- Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, who was found guilty of betting on games he officiated, recently gave an interview providing an insight into his life in the NBA. Donaghy became a referee following in his father's footsteps and after having two unsatisfactory jobs after college. After starting his officiating career in the minor CBA league, he got onto the NBA's training program, slowly working his way up to become a referee in the major league. He described his early years as challenging, facing harsh criticism from players and coaches. However, he persisted and eventually moved up the ranks, also referring in playoff games. His salary grew from $80,000 a year plus bonuses to $300,000 when he retired. Donaghy goes to detail his gambling and subsequent FBI investigation, which led to his prison sentence. To hear more, check out the full interview above.

So what did you think of this interview?
Can’t believe you pulled this off, you are truly a GOAT thanks Vlad
Excellent interview
It sucked. Vlad after someone tells him something “okay”” got damn dude say something else
It was a Fresh of Breathe Air
Need a reaction from Michael franscece and them
If you read between the lines….Tim says he could predict who would win bases on what the refs were told prior to the game by the NBA. IN OTHER WORDS the nba was telling the Refs who should win the game. That’s the NBA fixing games, not Tim.
Right😮
Great point like all the leagues are doing.
Absolutely right
True
That’s why people aren’t watching like they use to
He says it flat out "i would call what the league told me to call, to put a certain player at an advantage or disadvantage "
Its all fixed.
I can't even believe there are people who watch it that don't realize this yet 😂
@@CornPopWazABadDudeMost of us know but don’t care. Some of us just want to enjoy something that takes our minds off the stresses or life.
Yeaa at some point people will realize every part of the entertainment industry is just that… ENTERTAINMENT. These businesses are created to construct an entertaining experience and make as much money off of it as possible. Hollywood, NFL, music industry, WWE, NBA; they’re all companies designed to profit off of our entertainment. That’s their main goal, not competition.
@@jbeeski301 the back of the tickets of all those leagues makes that perfectly clear too.. The fine print on the back of an NFL ticket nearly ruined NFL for me lol... It literally says "this is not a competition, it is for entertainment only"
The reasons they put that, is so.... Ding ding ding, they can't be prosecuted for fixing games 🤯🤯🤯
You guys are wild
I bet the NBA hate this man for exposing them
No pun intended
And Jontray Porter
This guy was so straight forward, didn’t hesitate at all, answered everything honestly, never had to backtrack because he was so honest and direct with every answer. I can appreciate people who learn from their mistakes and are 100% accountable. Much respect to Tim for being so candid, and Vlad killed it with the questioning.
He wasnt honest during his career. Jus honest in his interview. Just re wrote what you meant
Tim is a dirt ball. There's nothing to respect here.
He's had years of rehearsal
I feel like calling David Stern all kinds of names while the man is dead might be unnecessary
Correct.
Also Draymond Green is in trouble, based on how they handled AI and R. Wallace.
This guy is literally telling you every NBA game is fixed. NFL is definitely fixed too
That's why I don't watch the NBA anymore.
Nfl doesnt even hide it anymore 😂
Absolutely
national fixed League is blatant in your face. All the Lions fans really thought the NFL was gonna let them in Superbowl 😂😂

The shit happens wayyyyyy more than people could imagine. Benefiting the leagues and big sportsbooks best interests. Whats hilarious, is how many fans think bad decisions in ufc is due to incompetent judges. As if, its always just a coincidence that the outcome always benefits the ufc.
@@jaseallenson316exactly i like all sports but nowadays more than ever u can see the rigging i remember an ex sports team owner said the leagues here in the US are like a mafia they hand pick and choose who wins and loses they still play hard but lots of questionable calls always influences who wins or not, all sports nowdays make the WWE wrestling more realistic with their bs calls and rigging such as UFC, boxing, as well as the big sports (NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, NFL) here in the US have all been questionably rigged for anyone to think theyre not are just stupid atp 🤦🏾🤦🏾

People need to pay attention to Donaghy's statement of "I knew what the league wanted the officials to call that night and it would put a team or a player at an advantage or disadvantage".

That series was the first time I felt like sports might legitimately be rigged at times. I watched that with a group of friends and all felt it was a blatant robbery.
And wouldn't you know it that it happened right at the same time this nba ref started betting on games. What a coincidence.
Just watch it like you watch the WWE
I've watched thousands of vlad interviews, and this is EASILY the best he's ever done. Asked amazing questions, let him tell his story without cutting the answers off, really paid attention to detail in the questions so they laid the story in order... wow. Amazing job Vladimir.

The NBA is considered "entertainment.' like a gameshow. The NBA and the T.V. networks want you to *think* it's real competition when it's not. This dude just confirmed it.
Anybody with half a brain knows that star athletes get the calls.... LeBron is rarely called for travelling and NFL defenders are flagged for breathing on Aaron Rodgers.
I remember Kobe saying, "friends come and go but banners are forever." After hearing this interview it makes look at the NBA differently.
The competition is absolutely real. The players put blood sweat and tears into their craft. The outside forces that influence to manipulate outcomes doesn’t change the competition and effort output by athletes.
True
The ridiculous idea that this dude altered the way billion dollar organization ran for years all by himself is a fairytale. So what he made a few bucks on the side at a clown show. Every last one of you would lie cheat and steal too if you're already doing it for someone else.

