Some of the best voice work in a game I've ever heard.
Norvégian accent ?
@@DavidThierry57 They're all Scottish.
I love the banter between Caz and the others. Like neck deep in shit, and sarcasm still has a place. It really adds to the immersion of being in the situation.
I've actually kept thinking about this. They're in a dangerous situation, yet the jokes don't come off as whedonisms or Mavel-like. Made me genuinely wonder where's the line.
Agreed I like how well some of the designs and monsters align with it it’s well done
Yeah, it makes the situation a lot more realistic cause I could see myself using sarcasm to help ease the tension. 😀
nah, they're just being scottish.
This game captures the atmosphere of the original John Carpenters 'The Thing' so well. I feel certain the Devs were inspired by that film. I think that McLeary's name may even be inspired by the lead character McCready in The Thing. This is such a slick and professional game from this Dev team. Its got to be a game of the Year contender. Thanks so much for playing it, Chris. x
They were! Apparently the initial pitch for the game was "The Thing set on an oil rig", and they've recreated that vibe so well.
@@charondusk5608it's also apt that the unmade sequel to Thing 2011 was gonna be set on an oil rig.
The animation, voice acting and sound design are incredible. The clangs of distant metal the monster tentacles snapping and slapping around. Even the screw driver animation on the vent nails is top notch. the voice acting so far is very impressive. This game is really well done.
especially rennick as a head spider…. i was like this has to be heavily inspired by the thing lol
This was best game I seen in awhile I'm big fan of the thing
I love how the voice acting feels genuine.
Most of these horror games are lacking in that way, so
It's good to see it wasn't neglected.
You can honestly hear and feel the fear in their voices. Everyone is giving %100 and then some.
@@ash1rose EXACTLY, right here.
I hope they get recognised for their efforts and are future games :))
It's not just the voices but the lines too. The writers gave the characters so much personality. One one hand, they all are built off of a burly blue collar worker archetype, on the other they're all very different? I wonder how they achieved that.
I'm not even playing and this game is tense.
It's a testament to the quality of the experience.
Just a thought that your last grip of humanity is trapped forever in a hideous monster is so horrifying. Even more than all this situation. No one deserves this, even that bastard Rennick.
It is a really good game.
Rennick definitely deserves it, ten times over.
So glad that the title doesn't content the word "ending" yet. This game is just fantastic 💯
I just thought about that too! I hope this game playthrough lasts a bit longer
The rigs boss is the real monster here
Him and Cadal, who/whatever that company is, since they're the ones who built the rig and cut the many corners that turned it into such a deathtrap, ie the lifeboats. Part of me wonders if they knew there was something down there, because the word "Cadal" in Scottish Gaelic apparently means "Sleep/ing".
There are numerous aspects of this game that I really enjoy, but one of my favorites is that there are other characters to interact with. So many horror games feature the silent, solo protagonist and this is a breath of fresh air.
Or if they do have NPCs, they're either also completely silent or have the same few lines they just repeat on loop.
The characters in this having so much personality is definitely one of the best things about this game.
This is such a fantastic playthrough so far. For as little screentime as some of the characters have had, each loss is just gut-wrenching. Even Rennick, colossal prick that he was, didn't deserve... that. Eugh. Poor Caz! What a crazy ride, looking forward to more.
What I like the most about this is that it doesn't feel lonely. I think most horror games rely too much on the fear of being trapped alone trying to stay alive. This game gives me a sense of camaraderie between the NPCs and our MC trying to survive the horror together.
Innes tripping on nothing when closing the gate has to be the most horror game-esque thing to happen.
Fear. He's tripping on Fear 😂
Appreciate the insider translations, Chris! Your fixation on the food shows your priorities are in the right place! 😂👌I’m obsessed with this game-the monster designs, the funny and natural quips, the story and tense sound design. The beauty of some of the weird masses gives a kind of cognitive dissonance.
My cheeks were clenched when Rennick was after you lol. This game is so engrossing, and I love it. It captures the atmosphere of The Thing so well and gives it a fresh take.
26:21 Got a much needed laugh out of me, the game's dialogue overall is just incredible!
That dialogue is so natural 😆
Can’t the monsters see your light? It kind of gave me that impression. I hope you can save one of your coworkers soon!
Part 2 is here! Snacks have been acquired... I shall enjoy myself!
Fun fact: I own an almost identical copy of the radio that's visible at 31:34. It is indeed a model from the 1970s, and it still works great to this day! 🙂 Loving this game a lot! Cheers! //Rick
So, since Rennick is a glob-monster now, does that mean Caz has his job back?
