Flying the F-5E Demo in VR!! Reverb G2 | RTX3090 - This was my first attempt at performing a demonstration in VR in DCS 2.7. The F-5 Freedom Fighter is one of my favourite aircraft in DCS despite some aerodynamics modelling short-comings.

Hey folks, let me know if you want to see more VR flying or if you would prefer me to shoot stuff in 2D for better image quality :)
2D but a VR video every here and there would be cool!
@@ArkanOthman Gotcha, thanks!
I actually really enjoyed the VR view. To me it looked much more like a real helmet cam and made it more immersive and interesting to watch. I didn't mind the shakiness or slightly lower quality :) Loved the demo by the way
That's great, thanks! I released that if I don't talk whilst in VR I can reduce the shakiness to a minimum so I might do something like that with a voice-over.
1+ for VR for demos; but missions would prefer 2D. P.s what pixel density are you running for VR in DCS VR setting?
At the beginning of the video, the shaking was annoying. But then, in flight, I didn't notice it anymore. That is my impression, and I hope you find it useful. Right now, in percentage terms it would be 80/20 in favor of 2D. But seriously I enjoyed this flight. Your comments make it much more immersive, thank you very much for that! And as you said at the end of your video: "¡Adios!"
Yeah the day VR looks like 2D will be a glorious day. I love my G2/VR but the crisp look I get with my 2D 34” UltraWde at 1440p is breathtaking and the clouds look sooo much better. Awesome video as always 👍🏻
Thanks! Yep, agreed. But even if ED focus on making DCS better for VR it would be a great start!
For me it’s a + for VR.
Was not expecting to like 3d but i really liked it
I like watching VR footage. Personally, I can't fly on monitors any more after VR.
These demo flights are awesome! Would be great to see with the controls indicator to see the level of precision and input that goes into flying it like this.
I must say that I am always impressed by the mastery that you have of the plane in the airshows ... What precision !! And I know what I'm talking about because I've been flying for 26 years on simulators. I've been flying in VR for 4 years and I love it, but for video editing, stay in 2D. Well done again. Sorry for my english translate, i speak french.
Many thanks! Very kind. And that is noted :)
Nice flight! I love the F-5!! I picked it up a few months ago. I thought the VR quality was very good and wasn't distracting to me at all once I stopped analyzing it. I agree, having you with the greenscreen would be better to see head turns and so forth. More realistic than Track IR that way. I have a few suggestions from things I've tried. Good VR recording is a holy grail. For OBS performance, have you tried using the software encoder instead of NVEnc? You can set up minimal or no compression and take the load off the GPU. Only downside is huge video files. Another trick is to not use VR mirror and just record the DCS VR view. You can virtually scale your monitor to 2K or 4K to trick DCS if you need to. Finally.. you can get 4K HDMI pass through devices to output video on USB3.0 and record it on another (cheaper) computer with your webcam from that. That takes the load away completely.
This was really cool, I honestly liked the VR alot... However, It'd be nice to get more cockpit on the screen and have the other cams maybe a little smaller? Overall very very cool great job and great video.
YES! this is great. You should look at doing the CF-18 RCAF Demo. Great paint schemes
I did the Finnish F/A-18 Demo recently. Don't think there's any decent cockpit/ HUD footage of the Canadian one

Spasibo, tronut :)
Epic!
Thought Shadowplay had a camera overlay? You can use the Display VR in Steam to record, it is a lot clearer. Or you can use the WMR window. One of them shows a full screen out of the left eye and I think Steam you can setup to use either eye. VR is so precise that it picks up your natural head shake. Of course the person never notices it, since you do it in real life. EDIT: The other thing you can do is setup a shoulder camera to record, like they do in real life.
VR all the way.
I can't remember off the top of my head but I am pretty sure there is a setting in Shadow play to remove VR head movement jitter.
You can also adjust the size of the mask in DCS.
To be honest unless you are streaming and want to use VR I can't see the advantage of live VR capture.
You could always fly in VR and then screen capture the track file in 2D, you can then either keep the head movements from the flight or re do them with track IR in the trackfile.
3D is interesting, but 2D is better to watch :)
3d... btw you are a great pilot
Cheers :)

I only fly VR and am very interested in VR...so I would like to see videos about the subject of VR and your experience with it...but I get why you would want to make 2D videos mostly for general flying purposes and with your cutout in front of the video
Personally, prefer much more 2D, not because of you but all the limitation VR has for recording. Has viewer 2D it is better. For you piloting for sure VR, so it will be up to you.
You could do a 4K recording of yourself doing the air show with your phone, then crop it, sync it to the other videos, and overlay it to look like your normal webcam. Probably not worth the trouble, though.
But then I can't use the green screen, not gonna look quite as polished.
please make SoloTürk bro
Might be a little while before I get the F-16 but once I do, sure thing!
For viewing some type of 'presentation', the way you did it, and have done it, is fine, and likely easier on the person creating the presentation. However, IMO, playing the sim in 2D is so 1980's.
Haha!
Better stay with 2D-track IR for the videos.
VR
Love the videos, but would you consider explaining basic flight controls/maneuvers used in DCS from your experience as a pilot? I would imagine your experience would allow you to dumb it down pretty well for those of us who are just starting out
How long did you train to get it like that?
This one was fairly straight forward. A few hours all in I guess. The part that takes longer is actually creating it/ testing the maneuvers, how they flow and then adjusting. Getting the actual maneuvers done right was not that hard in the F-5. Something like the Harrier is a real challenge :)
Try for 2D 90% of the content. Maybe throw some 3d B-roll footage here and there.
Noted :)
GO 2D, its definitely better. :)
Copy that :)
What means VR and 2d ?
2D better with track IR
I'd prefer 2D, VR is too shaky and too small
Noted, thanks :)
2d is for sure better because VR is too shaky and low quality
Noted :)
