Saria's Song ft. Adam Neely - Contemporary Jazz Orchestra Cover (The 8-Bit Big Band)

- The incredible mind, musician, and bass player Adam Neely is featured in this floaty contemporary re-harmonized version of "Saria's Song" from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64! Also known as the Lost Woods theme, this is one of video game music's most all time recognizable melodies and fan favorites! When Adam agreed to be a special guest on this track, I knew I had to arrange something that would take his fingers all over the fret board of the electric bass to show off his immense versatility. Hope you enjoy!!
Also just to say it, this video was recorded over a year and a half ago well before the age of COVID! So no worries about safety

Dude I remember hearing this at the Sony Hall show and being blown away that anyone would dare arrange Saria’s Song and blow it up with such great orchestration and harmonization chops! You’ve definitely taken this one to your own level haha... level 11 jazz reharm spiciness
hey insane you ever collab with these guys?
@@thingsthatgobomb yes actually
Bout to say, I remember hearing this live for the first time too, completely knocked my socks off!
I'm a dyed in the wool Consouls Band fan who hardly ever listens to big band jazz but found 8BBB after Consouls covered Birdman and was also blown away. Brilliant arranging and performance.
Thanks man!!!
2:35 Adam's smirk at the almost licc loool
oh my god i hadn't noticed hahaha
I was listening for the licc and saw that too, haha.
Adam doesn't even need to play the licc anymore to make the joke
"It's dangerous to go alone, take this"
*hands over bass guitar*
Adam Neely: *desperately resists playing the licc for 5 hours straight*
I feel ashamed for listening to this without paying anything. Amazing work
Your boosting of the mysterious algorithm is payment enough :)
May I suggest... patreon?
@@The8BitBigBand Could you release the full score with individual parts? I'd gladly pay a handsome price for it.
@@The8BitBigBand But seriously, where can we buy these albums. I hate opening CZcams, and you deserve my money.
@@jackharvest1 you can buy all the albums on bandcamp
The bass is probably the most under rated lead instrument.
Very true. Interesting too that from Beatles to The Police/Sting to Snarky Puppy if the band is led by a bass player (McCartney, Sting, League) there's a good chance that they will be successful. I hope 8BBB follows the pattern!
@@cooldebt The band leader is a bass player in 8BBB lol
@@InsaneH Exactly - that's why I'm hoping they will follow the pattern :) (Also, Dan Chmielinski is great so in this tune they had 3 amazing bass players!). Actually I first came across this tune when The Consouls covered it)
"Heeey!! What a nice tune! Just like that, my depression is all gone! Something just came over me! I suddenly wanted to dance like crazy!" - Darunia
More likes please!!!!
whoever does the pixel art for this channel is insanely talented
YESSSSS they are gorgeous OWO
That's the great Jon Davies, or @sovanjedi on twitter!
"Bass Soloist"
This might be the only time I've ever seen this in my history of listening to music
Clearly you need to listen to more music!
Davie504 would not approve of this comment
explore more and you'll never be dissapointed
Listen to some jazz and you will find a lot of bass soloists. :)
2:34 Don't think you can sneak that licc past us, Adam
Sometimes you forget that Adam is a beast of a guitar and not just the guy who makes albums in 24 hours with his good friend Ben Levin
@@mymo_in_Bb a bass guitar is still a guitar
@@steveng6721 thats where your wrong buckaroo
Calling a BASS a gUitAr is disrespectful, especially since he's so good at it

This is such a novel take on the song. The warmer chords and the way you arranged the instruments to be dissonant from one another gave the song a more untamed feel, like you’re in an ancient, marshy forest covered with moss and you’re hearing the whole ecosystem at once.
As if the forest welcoming you. It is amazing really how to me its as if the the lost woods became a "fun" forest. Love it!
The latter third feels like what you’d get if the Lost Woods was a track in Mario Kart 8. I love it
Hey! Listen!
This cover is an absolute gem and I don’t want you all to ever forget that. You all keep surpassing my expectations at every turn and I cannot thank you all enough for making them.
