- Previously the PowerA Spectra had my endorsement as the best budget Xbox controller, and it took years for it to be knocked from it's throne. This $40 wired Xbox controller sports mechanical face buttons identical to Razer, and 2 very comfortable rear buttons which can be remapped on the fly. This controller also has well calibrated ALPS thumb sticks in my testing, just don't overclock this gamepad past 500 hz or it will become unstable on PC.

Important note regarding the circularity (got this controller today):
By default the controller comes with the "raw mode" for the sticks enabled (even though it appears disabled when you first open the software)
The raw mode turns the circularity + deadzone profile to what was shown in this video's circularity test.
If you turn raw mode off, the circularity test shows an almost perfect 0.4% error for both sticks.
Seconding this; mine just arrived and when tested right out of the box, the circularity test showed 10% error rate across both sticks, brought down to 0.4% after enabling then disabling "Raw mode".
What is raw mode exactly? I dont see any option to enable or disable it in the app
I made an effort to describe each step in as detailed of a manner as possible to ensure you don't get lost anywhere. If you find yourself lost while following these directions, there's a chance you installed the wrong software.
Open the software, press "Profiles", press "Configure" on whichever one you'd like to use and switch to the "Sticks" tab at the top of the software. You'll see one slider for each joystick named "Left Stick", "Right Stick"; right underneath those you will see a red line with "balls" on each end. These can be dragged around to adjust the deadzone, and dragging the right-end "ball" all the way to the right will enable "Raw mode". And as previously stated, do that once, then drag the right-end "ball" back down to 100 and you should see the aforementioned 0.4% error rate.

@@Mr.-NIGHTMARE-88 yeah, it's slightly smaller, but very close to stock. Triggers also have a bit shorter pull than an xbox one controller.
Overall, I've been using it alot. Also paired it with the scuff universal thumbstick on the right.
If, like me, you think the xbox one controller is a great size/shape. This will be comfortable.

Thanks for the review! Did you test the rumble, though? For example, some controllers are known to have loud rumble. I guess you would have mentioned if it wasn't fine.
It seems the Microsoft controllers' bumpers remain superior for fingertip clickers. I wonder if I could get used to the feel of the back buttons as I don't want any. The Elite Series 2 was perfect for me but their QC is piss poor.
Have a GameSir T4W for 2+ years now and have no issue with it. The right trigger stopped working recently but after a tear down and a good clean it went back as new.
I've had this controller for about 3 weeks now and its an amazing controller..my only issue is that kontrol Freeks legs (must use ps4/ps5 versions) effectively stress the plastic of the face plate and cause it to squeak pretty loudly when pressing the l3 button forward .
My Turtle Beach Recon Controller's USBC port have become too unreliable with almost constant disconnects.
I am aware of the replacement fix, but it's not something I can do.
After watching several reviews by your good self I have just ordered the G7 & I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces, many thanks for these reviews, they have helped me tremendously, cheers dude, 😎👍👍

The great thing about swapping faceplates is you could stick Elite Series thumbsticks on this. Game-changer for me
I noticed this the other night and immediately bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and like you said it's a game changer. It made an almost perfect controller even better.

This is simply one of the best Xbox controllers at any price point. Awesome review - and i agree, if it had even PowerA style trigger stops it would be a 5/5 and possibly the best controller available. I just ordered the special edition (with Hall effect sticks) don't have it yet but i'm pumped for that. Apparently, it sacrifices the mechanical face buttons for standard membrane though. I suppose i'll use the SE for shooters and the OG G7 for everything else.
What should I get for fps if I really wanna guarantee being able to aim well for a long time having controller

Love this controller, wasn't sure I would after you explained the face buttons are clicky. I primarily play fighting games and this controller feels far quicker and more precise than my stock Xbox, Elite 2 and Wolverine Ultimate. Thanks for your in depth review!

Do you know which kontrol freak is compatible with the joysticks ps or xbox?
@@ikonicmedia6294 it's PS5 kontrol freek but since you can pull the faceplate off you can also pull the thumbsticks off totally as well. I don't like the hybrid concave/convex thumbsticks so I bought some xbox concave thumbsticks and now the almost perfect controller is even better.

Love your review as always. Unfortunately I had a dodgy one that decided to do its own thing. I had a sticky left trigger, left trigger would either shoot or do what it’s supposed to do in any shooting game. Left stick wad dodgy too, by not moving down my apps on my Home Screen. It was the most terrible controller I have ever owned. I daren’t try another as it put me well off. I done the update for it and cleared any profiles that May had been on there.

thanx for another good review. Interesting to see these features popping up more and more in budget friendly controllers. Yes it's only 2 buttons and no physical stops, but if these companies can bring those features to newer controllers at a lower price than Razer, Aim, battlebeaver, Xbox, etc currently have, that will, according to economics, bring the price down on other brands or maybe these guys, victrix, nacon and the 8bitdos will be more popular and sought after. Totallly agree it is way better to have physical trigger stops, unless you're conscious of every trigger pull you do, you will go too far some times which defeats the purpose for speed since it takes longer for the return for the next pull (but she might like it)
I have the controller, the software hair triggers actually deactivates as long as you are "releasing" the trigger it doesn't have to go all the way up. I see no reviewers reviewing this excellent smart feature thoroughly yet, its actually supper smart and its as fast as a physcial stop, if not, even faster.
true controller like this, power a etc been rlly pushing the limit at 100 dollar price points, tbh i hope some of the bigger ones like scuff feel the pressure

I have a gamesir I bought as a throw away a few years back and other than being a little too light for me, I like their brand.
GameSir just released a new controller using Hall effect sticks. It's called T4 Kaleid. Maybe you can make a video about this one,too.
Wish you do GameSir G7dissembly video, would really like to see what's inside and is it repairable. Also does it really has hall effect analog sticks.
My jaw hit the floor when I saw a review show the face buttons AND d pad are both clicky mechanical and not membrane. I have one on the way, I hope it's good.

