Okay, after jamming out to your Tennessee Jed track, I decided to try this one. REALLY nice job, Jeff. I love, love, love how you left huge amounts of time between verses to solo. And your dynamics in the tune are excellent, with all the nuanced highs and lows that many Dead cover bands playing gigs don't get.

in the climax of the song, switch to B minor pentatonic and you'll be amazed by the flavor it adds.
Good tip! I love thinking about music in terms of flavors too.
@@JeffWilliamsGuitar yeah it's kinda weird but it's just the perfect metaphor, like playing the minor pentatonic over a major chord of the same root adds a bit of spice, and I've learned this from John himself, he has a tendency to do this, and it really makes the solo take off, it's like you're modulating but not really.

@@bluesyace9564 Fore sure. I actually just created an Improv course and one of the lessons is titled 'Minor over Major?" I used to just try to match things up, but the clashing of notes is the best part!

Thanks! Yeah, at that spot I'm just trying to stress off beats to create tension, but with my poor keyboard skills, it does sound a little off! Haha. I've got a keyboardist playing on the next few tracks I'll be putting out that will definitely make things waaaaay better.

Thanks so much! I've got most of my gear listed in the description. I actually don't mic up anything. When I record bands that's a different story. I have a small home studio that is also mobile. But when recording backing tracks....it's all direct. And it's all about Universal Audio! It's pricey, but the best.
