This has to be one of the most exciting Superyacht projects in the world right now. Taking an existing supply and rescue ship, up cycling the parts that no longer can be used, and building on the existing structure. ICON YACHTS, who brought us "RAGNAR" now treat us to a totally new project!
I love this new trend of taking tired old workhorses and giving them a new start and a new life. For me, this is what super yachting should be all about, exploring the globe in the ultimate luxury, not just posing in Monaco for a couple of weeks a year. If I had the money, this is what I'd do.
Agreed, great post.
I also agree, the new yachts have no soul
Couldn't have said it better myself. 100%.
Super yachts have huge carbon footprints. They consume 20, 30, or more gallons per mile. They contribute to climate change and the destruction of the planet, stronger hurricanes, more drought, more wildfires, famine, malnourished and dying children, to name a few. I hope they all sink (and no one is injured).
@@bigmuscles250lbs Just do it better. No reason sails can't be used and updated to a truly modern standard with automatic rigging. You just maintain the pulleys and stuff in the same way you would previously maintain an engine. Not to mention solar panels for lower speed cruising.
Regular follow-ups on the progress of this project would be fantastic. Come on Mr New Conversion Yacht Owner, we're as excited about this as you are, let us come along for the journey!
I hope you turn this into a series. I’d love to see the whole build. 🎉
+1 Agreed. Land locked Vail, Colorado
This is the most bad ass thing I have ever seen 🇺🇸
Good to see a commercial vessel repurposed rather than potentially scrapped. Looking forward to further updates
This channel is quickly starting to be a 'must watch' as soon as it pops up in my feed. Simply incredible. As a side-not, it is funny how Icon Yachts take an old ship and transform it into something modern and amazing. There is an auto company in LA called Icon as well, and they take old vehicles and re-imagine them into a more modern and luxurious experience. I can't afford to buy from either company, but I definitely do appreciate the expertise, vision and sheer artistry that goes into these 're-imaginings'.
Money no object, Icon would be where I would go. Not that I'd be big into exploring, but I like the no nonsense look of an explorer and like the idea of a massively strong, seaworthy vessel rather than a frou frou gin palace.
You really stepped up your game on this one, David! Beyond excellent; I'm excited about what happens with these two projects!
+1 Agreed.
only one word: amazing !
You guys have really pushed yourselves to deliver this episode. I'm absolutely blown away by the 3D graphics and how they are woven into the presentation and storytelling. Well done! Really enjoyed this and I'm now looking forward to following this project keenly! Top job, David and Icon Yachts!
It would be really cool if they would set up a web cam 24/7 on this project. I would tune in definitely.
Having seen an oilfield supply vessel in action in the South China Sea during a typhoon a few decades ago, I have enormous confidence in their stupendous abilities. Notable memories involve the Smit Lloyd 101 rearing out of the waves on full power to time her passing with a helicopter landing on the bucking deck of a barge (in case it went over the side). They’re great, even more so the latest supply vessels. But even when converted, it would be good to honour the sturdy pedigree by avoiding the term ‘yacht’ however fancy they are! Better to think of them as luxurious working boats - and be proud of their tough origins.
What a uncreditable undertaking... Looking forward to seeing the progression of this transformation.
Hold on Ragnar, I think I might be falling in love again!
It's so nice! I love the helicopter pad. Going diesel/electric was a great idea 💡
What an amazing Video! Thank you David for making this possible!
Yes yes glad to see u back at icon and more upscaling old vessels for super that’s like Ragnar thank u so much and it’s awesome to see just how bizzy u have become keep them coming our friend 😊
I could literally feel his excitement about this project as he did the walk through... I have to admit this is a pretty sick project I hope you update us as things progress.
it's great because David is very obviously a HUGE boat geek and also seems like a genuinely nice dude.
This is such an exciting project!! What an extraordinary mission that has been undertaken. It'd be great to see a mid-way update and then a final finished product report. Please keep us posted!
This is a fantastic video.
Thank you for sharing this incredible build and please share that appreciation with the ship yard and owners of the vessels for allowing the ship and future plans to be shared
I have never seen such a tech in maritime propellers. WoW ☺
excellent making of the video! Great camerawork, cutting and B-Roll! also nice moderation
THIS IS MY DREAM ❤️❤️
Best conversion video I've seen yet. Thanks.
