can't even have the phone or receiver on the nightstand. Trying to go back to the G6 while they are still available. Also noticed the application of the sensor is much harder am MUCH more painful with the G7.

    • @SwissPGO

Range is a huge issue - it would possible less an issue if a watch would be the main receiver (it would always be at an arm distance) but any other device might be too far away.

I have been very disappointed with the G7 the G7 is smaller who cares the G7 has a quicker warm-up 20 minutes instead of two hours this is a great improvement the display is much worse that is negative but the fact that it seems to cut out after using 10 of them over the course of three months they seem to cut an awful lot I had flawless G6 readings for or five in a row and then maybe the sixth one cut out on the sixth or seventh day and never came back the G7 has never cut completely out but sometimes even after three days it cuts in and out eight or 10 times a day for 10 to 15 minutes that is much worse than the G6 I would not reckon The G7 to anyone but I would recommend the G6 I have recently found out that this is a programming problem so Dexcom needs to reprogram the device the research team has failed to identify this problem and launched the product before they had anyone explain to them about the problem the research team needs to have people try out the Product first and if they have done that they are having the wrong people try it out the G7 in my opinion right now is a complete failure

It is so very complicated. Glucose metabolism and regulation in mammalian systems is complex, and it so key to the well-being of the human population. Why the system gets out of control so much in the human population, is a valid question to look at.
