Thank you Brian S. for the clip! - Sport
Something you'll never see again. Two professional bowlers, two bowling balls!
Big fan of classic bowling matches here. I remember the year Billy Hardwick was practically unbeatable. Sad to see him struggling here with his arthritis and sore thumb. Thanks for posting these great old memories!
R.I.P., Billy. You will be missed.
i would give my nuts to go back in a time machine to 1976.......maybe the greatest time in the pba with so maybe great stars and the mark roth era coming soon!!!!
It was a great era for America in general. However, today's bowlers would eat those guys alive.
I never realized until now how Marshall looks like Angus Young of AC/DC.
And as the legend goes, that was the last time that anyone saw Marshall Holman smile.
Hardwick has a short backswing and really gets down low on his slide. Reminds me of certain Don Carter delivery.
Did Billy Hardwick go shopping with Guppy Troup the day before?
Thanks for uploading this. I noticed in Bo's commentary that Mr. Hardwick apparently won the prior week.
Please keep these great old vids coming! Thanks again.
Wow does Holman look different here! Sports original bad boy! Loved it
I wish I had some Roy Buckley. The further in time we go back (especially before VCR's), the harder it is to get these tapes.
Chris Schnekel called a lot of sports in his long career, including boxing, college football, and NBA basketball (including several Finals), but he's best remembered as The Voice Of Bowling.
Really not true, if your old you remember him as the voice of the Football Giants!!
Lately, I've been modeling my game after Hardwick, especially for my spare shots. Thanks for the inspiration, Billy.
Marshall Holman looked completely different back then. Lol
He actually had hair 🙂
These two men had two of the longest slides on tour...
I sure miss the split screen, bowler on one side pins on the other.
Hardwick sporting a Ernie Schlegel starter kit.
wow, they had hippies even in bowling back then.
Excellent
I wonder what Marshall said at 3:15 ?
BTW, this is a great rare OLD video in its entirety! THANK YOU for sharing...
I can’t remember Holman ever having that much hair. Must be a youngster on this show. OR, is that a wig?
@mariocyrascoll - he said the bucket was on the right lane...which is the lane he was bowling on at that time...
what? No spare balls? I guess you really had to know how to bowl back then
Spare balls were not needed. Rubber balls on wood was a very low traction game. Nobody ever even comprehended a spare ball back then.
I wore the same shirt, same color as Marshall Holman when I was bowling in leagues back then.
Well, that makes me incredibly happy to hear that he still bowls. I've read that he's been battling horrible arthritis, and that the prednisone treatment made him put on some weight. How's his health? Does he ever consider bowling senior tour?
The hair... Classic
Strange to see a time when Holman had hair!
@Cletus Anfernee Jackson Don't be a hater, Marshall has mellowed
3:48 Bo said he threw a 'memorial double' ...lol
113,840.51 in today’s dollars
any chance of getting some old roy buckley? love what you've done, anything from the mid 70's from the better bowlers would be great!!!
Was this Hardwick's last tv appearance? I know he retired shortly afterwards.
Marshall Holman...which Bee Gee was he?
If you've watched any of Chris Hardwick's All Star Celebrity Bowling, you can see he has a very similar delivery to his father.
Holman was always an AH. (IMHO) Remember when he kicked the foul light unit off the approach ?!
Nice pants, Billy.
Is that Gary Dickinson sitting off to the right with the bowling glove on his hand?
nope. Somebody else
Yes it is.
Yes, he was the alternate
I didn't know Robin Gibb was a professional bowler!?
Commentators:
Chris Schenkel & Nelson Burton, Jr.
Wow. Marshall Holman with hair!!!
Check out the 1974 NJ Open, Marshall's first time on TV
What in the fuck were alleys thinking with those ball returns!?
If arrogance had needed a new definition, just look at Marshall Holman.
Yup
Impressive Most Impressive
but without the crooked backswing
@MarioCyrascoII He said right LANE.
Wow, only 2 bowling balls on the rack.
Wow, Marshall used to have hair!
The way people dressed back in the 70s made drug tests redundant XD
Is it me, or does a young Marshall Holman remind everyone of a young Jackie Earle Haley (LOL)??? Speaking of which, I’d love to see the Farrelly Brothers cast Jackie Earle as a potential rival based on Holman for Roy in a possible ‘Kingpin’ sequel. I’d also like to see Matthew Brodeick be cast as an ally based upon Parker Bohn as well, especially since Bohn has since shaved off his mustache and looks like a virtual twin for Broderick...
Or they could just have Marshall Holman play an older Rorschach.
True test of skills-
Having only 1 ball each
Holman is responsible for Weber`s attitude.
They need to take the shirt from Marshall and combine it with Billy's pants and bowl with some chicka-chicka boom-boom porno music in the back ground.
I think Marshal was stoned. At least he didnt kick out the foul light.
Holman's shirt isn't much better....
Man, my dad & I both hated Holman.
I worked a couple of pro tour in roch I seen
Marshalls girl friend she could walk in a bank an they will turn the cameras off
Munson v McCracken
Marshall choked but got away with it
Hardwick didn’t exactly throw good shots in the 9th and 10th either. Would love to see video of his win the previous week.
Holman bowled terrible and got lucky to win.
203 is a decent game, someone won a major with a 160s game
Why was the 1970s so damn hairy and scary back then...and WTF is with those pants!
Because it was the 1970s.
when marshall had hair..