Interesting , Thank You . Good to see there fine work horses repurposed . I hope can return soon
Just when you thought the people at Icon had pulled out all the stops to turn Sanaborg, built as an ice breaking multi-purpose support supply vessel in to the luxury vessel Ragnar,
Here we are again watching this renowned shipyard in the Netherlands take on yet another epic challenge,
Turning another working ship in to a luxury vessel, it takes recycling / upcycling to a different level,
Hopefully David, Icon will invite you back and we can follow the progress of this and possibly the “other” build, unfold as we did with Ragnar,
With your impeccable standards, for detail and your team of videographers, this will once again become a must watch build as did Ragnar.
Thank you David, and thank you to all involved at Icon Yachts for this incredible insight in to the world of luxury shipbuilding and sailing, one can only dream of ?
I'm absolutely fascinated with this whole process. What a dream come true to have the money to create something like this for yourself to enjoy!
now this is dope
Fascinating, look forward to seeing it come to fruition! Thank you.
Wow what a great "money no object" project, its great to see how the architects and engineers work together to breathe new life into these "old" commercial ships.
Good to see your energy and enthusiasm too, great video guys.
Thanks very well done .. especially the owners for being so forward thinking
This aspect of marine engineering is one that fascinates me, so you can imagine just how delighted I was to discover your video!
These Rescue and Supply vessels are outstanding in their own right and form an excellent base for such a conversation.
I'm really pleased to subscribe and follow this transformation.
Oh, LOVED this! Please please let's see more of this project, AND the next similar one! I'm always torn between building a neo-classic yacht, or converting a commercial ship such as these, as I have a huge soft spot for both (and little fondness for the traditional 'white yachts'). Questions? How much time do you have? I want to know it ALL 😄
I really hope this becomes a series where you periodically do update videos so we can see before, along the way, and after, etc.
What a smart project. Can't wait to watch the next video to follow the progress.
I worked on this ship before, great ship with a great crew
Keep us updated! I really enjoyed this!
I hope this leads to lots of build updates 🤞
would love to have this be a multipart series!!
Me too!
This is my kind of yacht
Hi David. As with Ragnar, Icon can achieve the transformation to make this vessel into a stunning explorer. These can standby to a rig with the precise dynamic positioning. I'm excited to see the series of the build from Icon and the launch. Cool video thanks 😊
what a build!. it woud be great to get the old crew back to see what they think of her new life. 2x👍
I can't wait to see the finished product when it's completely done
Really happy to have discovered your channel, good in depth technical stuff!
Your editing .... WOW!!! stunning .... how do you only have 5.76K subs.... truly amazing!!! I can only hope to be 1% as good as you...
Thanks so much for your kind words. My other channel "Yachts For Sale" has a few more subs...this is a relatively new channel.
I look forward to you following this project though to it's completion.
Also I like how you explain everything. You are amazing !!!!!! I am taking notes for the future.... :)))))))
incredible........ a feast for the eyes. david you are making some fantastic videos. would love to see follow ups on this vessel and would love to see more of this type of video. once again, WOW
I cannot imagine the cost. Super Cool David.
Such an exciting project David , I really hope you get the opportunity to document to full build I have the feeling it's going to be epic!
Mind blowing video. I Davy wait to see the next one ☝️
Very interesting, thanks for sharing
Large search & rescue boats as such have always intrigued me given their ruggedness & agility. I'm a Toyota Land Cruiser kind of guy so I've always gravitated towards them. For years now I'd slowly drift away and day dream about refurbishing one of these vessels every time I lay my eyes on one. It makes so much sense -- and may very well be the springing of a whole new market sector that speaks to the likes of myself and the two obviously awesome owners! Thanks for the video.
There needs to be more of this method of reusing the old.
I love your uploads.
I wish you all the best.
Good luck my friend.
Fantastic story fantastic content! I really wish we get to see the progress of this vessel!
Can't wait to see more of this project. Also, enjoy how you tell stories. Subbed and belled 😀⭐
It's amazing seeing Offshore vessels being converted and not scapped ,I've worked on errv vessels for 20 years plus and can say they are the safest vessels out there
They are now private boats for the worst most private people. It's hardly better thank sinking them for a reef.
@@milolouis Better that than more raw resources mined, refined and transformed into the hull the owner wants anyway. Refitting old vessels is green because of the energy and pollution involved in resource extraction.
what an ambitious project, looking forward to seeing updates.
Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much.
I gave you a follow to find out how she turns out.
Very well done 👏!
Sounds absolutely amazing and really look forward to your next update on this build, would love to see the sea trials, good luck Regards Errol in South Africa 🇿🇦
The review is on style!! good job Guys!
A Proper project! Old bows with a new life!
Brilliant, loved every minute I have an engineering background
What a great channel, glad I found you! And what an amazing project, look forward to seeing it develop. I briefly worked on a 32m tug with Voith propulsion, it gave the vessel a rather unusual motion. The delivery trip in fact gave the chief engineer his first ever bout of seasickness in his 40 year career!
Cool project !!
Wonderful and informative video and VERY cool vessel
Awesome! I live closeby, cool to see you at the yard I drive past almost everday, thanks for sharing and letting me have a look from this point of view
+1 for the extraordinary sound edit & music on this one! Volume max on headphones!
I would love to see an hour long documentary on the entire process, from start to finish.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful 😊👍
You’ve always admirably had the gift of the gab, as it were, and its made your videos a pleasure to watch but, this is really exciting and interesting stuff- looking forward to updates and seeing this build develop. Keep them coming.. I did once ask about the models of these yachts that I see in all the boat shows and sales offices etc - would it be worth an episode on where/howetc these are made?
An thorough follow-up on this project would be massively appreciated! . . . 🇳🇴👍
I love these explorer yachts which are commercial vessels reborn. Amazing. I would feel very safe in one of these.
Awesome video !
I’m curious about how much more efficient the new power/propulsion systems will be compared to when this was a commercial boat. It would be interesting to see real numbers about how the displacement has changed from when it was running heavy with supplies to what it will be after all the new metal is added.
@Tim Nissen
I lack any knowledge to dispute your claim...
Amazing video
WOW exciting times indeed, for the Yachting World as for you to be able to be in the middle of it all reporting Ragnar Style. I am sure my Dutch compatriots will invite you to do the reporting
I can see a collaboration with Damen shipyards on the horizon. Damen is known for pre-producing these sea gong vessels and at the moment they have building capacity available. The yachting trend is definitely gone in a direction where size is no longer leading, but what you can do with the vessel and this opens up the pre production of these yachts. Damen builds the hull and the technical installation, Icon (and others) finish it off.
Let's see where we go in the near future, but so far a very interesting story.
Wow, I stumbled accross your channel. Super interesting and well produced video. You have a new subscriber👍
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle bishes! Love this idea too many ships rot away that just need a little tlc.
True.
Thank you
Very cool and looking forward to seeing this progress…hint hint :)
Amazing
hope u get to see the end result , and we also get to see it , sounds amazing
Verry cool to Use older Material Safley , a ship how existe before very Cool idee an very beautifull the new Ship . Respect 😉😉
I saw about this on The Yacht Channel. I don't know what shipyard he works for, but he made it sound like he arranged for the sa,e and transfer of these 2 boats and he has done this a couple times.
For only another 50-100 million dollars it should be a nice little boat
Awesome Vid. I was wondering how the repair all the dented hull planking on the outside? Thks
I definitely would enjoy follow up videos on both these ships! My question for you is, how will they clean the floors and walls in the room at 8:02? Do they sandblast, power wash or use some laser removal technique? Do they remove a layer and replace it? I can't imagine it being left like that for a luxury yacht.
Thanks for the video!
If you could document the whole build it would have millions of views.
incredible work in progress the ships future
Looks massive and superior.
I would like to see the progress it is an amazing project.
More old, strong, well designed, engineered and built ships should be turned into yachts. Save them from the horribly disrespectful and environmentally damaging way ships are scrapped.
As an added bonus, most look gorgeous.
This is another great reason to go with a Conversion!
we need follow up videos of this amazing build !
Looking forward to regular follow-ups on progress. And would love to see the finished product.
@Scott,
A series of videos about this propulsion.
Can we presume the 'hotel' aspects will duplicate any other floating home... and that is hardly worth hearing about.
I’d be interested in knowing if they will be fitting any stabilization system or sticking with GT as the chosen method. Very interesting and cool project.
I thought about this yesterday. I thought it would be amazing to refurbish decomissioned coast guard ships and turn them into yachts and now I see it's actually being done already.
How am I only seeing this now? I'm asleep in the wheelhouse.