Very good interview. I like that he was straight forward and did not dodge any questions. He seems like a stand up guy. This interview gave me a different perspective on him. Wish him well.

Quite literally everything that comes out of this man's mouth is an outright blatant lie. He never knew anyone in the mob, the man bet with was his literal best friend not some mafia guy, he was very clearly betting on games throughout his career starting at least in 2003/04 not just during 2007, he was never threatened or even coerced in any way, he attempted many times to get other refs to bet with him and was successful with at least one. These are just some examples, this is all outlined in the FBI reports if anyone would actually bother to read things.
“The FBI and NBA did their own investigations” lol like the IRS would audit they own books correctly 😂 48:00
I heard a comedian talk about this "internal investigation". When does that ever work for anybody other than billionaires or government?

Great interview @vladtv ! Eye opening!
Another great interview, by Vlad!
Now this is why people say that the NBA and NFL are planned. Because of things like this...calls that are or aren't called make or break games!
Another thing is now fans have access to so much data. We can see statistical anomalies and say that's odd and it benefitted the Lakers... that's odd and it benefitted the Celtics etc.
A team with the fewest shot attempts in the paint leading the league in free throws for example.
A team winning 23% of their games with x official compared to 58% the rest of their games.
What about how often series going 6 or 7 games happens compared to past decades.
This interview is a big reason why I don’t watch sports as much or enthusiastically as I use to do. Every league is scripted/fixed to a point. It’s definitely not a conspiracy at this point. So many times we all seen blow ref calls on clearly foul/penalty plays. It’s sad we all spend time money, energy rooting for our teams and behind the scenes. The league has a narrative they want.
Not saying it’s completely 100% scripted/fixed. Some team’s definitely disrupt things. But this interview sheds tons of light on all professional sports. Honestly I would luv retired umpires/officials/refs to tell their inside stories. I bet they have plenty to say about league higher ups wanting certain calls or outcomes.
‘Fans’ these days don’t really care about the actual sport anyway, so who cares? It’s all about the entertainment aspect for many like the betting and narratives, so how can anyone blame the leagues. Capitalism corrupts the soul of everything
NFL n NBA both are heavily rigged, the refs will dictate the game to lean on a certain side the entirety of the game 🤫
I peeped how u tryna put the full videos up earlier now shout out Saycheese lol
Some of our community hate on Vlad because he just stays exposing shit, but interviews like these are honestly the best, because his interviewees answer so honestly and straightforwardly that it helps clarify so many events we all witnessed and that affected us. Sheed was my favorite player for a long time and I knew he hated this man lol. It's refreshing to hear his viewpoints expressed so plainly and coherently. I felt the same way about his interview with Don Kirk, which was also incredible. The Yummy Sandifer story always shook me, so to see the eloquence, brilliance and emotion of Don Kirk expressing everything he did was honestly the best. I love what Vlad does, man, I say keep going.
This story was huge when it broke. Go look at the Kings vs Lakers playoff game in 2000 i believe. The calls in that game raised alot of eyebrows and later was proven to be fixxed for Lakers.
The lakers took 27 free throws in the 4th quarter of game 6 of the 2002 western conference finals vs the Kings. 27 free throws in the 4th quarter!!! The kings were up 3-2 in that series and the NBA wanted to prolong the series for more money. Whoever won this series was going to win the championship. The Nets were the eastern conference champs and in was a consensus that they had no chance versus either team. They eventually got swept by the Lakers in the NBA finals.
Yup let’s talk about the 2016 nba finals as well 🦓

Tim is a professional and many of these questions would have made the average person angry and blow up, but Tim answers these questions with class and good manners. Credit to Tim for handling the situations in this interview, in the past and in real life with professionalism. Great guy. Best of luck to him. He didn’t do anything worse than what all the other fixers or point shavers did and/or are doing now. He wasn’t a “bad apple.” There were and are a million bad apples shaving points and cheating or worse. Tim just happened to get caught. Idiots that don’t get caught think they aren’t criminals just because they didn’t get caught. They think they’re good citizens and look down on people like Tim and others that got caught when in fact they’re just as guilty but haven’t gotten caught. I have respect for people like Tim who take responsibility for what they did and don’t see it on the chin. I have zero respect for people who do criminal activity but say they are not criminals simply because they didn’t get caught. That’s so stupid and arrogant. That’s like killing someone and saying you’re not a murderer and not a criminal because they didn’t get caught
Tim is still lying and he can’t blow up because the NBA would probably have him locked up or killed and dropped in the Gulf of Mexico