Also bonus shoutout to Adam. Man’s a legend in his own right and that shows here.
true words
How?! I literally just finished my own Saria's Song cover and was gonna upload it tomorrow. After this and after you and insaneintherain uploaded Dire Dire Docks on the same day, I'm just convinced you're subliminally suggesting to all musicians to cover the same songs as you lol
Riding the video game music communities collective either I guess haha
Don’t worry i don’t have a saria’s song cover planned LOL
My dude, I've actually noticed this happening a lot recently in general within several of the music sub-communities of CZcamsrs😂; the world can seem pretty small sometimes, haha.
Welp, it's done :D
Figured I might throw it in here now that I've brought it up so here's my self-plug:
czcams.com/video/GmVRIj91DWQ/video.html
Still don't think it's as good as yours but I'm still really proud of it!
That dang owl came across the screen and I was like "no NO NOT AGAIN" and remembered it's just jazz, and we're good lol.
I'm a simple man, I see Adam, I click.
I see Adam, I LICC
I see Adam, I’m confused.
I’m a simple man, I see the 8bbb, I enjoy
4:27 I love that lil thing so much
I've never seen instrumentalists smile more than in this band.
Totally was appreciating that same thing!
Y’all are honestly amazing people. Never stop creating
agreed
When Ocarina of Time gets remade as a 70s cop/detective show, this is the opening and closing credits and all the incidental music rolled into one piece...
4:09 Goosebumps every time!! I can't help but smile listening to this cover
That the videos on this channel have so few views is incomprehensible. This is top quality stuff, from arranging, to playing, recording, and pixelart.
Agree 100%. I'm actually not a fan of big band music (I listen to these boys czcams.com/users/TheConsoulsBandvideos) but 8BBB is truly incredible - layers of brilliance here.
Kudos for being a bass player that gets featured to Adam Neely.
nah men literally the whole song is the best solo i've ever listened to
This definitely has a smooth jazz feel in some Hyrule cafe.
This arrangement makes it sound as though its the main theme to a movie about racing. Kinda gives off a Michael Giacchino vibe. I love it!
Papa bless the subtle trombone arrangement holding down the bottem end
When you stop completely at work to listen to the new song
Adam Neely is one hell of a mind and talent. Props to that whole beautifully gifted bunch!
Did I seriously just unironically enjoy a 5 minute bass solo?
😂😂Yeah and it was actually totally awesome
I've been listening to this on Spotify for the better part of 72 hours and I was like "god I need to see Bass God Neely perform this"
This is Mana.
2:34 I did NOT notice it until adam neely made that face. i had not noticed at all because you're a smooth bastard and put phrases with a similar rhythm before so it would be harder to notice but adam gave it away LMFAOOO i'm screaming right now
Your sprite artist is disgustingly wonderful and 50% why I keep coming back to your videos so fervently.
Awesome! I can't believe that you were able to elaborate so much on such a short song - and to reinvent it constantly for five whole minutes. It shouldn't come as a surprise anymore, but I was truly amazed. Thank you so much for all your work!
A bit old now but this has been my favourite cover to date. The Consouls also do amazing jazz VGM from duo to sextet. czcams.com/video/jSCWXO1o2EE/video.html
@@cooldebt I've only discovered them recently (obviously I loved it), I was surprised I had never heard of them before given the amount of work they put out.
This is what the Weather Channel in Hyrule plays during forecasts.
🤣😂🤣😂
Sweet baby Jesus, the absolute depth y'all added to what has become such a stale old sometimes cloying tune is astounding- you all revived this to new heights, I think this might be y'alls most impressive arrangement to date! Thank you all for all you do!
hey, don’t diss OG Saria’s Song, it’s a *classic*
This is the nerdiest music in so many ways, I love it.
This is the first video from the channel that I have seen.
I’m not disappointed!
Glad you're enjoying :)
We only play bangers here. I haven’t heard these people make anything less.
The video's setting make feel more comfortable by stop looking at saris song like a speed song on summer and more like a calm and relax autumn song
This is giving me chills up my spine and all the way up to the top of my head. Taking something from my childhood and amping it up so well while retaining all the nostalgia.
i love these Weather Report vibes
Why is this accurate???
I totally see it now
8 Bit Big band ft. Adam Neely??? this should become a holiday already!!! What a rendition guys!!! You really blew up this song in an outstanding way 🔥🔥
saria playing a bass guitar is something i had no idea i needed.
