Mr Regular holding his hand out for a hand shake and receiving none for a solid three seconds will be haunting the dreams of many for years to come.
Hey I didn't see his hand! I did feel kind of bad once I realized he had been waiting though
Need pewds here.
It's honestly not that bad....
LethalRonin27 hey dude, just wanted to tell you that you seem really cool and have a friendly face!
LethalRonin27 Has anyone told you that you look A LOT like Jake Gyllenhaal?
“Where’s it gonna grab?”
Car: “Are you readyNOW!!”
Pretty much what it's like lol
Swear to god.
Learning manual on this was frustrating, but rewarding. It wasn’t until like 3 years later in college when I drove a friends old manual Toyota Corolla.
I was freaking out, like bro somethings wrong with your clutch 😂 I could release it anywhere and it switched gears sooo smoothly.
Gens feel like they’re stage 2 from factory lol
There’s no octane requirement. The 3.8 runs happily on 87 and there’s only a 4 horsepower penalty (according to Hyundai)
I’m an owner of a 2015 base. The transmission can be easily smoothed out with a new transmission mount (Megan racing, for those interested)
Also I’ve offered up my car, and have a lot of knowledge on the brand and model. Sooooo yeah.
IRP shifter and trans mount helped a lot. very smooth crisp shifts in my bk1 3.8 track car
If it really will run on 87 with that small of a hp dip it has to be flooding the cylinder with fuel at that point. That's the only way for the compression to be safe at that octane rating.
“FUEL REQUIREMENTS
Your new vehicle is designed to use only unleaded fuel having a pump octane number ((R+M)/2) of 87 or higher.
Your new vehicle is designed to obtain maximum performance with UNLEADED FUEL, as well as mini- mize exhaust emissions and spark plug fouling.”
-Directly from my 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Owner’s manual
@@mixtronic Requirements mean it wont break. To change between octane ratings you need to lower the compression, enrich the mixture, or retard the timing for lower octanes. If it was designed primarily to run on 87 but has a slight advance to give you a boost on 91 that would explain the small difference in power.
I'm not arguing with you that the thing runs on 87. But I'd certainly run whatever octane it can take max advantage of. Not like it's going to save me money at the pump either way.
Keld Tundraking and it doesn’t save me money either way either. The fuel economy is just as abysmal running 93 as it is 87. I can’t detect any difference in performance.
Reviewed one of these with the same exact 350hp almost 2 years ago. Amazing cars, really fun to drive, and they sound awesome. Interior is nice too.
MaxSpeed Really is a great car if you can only have 1. I use it for autocross and drive it through New England winter. I’m approaching 90k miles on mine (same model as video) and it has been dead nuts reliable.
2.0T version has a boost gauge instead of the torque gauge.
Wish it had a windshield fluid gauge instead 😩
@deadend Wow. Thanks genius. Did you even watch the video dawg?
ChiknTendies the tq gauge barely moves I drive my modded homeboys all the time.......it’s slow asf to
The economy difference with the accord might have something to do with being down 70hp...
The Gen coupe also has a shorter rear end, mine sits at about 2.5k rpm at 60mph. I'd bet the Accord cruises at 1900 -2000
@@grahamj1111 Yeah, it's apples to oranges. The Accord if you want some really practical fun style, the Genesis if you're trying to see how much go you can get for 16k. And man.. it makes a good argument.
Keld Tundraking he also is overly optimistic on the highway mpg of the Accord V6. It’s more like 30 mpg, not 34.
@@97I30T Yeah even 30 is probably a bit generous. You got modern 4cyl barely cracking 35 highway
@@grahamj1111 which one do you have? The manuals do because they're 6 speed. The automatics are 8 speed and mine sits at 1.5k at 60-75 on 8th
The "Ultimate" trim has lumbar support, for those of us of a certain, *regular* age
I wonder if you could add those seat to a r-spec ?
@@R1ckyG yes it swaps out 100%

I mean theres no doubting that Hyundai / Kia / Genesis has been slowly taking over the mass consumer market for the past 15 years. I live in Ohio which for 50+ years was a GM state due to all the GM factories and I consistently see more H/K/G than any GM brand. I've also owned 3 Hyundai / Kias and never had any issues with any. Our current back up car is an 09 Kia Spectra5 SX 6mt and it's awesome. Sport suspension, good torque, strut bracing under the hood, great interior. I drive it more than my 2015 Malibu LTZ V6. My next purchase is definitely either a 2020 Forte GT2 or a Elantra GT Sport or N-Line. It's not the 90s anymore, and it hasn't been for a looooong time.