Great review I'll definitely look for these guys in the future. As a fellow 4 paddle/button man is there anything better than an elite 2? I love mine but the options also seem incredibly limited for a person who would actually want to use more than 1 paddle on a side at a time outside of that and that piece if crap powerA fusion I have collecting dust
PowerA feels cheap as fuck.. Elite 2.. I haven’t been lucky bought 4 all was somewhat faulty straight out of the box. I’m still trying to find a perfect controller.. Seems kinda impossible. I think ASUS will come out with one this year the raikiri pro. That looks pretty damn good imo.

Oooooh I'm always interested in controllers that occupy this price range. Hopefully this matches up well against the 8BitDo Xbox Ultimate. Looks like they use the same, flush buttons on the back. That's a small negative for me.

@gamerheaven Could you possibly comment on the stick height compared to a default Xbox controller? I am currently using the PDP rematch, and it has a taller stick height than the default Xbox. Was wondering if this was similar or if I'll "have" to use kontrol freaks?
I guess this beats the Turtle Beach Recon. For standard wired controllers the Turtle Beach Recon has been my favourite so far.
So just ordered this from Amazon, the first G7 controller I had the mic input jack didn't work. None of my headsets would actually sit flush with the input it felt like something was blocking it. However Amazon swapped it for free obviously and the 2nd one seems to be perfect so far no issues. It's by far the best feeling controller at the $45 range HOWEVER the USB C port is not universal the shell has a very small cut out. Just be aware of that if you damage the cable! The cable that comes with it is very nice though. In this price range the G7 and PDP Rematch or new Afterglow are the best value.
I need a new controller fore a while but have not been able do pick one haha. My sticks are loose and screaming with stick drifts. I think this G7 will be the one. So many other controller looks fancy with light and stuff, that its just silly. I dont care about look but the performance. Good thing is technology have moved rapidly the last years, so controller at this price range are good.

The newish PDP rematch controller is very similar to this. mechanical switches and friction rings might give this an edge though.
PDP rematch might have a different slight edge in slight overclock ability with a similar stock performance.

This is the third or fourth controller review I've seen from your channel and honestly it will probably be the last for awhile which isn't for any negative reason, you're actually very informative and occasionally funny with nonbiased opinions, but because you've helped me solidify my decision on the next controller I invest in.
I've been using Xbox controllers for decades and felt like my whole world changed when I discovered a controller with rear buttons on PowerA but eventually had issues with the joystick developing horrible deadzone. Switched to the Ultimate wired 8BitDo and again ran into issues with the joystick where it would activate when not being touched so I fell back on a Voyee knock off 360 controller which has been reliable but doesn't provide the rear buttons that I've come to love.
If they launch a wireless version I will buy one
Bought one of these after watching your review a couple months ago was working great loved the controller but for some reason it just won’t work on PC or Xbox it’s just being detected as a usb drive and not a controller and I’ve tried troubleshooting as much as possible but apparently no one else has this issue
I really like my PDP Rematch. I use it over my razer, elite, and power A. It has zero stick drift, perfect stick tension and height, and great rear paddles.
This looks interesting, but the sticks look slightly worse than the PDP one.
How are those PDP controllers? The cheaper powera ones always feel off in the analog sticks lol

I got a pdp rematch to hold me off until Sony releases theirs and I actually really liked it Lmao if only they had a ps5 layout I’d actually use it, was only $25 or something. I used it for over a month and 0 stick drift. I did notice they were more stiff compared to ps5 thumbsticks but I really liked the back paddles
does anyone know if the controller drifts after less than 3 months in, every single power A controller ive bought will literally get the same stick drift on the left stick without fail
A question for ya'll. I playe Hades which requires my right thumb just pressing abxy all the time. so I have this pain in the first joint of my thumb. do you think this controller could help maybe rest my right thumb more horizontally? any other controllers?
AK40Kevin does review of several different controllers that feature the 4 remappable buttons on the back that might work for you. Keep you thumbs on the sticks as much as possible and you should have less pain.
Is it possible to remap M1 and M2? NOT for the same buttons. there is no need to map A to M1 when there is an A button...
Does anybody know of a USB C cable that fits fhis controller? I'd love a link to one. I wish Gamesir would update the design of the USB C port or sell their own cable at least.

How well does the headphone Jack perform? I’ve recently gone through two separate Power A wired co trollers and both had issues with the headphone plug In (the headphones worked perfectly fine on my stock wireless Xbox series s controller) so im trying to figure out if this is a better option

Just received my G7 from Amazon. Love EVERYTHING about it except for the fact that mine was faulty out of the box.... the LB (left bumper) button is being activated 24/7 lol. Pressing LB SOMETIMES disables it, but pressing it again activates it and STAYS activated.
*Sigh* just when I finally found the perfect controller... but there's still hope - I'll just exchange it.

love this controller but was anyone else's audio jack super tight? I'm certain I broke something inside when pushing my headset in but everything is working fine for now this was also a replacement for the first one I bought because of the same issue but
I didn't push my headset into that one as I thought it was just built wrong. Could it be possible I got two bad controllers and just got lucky I didn't break the audio jack besides a small piece of plastic when I forced it in?
mine was a little tight the first few insertions, but once it was broken in it was perfect. that whole sentence was about the controller btw lol
