- A tutorial on how to replace your BMW #n46 VVT Valvetronic Servo motor. Found on E46 models (N42) Z4 E85, 3 series E90, 1 Series E87, this is a common problem on 4 Cylinder BMW models.
First time to my channel? I'll be posting BMW, Mini video's every week.
Currently working on my E61 5 Series, Mini Cooper S and a few more potential projects over the coming weeks/months.
Stay tuned! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I hope this helps anyone with their issue, let me know below if you have any questions. Give me a shout! 👍
where are the error codes
Hello guys, thanks for the nice video. I've got an X3 with N46 engine giving me a number of errors that I believe are related to VANOS. 2A5a 2a5b 2a6b 2a67 etc. I guess it could be the eccentric sensor, the motor you just replaced, the magnetic ring or all of the above. My question is if it can be a definitive answer for what needs to be replaced according to which error and if any kind of reset via INPA is required post replacement. Thanks in advance,
I when inserted the VVT motor, I turned it counter clockwise and the shaft moved. Car runs and after 2 days, error back again and car just crank and wont start. Should i moved it counter clockwise more to initialise properly?
Is this the same for a e89 z4 2015 , my normal garage I use couldn’t fix it & another bmw specialist garage told me that I had to take the car to main dealership cause he couldn’t fix it ?
Is necesary program the new valvetroni with
scanner ???
This engine is quite frustrating, to change the valvetronic system the parts are relatively affordable but the fact that you need to take the whole valve cover off is what costs so much. The fuel savings you get from the system ends up slapping you bright back in the face in repairs 😂😂
Just about to do this to my Mrs’s N46 Z4, however I’ve been told you should turn the ignition on to position 2, and wait 10 seconds after installing the new motor as it sets the position of the new one?
@Mitch From The Internet That’s correct, it’s a does a cycle and puts it into the ‘home’ position. Sorry, didn’t make that clear in the vid! :)
@@FuelledLife No worries pal, appreciate you coming back, I’m still waiting for some clear weather anyway. 🤣 I’ve also heard conflicting reports of the fine tuning of the motor after installation, did you guys have to with INPA?
How do you turn the ignition into position 2?
@@joseritoruacho8508 it’s a bit complex, you need a key and a hand.
You have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the second click.
If you have any trouble, there are probably some vids on CZcams.
Do i need to relearn or calibrate the valvetronic motor or its just plug n play?
You should self test/recab. See this helpful link. www.bimmerfest.com/threads/valvetronic-motor-calibration.1017945/
@@FuelledLife someone said in that forum " Basically you reconnect everything, turn the car ON (don't start engine), and wait. You should here the car going through the "self test/calibration" on the valvetronic motor. Wait about 30 seconds and turn the car off. Next restart everything should be ready." Is this true?
What software are you using to scan??
Hi Sam, I’m using Ista+. Cheers for watching!
Did the valvetronic cause the catalytic fault too?
Don't think so?
Relearning the new valvetronic motor is not necessary?
This was a complex issue on the particular car in the end. I need to revisit this and give an update video! So I’m unsure exactly at the moment. Thanks for watching though! 👍
Need to relearn
Hi i have the same motor my e46 318i
Sound like a diesel , is not the chein did you have a email i can send you video of this 🤯🤯 i need help 🙏
Had a e46 318i with the N42 that sounded like a diesel before, it turned out to be the VANOS units that snapped loose causing them to be stuck in the high rpm position. That caused a diesel sound while idling and normal sounds while doing 3000+ rpm's.
Hope this helps!
Nice is very helpful, but I have the code p1050 and p1062, I don't know if is the same problem.
It could possibly be! Recommend putting it on a more sophisticated diagnostics reader though as it would tell you more than just generic codes which would help massively!
@@FuelledLife i have remplaced the valvetronic and it's work ;-) after install no update needed, just install and that's it. thanks for all ;-)
@@XpDark amazing news! Glad you got it sorted. Hope you go out and get to enjoy some trouble free driving now! Cheers for watching. 👍😁
@@XpDark the servo motor? i have the same problem and codes.. car goes to limp mode, is it possible to clean the valvetronic motor?
@jermu. You can't take it apart you have to replace it, best bet is to buy a used one from a low mileage e90 if you don't want to spend a fortune.