The smile of the girl with the violin at the door lights up the fucking room.
I just ADORE your strings arrangement hori sheeeet!
Thanks!! went string forward on this one more than the others for sure :)
Seriously though, how do you consistently exceed our expectations every time you upload a new video? Amazing work as always!
...also this was uploaded on 4/20 haha
4:09 the style and feeling you took here is awesome. Nice disco-y type phrase
I wish I could have as much fun as all of these guys are having
How on earth do you sit on music this good for A YEAR AND A HALF?! (Thanks for waiting until it was perfect, though...)
Never thought this frantic tune could work in such a calming arrangement- props!
one of my favorite songs and this just might be my new favorite version of it!
When I win the lottery I will hire this band to re-do the soundtrack to that obscure game from 1994 that no-one but me remembers.
8bbb + adam neely??? HELL YES
everybody gangsta until adam plays instead of analyses
I feel like I heard a St. Thomas quote in there? But omg this was fabulous!
Another banger song cover? Just what we all needed today 😍
Maaaaan what a trip, what you guys do at the 4:10 marks hit me right in the nostalgic feels. Absolutely amazing work.
You guys turned Saria's Song into the opening score of a mid-'90s-early-2000's family movie. I like it
CZcams's algorithm is definitely broken if my favorite youtuber is playing covering one of my favorite LOZ song and I only get it recommanded a year later....
That's great I love it!
Algorithm because this talent is seriously under appreciated
Yes!!
So amazingly mind-blowing. Every single person involved in creating this is top tier.
4:10 hell yes i love the driving triangle
3 random thoughts about this masterpiece:
1) It must be good if it makes the musicians smile.
2) Time to update my ringtone
3) When did Jason Biggs start playing sax?
I could never have expected this arrangement, and I love it. No one should be surprised that Charlie and company released another amazing cover
Absolutely in love with the way this starts.
And continues.
And ends.
And exists.
Bringing in Adam Neely, picking this song, you guys doing this arrangement, the stars have truly aligned
Good job Adam with the Musicking. Everyone here really takes this arrangement to a whole 'nother lever
I always get chills in some form when I listen to these jams, outstanding composition!
Stunning, as always. Thank you!
Great stuff! I look forward to future videos :)
I dont understand how every single video on here doesn't have millions of views each.
This is awesome, great take! ☺
Bravo! Getting some serious Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - "Stomping Grounds" vibes in the first few minutes of this piece.
THIS IS GOLD
I get the feeling I don't know enough about music to like this one...
dude... DUDE. From concept to execution, this is incredible!
This is so gooooood !
Thank you so much for the quality content you deliver with every upload
Been waiting for this video. Easily my favorite song on Album 3, possibly my favorite song you've ever done. The bass is just so juicy and THICC. Great job and amazing writing
THIS IS SO GOOOOD NOTHING BUT QUALITY FROM Y'ALL EVERY TIME
This is was amazing!!! Magical arrangement and it was good to hear Adam on it!
Commenting just to help it's visibility on the site. Terrific!!
OH YEAH this is absolutely amazing
The funk is mystical. I'm so proud of you guys in all that you do, whether N64 ost's are involved or not ♡
Astonishing arrangements.
Absolutely stunning, what wonderful work. My thanks and compliments to everyone who worked on the piece!
Hey, this made me smile c:
Great Job and Adam killing it.
The musicianship is outstanding. Great work!
THIS IS THE BEST THING IVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful
Such a gorgeous and inventive rearrangement! Thanks for working so hard to make and share it.
YAAAY! All the amazing people in one video!
This is gorgeous btw! Man, I needed this, really made my whole week! Nostalgia plus the memories of being in jazz bands.. :'D
This is amazing
Really love both arrangements, but can't shake the feeling of wanting to swap the vibe of song of storm for this one. This song, specially the intro and the bridge, gives me more the vibe of comming clouds. And song of storm gives me the vibe of inocense and festivity of the kokiri. But again, both masterfully done.
This goes so hard, lets go!
This is stunning. The arrangement keeps going into cool places from start to finish. Great performance. I like the foreground pixel animation, it's beautiful, doesn't get in the way and has this really nice color change through the whole video.
Incredible band, incredible artists, incredible arrangement.
I'm awestruck!