Same in Europe!
@@jareknowak8712 you guys in Europe get the goodies too! Makes me jealous lol. Elantra GT N and the Sportback! We don't even get the 2020 Forte5 GT in the states this year. I'm still upset about that. That's why I'm tryna figure out what to do this year. I want another hatch for the versatility but I really like Kias styling better. Unfortunately the Forte here is only sedan and the Elantra GT doesnt have the styling I like. 😭
Some people are still in 90s
@@_dmfd At least we get the Veloster N in the states, which is basically an Elantra GT/i30 N in a party dress.
David Dawson why would those two be your choices? Get something you can be proud of, it’s a big world out there the used car market
The rattle IS THE SHIFTER - very common with these cars. My 2016 was awful and a pain in the butt to remove and find a replacement for but I got it done and replaced it with a nice heavy billet aluminum knob and the improvement in shift feel and quietness is EPIC!
I have a 15 ultimate m/t and absolutely love it tbh. Amazing bang for the buck and rock solid if maintained. Sooo much fun too.
Best rwd, stick car for the price

1:20 Veloster never had gauges like that in the middle. Those appear to be just for the Genesis. I'd guess that was the boost gauge from the 2.0T version of this car.
Glad you enjoyed driving one, people tend to just shit on it bc it's a hyundai; it's plenty fun for a daily
Currently my daily car, keeps getting better with an exhaust system and tune.Torque and power through each shift is just perfect.
Do you still have it? What did you get tuned?

I think the description should be "if you want to go as slow as a V6 Camry but faster than a F86"
The camry is almost a second slower to 60, is wrong wheel drive, and it's a Camry.
@@guyfrancis4643 Guy Francis Guy Francis Wow. Real mature response there. Good on you for proving you have nothing to add to the conversation though. Can't wait to see your response to this. I'm sure it'll be great.
facts my buddies has all kinds of shit an it’s slower then ass
Yep currently own a 2015 3.8 Rspec, 56K black. Love the car, only replaced front brake pads so far, oh yea also shift knob, and that fixed the vibration noise. Changed tires to 245/35/19 in front, 265/35/19 rear, no more under steer at corner entry.
The seats are fantastic, the gauges... well fuel economy toss it, but the torque can be useful to show cylinder pressure and therefore blow by.
Oh yea also every oil change 5k, I do a CRC valve cleaning routine to prevent carbon deposits from DI Engine.
Love the limited slip diff, hydrolic steering and track tuned suspension, plus you can see out of it. Added carbon fiber 4d inlay on instrument cover and it looks awesome.
Best recent purchase, the tires Michelin super sport..wow and they will last twice as long as the Bridgestones that came stock with the car.
Are you running stock rims?
@@stevescarsfish2175 yes, painted dark grey
@@challengeaginglife Thanks. I’m on stock rims also with spacers. I wanted a little more poke on the back
0:03 is why i love mr. regular
Had one of these before my c6. Loved the Rspec immensely but the lack of aftermarket was the reason to move to a car with a LS engine. Picked up the Rspec 3.8 for under $20k and had a blast with it while I owned it, zero mechanical issues too. Owned a 3.8 BK1 Gen Coupe prior and the BK2 Rspec was notably better.
When you're featherin it Brother.
Man, here in Australia we got the Grandeur - the un-fun budget-luxury boomer-trap. Same engine but slushy 5spd auto. Never got one of these, probably because it would have done a better job as a performance vehicle than the two local (read: not local but American-owned) offerings our govt poured millions of our tax dollars into the life-support system they were on...only for them to leave anyway.
I'm not that familiar with this model, but inmost Hyundais I've driven, the t/c turns off with a simple push of the button. The t/c _and_ the stability program turn off if you hold the button in for a few seconds.
aussiebloke609 it’s the same with the genesis
i do not regret my 3.7 acura TL awd purchase after this to be honest. i appreciate the fit and finish over the power.
why do you regret it?
@@realbeetlejuice He said he doesn't regret it.
Do some more motor bikes and add a little shenanigans. It’s always fun to see others having fun in your videos.
Are you guys gonna do the Veloster N soon?
