Recorded on Saturday June 3, 2017.
"Please join us for a ride on one of the greater Washington area’s true treasures! Installed at Glen Echo Park in 1921, the canopy and the carved figures were made by the Dentzel Carousel Company of Germantown, Pennsylvania. It is a classic example of hand woodcarving popular during the early 1900s. From 1983 through 2003, the entire carousel was fully restored. The carousel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places."

    Omigawd!
    Instant very happy nostalgia trip!
Thank you sooooooo very very very much for sharing this!
My mom was born in 1926, and she grew up, riding on this beautiful machine. I came along in 1949, and I 'lived' on it, as often as I could.
I'm so very glad that it was restored. It would have been a shame to just let this beauty die.
I no longer live in Maryland, so I can't actually go and ride it any more, but I really appreciate this opportunity to 'virtually' take one last ride.
Thank you so very much, again, for sharing this little treasure!

This is great, so very great! Looks like the original animals perfectly restored, crankshafts look like new (from what I can tell in the video), the restored Wurlitzer band organ makes it all come to life transporting one back to those times! Just look at that artwork, those mirrors, the lights, it doesn't get any better than this! I want to be on that carousel - and I am 54 years old! I want to be a kid again, and live near a carousel like this. There 's another video of this machine where the band organ is playing 'Start The Day Right', a great historical piece of music.

G Jensen No question, Dentzel made absolute drop dead gorgeous carousels! I am lucky enough to live just minutes away from the biggest - and most beautiful - Dentzel ever built, the 4 abreast 1926 model at Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh. Takes my breath away every time I see it and I see it quite often!

I've viewed several videos of the Kennywood Dentzel you alluded to! I'm planning on travelling to see both of these carousels. Glad to see some of these being preserved, the likes of those horse carvers are not likely to be seen again.

The band organ here, if anyone is wondering, is a Wurlitzer 165.

Most certainly indeed. It's now over a century in age!
This carousel certainly reflects a much better and happier human age as it was built in those times, when humans made PROPER things and when everything wasn't always centralized to money and essentials unlike how everything is in such a terrible age as today's age...
