In reality, both Capitalism and Socialism are deeply flawed systems on their own, and no, one isn't better than the other. They are both so easy to take advantage of. That's why the rest of the developed world uses a mixed system. There's still private ownership, competition, and free market, but there are also regulations to prevent the people from being taken advantage of, and public services that are offered to give everyone an equal starting place. If you really want to know how badly Capitalism is working right now, take into account that America has the highest GDP (worldpopulationreview.com/countries/countries-by-gdp) and 2nd in Purchasing Power, but ranks 17 in quality of life, 31 in Health Care, and 22 in Cost of Living (www.numbeo.com/quality-of-life/rankings_by_country.jsp). That's embarassing. To be so rich and so powerful and yet not beat other nations in basic services? How shameful. The one good thing is we rank 2nd in Property Price to Income Ratio. A house costs about 5x your annual salary on average. This isn't good, mind you. It's just we happen to not be as bad as other places. Which says a lot. The fact is, most other developed nations have single-payer healthcare. It doesn't remove the option to have private healthcare. It only means you get basic care and can pay for extra if you need it. Medicine is cheaper. Doctors are cheaper. Most major operations are cheaper. Ambulances don't cost you the arm it saved you. People who depend on insulin aren't deciding to just risk death for the next 2 weeks because their insurance decided half a month supply is good (I worked in pharmacy for a few years. This was a common occurance. Hell, had a lady get diagnosed with cancer and her insurance denied coverage of all her medicine and most of her treatment costs. She fought it. They told her to fuck herself. Her lawyer said back at you and won. The lawsuit she won? it went to the fucking lawyer and court fees.) Yes, sometimes you have to wait for non-life-threatening treatments. That's not the problem you think it is. You can get into regular doctor's visits as easy as you can here, and you make the next one while you are there, so that's not an issue. Life-threatening issues are dealt with immediately. Reports of the contrary are fully bullshit. Look at Switzerland. A liberal utopia (even though they are pretty balanced in terms of 'liberal' and 'conservative'. Keep in mind neither of their parties falling neatly into our system). Stomps everyone in Quality of Life, Cost of Living, and Purchasing Power. 16 in Health Care. Houses cost more with 17 in Property Price to Income, but with everything else, it ends up being a better deal. You can't deny the facts that are in front of you. our system is broken because we rely too much on Capitalism without any sort of regulation, and nobody gets any sort of guarenteed coverage in life.