Got my 2013 track 3.8 for 12.2k. 40k miles. Love it so far
Worth 15k+ now in covid pricing
My 2013 3.8 GT takes 87. I believe the manual says performance is a little better on premium, whether that's through "detecting" it via computer magic and running a slightly different map, or just burning more reliably.
Like most cars, it pulls timing when it detects a little knocking. it just happens that the knocking starts earlier on lower octane fuel, so you get less power. Doesn't really hurt anything, though.
I have the 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T Base Automatic 5 Speed. It's the last year of the BK1 generation. It gets 210hp and 226-236tq on 87. It gets 20-30 mpg, usually like 24-27.5. It has an open diff with the normal brakes, 18" wheels, and the 5 speed auto with paddle shifters. It's a normal, torque converter auto that's just Hyundai's version of the 5sp auto in the Nissan 350Z, Titan, and G35. Hyundai's subsidiary, Powertech, used Nissan's transmission as a blueprint for the 5 Speed. It barely has an overdrive gear. I sit a 3000 rpm at 70mph in fifth gear with a 3.909 final drive. Fourth gear is a 1:1 ratio with fifth right around 0.89:1. I bought it with about 80k mi in 2017. I still have it now with a little over 120k mi. It's a tough SOB. I flew off into a corn field drifting on wet gravel roads two weeks after I got it my Sophomore year of HS. It just had some minor plastic fenderliner damage that I fixed myself for $25. Other than that, I fixed a one worn wheel bearing for like $100 myself another year down the line. I do oil changes every 5k mi with replacing the filter each time too. The only other things I've had to fix was a bad brake light sensor (caused the traction control to turn on randomly) that I fixed with a new one for $10. The second was a slight leak in the turbo oil line that I fixed for $25 myself too. Overall, pretty amazing first car. I get compliments on it in one way or another at least once a month.
Love my Genesis coupe 3.8. First thing you do when you get In that car is turn the traction control off. It's the worst. Clutch is very grippy also, and I just feather it out of 1st gear. Mine has been great to me (BK2) and I've put over 141k on her. Recently bought a 2023 Elantra N about a year ago, and it's awesome, but I still enjoy driving the Genesis from time to time. Cheers
I got my 2013 2.0T Genesis Coupe at 68k miles for $8K, had it for a couple of months, hands down best decision of my life. Car is really easy to mod and with the factory spoiler on it, looks clean af. Getting an SFR tune when the taxes come in
Did you try the v6 version? I’m trying to find opinions on both
@@JoseLopez-vp8vu The V6 is stock fun, 350 horsepower is no joke, but the 2.0t has slightly better fuel economy, and one of the best sounding stock turbos in the game. Seriously this thing makes turbo noises for days. And as I said, the tuning potential is where it's at, the V6 caps out at around 375 horsepower unless you boost it (which I'm told is a dumb idea) whereas the 2.0t has tons of potential and can easily out horse the v6 with proper tuning and upgrades
I got my 16’ Ultimate 3.8 6MT. As many have said before it’s pretty darn reliable when taken care of. Plenty of power. All I’ve done is port and polished the TB and the upper and lower intake plenums. Just last night when up against another BK2 2.0 and I came out ahead about 1 1/2 - 2 car lengths ahead on the first run and he didn’t want to go again.
I have a 2014 2.0T R Spec 14,000 miles SFR Stage 1.5, intake, Carbon fiber hood and spoiler, and intercooler. I've never had problems leaving 3.8s and 370zs, G37s, C300, Si, Mustangs, etc (friends all own). It's not an M3 (I owned an 07' M5) after a 1.5 tune, but with bigger injectors and a bigger turbo it's good for over 450 to the wheels. Upgrade the clutch if you go over 400 tq. The block is rated for 800 horsepower, but you'll need engine work if you plan on 500+ hp. All this potential and it came with a 10 year powertrain warranty for cheap... winner in my book, and I've owned a lot of cars.
I like this one a lot better than the actual review.
Agreed!
My 2013 2.0T manual base is 275 at the wheels and still gets 29 mpg. Stage 1 tune and some bumped up local 93. It’s got 85k original miles and is a blast to drive. Keep it stock maybe a cai and catch cans for the timid theta.
The V6 is a gas eating monster. The GDI destroys the lamda engine without intervention. Sure it’s quicker but with minimal cash the 2.0T will blow that away.
The V6 mustang!!! Not even a close comparison. This car is WAY better looking and much faster. I would put this car against V8 mustangs and still choose this
I suspect the clutch grabs low on these because the dual mass flywheel gets loose. You'll hear them clunk when the car is shut off.
Surprised at no mention of the G37 coupe or 370z, which look pretty similar on paper.
kolideoskope paper only
370 is more Sports Car than the Genesis Coupe but the Genesis Coupe is more livable/daily-able IMO. No clue about the Infiniti though, never got a chance to drive one.
Agreed the constant comparison to a 25 year old mustang is very tiring.
Man I miss driving mine but it's buried in snow and snow tires are fun and all but the salt!! The salt!!
I live in Iowa, I feel you’re pain.
@@seththomas9105 worst is even after the snow and salt you have to dodge pot holes and what the frost done to the road, then it's avoiding construction.
Ironic that the 6-speed is a bit of a downer in this one; as the one thing most everyone loved about the preceding Tiburons is their excellent notchy 6-speeds [and sound]. At least the Genesis coupe V6's retained the sonorous notes the smaller Delta V6 in the Tiburon. Will never understand why it seems only koreans and europeans can make musical V6's that don't sound like minivan engines. Only exception I can think of for Japan is the Mitsu FTO V6.
Yeah, I learnt to drive in a Hyudai i30. The clutch was pretty wierd, and it was a bit short bow-ey
On the topic of the mirror: my 2016 Forte5 SX is the same, it doesn’t go high enough and I’m not exactly tall, yet I feel like I’m always slouching a bit
Have had my 3.8 - 2016 Ultimate for over a year and I love it! Manual is so worth it!!! The pulls are fun and sounds are awesome. I changed the shift knob (Raceseng knob) and it’s so smooth. Debating on keepin it, as I just hit 30k miles

Pretty cool stuff. I had no idea Hyundai made a car like this other than the Veloster which isn’t quite the same.
Adam Miller how does anyone not know about the Genesis?
Drives perfect these genesis....
I have no idea why all 6th gears aren’t made to be very tall? Why would you ever want/need to turn more than 1500 rpm at highway speed? No one minds downshifting, if you need to climb a hill or overtake.
Am I missing another reason?
torque. if u have a very tall gear for 6th, but the engine is turning at 1000rpm, the engine wouldnt produce enough torque while cruising to keep the car moving at a constant speed. youll have to give more gas at a lower rpm which would stress the engine, and the gas mileage would be significantly less since youre dumping a lot of fuel into the cylinders to keep it moving at a constant highway speed. this is entirely subjective to what engine is being used by the vehicle as well. a large v8 engine would be able to produce sufficient torque at 1000rpm to keep the vehicle moving, as such you might see a taller 6th or even 7th gear ratio like in the c7 corvette 7MT.
the opposite also applies for smaller engines and gas mileage. you want a shorter 6th gear so that the engine isnt overworked at a low rpm, and it would get better gas mileage and torque turning 1800rpm at 15% throttle in 6th, versus that same engine turning 1000rpm at 75% throttle.
The same trans was used for the 2.0T motor which required the shorter 6th gear versus a standard V6 6spd.
Well, my 2012 Genesis Coupe 2.0T has an 5sp auto that's at 3,000 rpm going 70 mph in 5th. Somehow my mpg is still good at like 24-27. The 2nd generation 2.0Ts had only about 50 more hp and tq, yet their 8sp autos are at like 1750rpm at 70 in 8th. However, their mpg is about the same or 1-2 mpg worse.
The only thing really useful on the center gages on a 3.8 is the temp.
About those gauges, the predecessor "in mind" (not technically) of the Genesis Coupe is the Hyundai Coupe/Tuscani/Tiburon and it had those too in its last generation. I have a 2007 one, it had also volt, torque and current fuel consuption, so I kinda see it as a hommage to it. (Doesn't change the fact they're kinda useless and just for looks tho).
Actually, Mr. Regular should get his hands on a Tiburon GT (thats the V6 Version in the US, right?) aswell!
I've been looking at these for sometime now (after I watched Jack Bauer drive a black one in 24) but I just can't let those gimicky triple gauges slide. That and the fact that the Genesis had those but not analog water temp and fuel guages.
Get the 2.0T. From 2013 onward they push 274 horsepower, 275 ft-lb of torque, and the "torque" gauge is a turbo gauge instead.
The torque gauge is the boost gauge in the 2.0T
The manual r spec trims are a lot dumbed down. The premium and ultimate trims come with way better seats and a way nicer touchscreen navigation feature
2020 Mustang starts with a 310 hp turbo 4 with a MANUAL or 10 speed auto. But can be boosted up to 330 hp with the performance package. Which will give you the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 4.5 secs!
No more 300 hp V6 anymore...

I bought a 2010 3.8 track new and owned it for 5 years. I never did like the way the transmission felt. The fluidity between the trans and clutch felt off. Otherwise, it was a super fun car.
In the 2014 model year specifically and on, the manual 2.0Ts and 3.8s got carbon synchros. All BK1 2010-2012 manual trans are kinda funky. The 2013 BK2s still basically had the BK1 Manual Transmission.

Genesis only became a separate company (like Lexus or Acura) in 2017 . As this car is a 2015 model, it's still a _Hyundai_ Genesis, even though the usually omitted the Hyundai badge on their Genesis models.
Really wish Hyundai released these outside the US
They did... People own them in Canada, Japan, China, Sweden, Germany, Spain, most Arabian countries, Russian Fed, etc. Never did find out if they ever made their way to the U.K., North African markets, South American markets, or South Africa.
@@panchonorthmann6408 Also in the home market of Korea.
I'm actually cross shopping this and the Accord. Running 93 might suck.
The genesiscoupe runs on 87. Most prefer to put in 91/93
Rakeem Infiniti G37 Coupe off the table?
@@SilverScarletSpider Insurance is pretty high compared to the Honda. But if the price is right, who knows.
Maybe get the 2.0t has better mpg and with a tune is faster than 3.8
Bro you have stalled more cars than my sister.......your channel is still excellent however.
Casey Wilson yeah those racing courses he took seem to have done nothing lol

It’s ok Grandma we’re almost home.
Did he even get past like 4000rpm? Didn’t sound like it. V6 like this pulls at 5-7. Doesn’t this redline at 7?
Here in South America we only got it with a 2 liter turbo, price was very tempting (cheaper even than a Miata and most hot hatches) but the power delivery of the 2.0 is kind of crappy, very laggy and feels less powerful than it is.
Wish we got that V6
But turbo is silly easy to tune.
@@jareknowak8712 Sure, but it's the same engine that the Optima had and I think it's just not that good
Where in South America? Here in Brazil we never got these.
Hyundai decided to focus on some models specific for our market in the last decade. Which means that they were (and still are) extremely overpriced and with way less build quality.
Igor Pereira Vieira Colombia, but yeah we barely get the Veloster Turbo, and at least here, it’s more expensive than a GTI or a Cupra
Which Pony Car is not Pony Car
It's a 3.8 v6
3.6L
@@realbeetlejuice Hyundai does not, and never has, made a 3.6L engine. This IS a 3.8L NA V6.
Lennox Lewis it’s a 3.8
Sounds like my dad driving
Literally drove this like a grandmother.
“I wAnt tRacTion ConTroL oN!!!” Lol
$16k isn't bad for a vehicle like this one if it can stand the test of time (long term reliability.) I know people who've purchased newer SUVs for more money and don't actually require such a vehicle.
From other I know it's rock solid. Mine personally has had zero issues since it's birth in 2013
I love mr reg but can someone show him how to drive and whine a little less
Those 3 tacky, useless gauges in the 3.8 go all the way back to the 2004 Hyundai Tiburon SE (I owned one), that had the same, exact, useless, gauges. It's probably from the same interior designer that probably wears faux Raybans, $20 'designer' knock-off watches, and cheap suits to work. BTW, I own a 2011 Gen Coup 3.8 Track (David Patterson reviewed it) and although it's not the GDi 3.8, it makes more power than a stock BK2 (car reviewed here) and out accelerates it w/ a couple bolt ons and a custom SFR tune. That tune also sharpens the throttle mapping so rev matching is super quick and also eliminates rev-hang. BK1 3.8 track/r-spec with bolt ons and tuned is the way to go, IMO.
Stranger wants to drive my car. Stalls it then wants to turn off the traction control. No thanks.
to be fair mr. regular isn't doing anything crazy with the TC off. just a little corner burn. He also has a really good track record as he's never crashed a car for a review