Depends whether Rennick had time to report the firing to HQ or not, probably. Oh course, considering he gave the order to keep drilling that got the the company's expensive oil rig dumped straight into Hell, *Rennick* probably won't have a job anymore either, glob monster or otherwise. 😉
@@sharondornhoff7563 I guess we should wait and see if there's even a place to work by the end of this!!!
@@samdelsignore104 True, at this rate it's probably more a question of "Will their families get to claim death compensation from the oil company or not?"
@@sharondornhoff7563 "see that single I-beam sticking out of the sea? That's where an oil rig used to be. All the people on board disappeared when it sank...."
Christ, I'm not even playing and I'm tensing up and freaking out, WTF is this game!
Just when I finished part 1! Amazing timing 😂 Let's GOOOOOO
Same and its a rainy day so enjoy
The way I SHOUTED “GOOD!!! FK RENNICK!!” When that helicopter came down 🤣🤣
[Monster chases CJU in a dark place] [CJU decides "let's just leave the flashlight on."]
I think i speak for most when I say you can play the rest of the game and no matter how long I will be glued to my screen.
It's my kinda game when characters can argue about Star Trek during a lovecraftian nightmare... 😂. Can't wait for the next part. Thanks for the entertainment Chris ❤
loving the monsters designs theyre so bizarre
I love that the game doesn't show us too much of these monsters. We only see glimpses of Rennick while running away from him. With the bigger ones outside, we only see their silhouettes or some parts, like tenticles. And even with the static 'environmental' monsters, there are only small details visible, like a grotesquely distorted face.
Somehow, it makes it even scarier.
And just to make it more disturbing, we can't even be sure that the monsters we've already seen relatively clearly won't look even *more* grotesque and twisted the next time they appear, because whatever's infesting them and the rig seems to grow and change by the minute.
The scriptwork and voice acting in this is so great!
I watched the first part a couple hours ago, if this game keeps being as good / better than the first part it's up for top3 easy for the year so far! Love it so far. Now onto this part!
I'm loving this game. The dialogue about the jam and Dr. Spock had me laughing so hard.
I will admit the game is pretty engaging, but one thing that bugs me is the game is extremely Linear. Like I enjoy linear games and it's kind of expected since this is made by the Chinese Room who are pretty much the godfathers of the walking sim. However, they have done such a good job at making the Oil Rig such a cool setting for a horror game, it really makes you want to explore and get lost in this place, but you can't. Heck, imagine the additional environmental story they could have rewarded players with if they allowed us to explore the place.
You enjoy linear facebites?
That's honestly one of only two real downsides to the game, it is very "on rails" as one review put it (the other being how short it is). It might've been a better idea to let us have a day or two of world building, let us explore a bit, do the job we're supposedly there for, before everything went to shit.
That said, I don't mind too much because everything else is done so well, and I'd much rather have a linear game that is good in almost every other way than an open world game that falls flat because it was too busy making everything explorable and it became a distraction to the player.
@@charondusk5608 I actually like the fact that Caz isn't very familiar with many areas of the rig, and even admits as much in the dialogue. It makes it easier for immersion, in that the player and Caz are sharing the same unfamiliarity with the layout: the player, because they've never seen it before, and Caz, because even the areas he *does* know are getting trashed and warped enough to confuse him.
Game would have benefitted a lot more with a survival horror/open ended design
Ach, pur Innes. He hid a bastart o a day! 😂 I can't wait to see Part 3.
Same. I wanna know just what the hell that drill woke up. I've become quite riveted. Lately I've just watched or listened to some of CJU's playthroughs. But this one's got me so riveted that it has my full attention.
So GOOD. Not only am I loving it for the game's sake, when Chris genuinely enjoys the game as well it adds to my own enjoyment!
even in a tough situation they don't forget about humor.
This reminds me of the movie The Thing
Wow, Chris is a real one
Best dialogue in a game. Wow, I love this game. I can't wait for part 3. Damm, good game.
Die Hard 6 : a good day to Die with Bruce Caz
Thank you, chris. Keep up the great work.
Don’t worry, this game delivers from start to finish in my opinion. It stays consistent the entire way through. Amazing video as usual Chris, keep up the good work.
Oh my, here we go part two😄
I’m playing the game myself and I’m really enjoying it glad you are as well chris
Tbh, I would love to see this being adapted into a feature film.
This is absolutely amazing! Definitely going to be another series I'll be sad to see over when it's done. The dialog, the sounds, the creatures, the art. It's all so good!
YESSSSS pumped for this. And congrats on 141k!!
Fantastic! Just in time for me to watch while I cook dinner! 😊
CJU the prophet!!! 💯💪 Gonna be watching this later with some beer 🍺🍻, Cheer's y'all!!!
When someone lives one an island , their tounges tend to wag
This is the thing meets colour out of space. Also, the "he has more arms than Godrick from elden ring," gave me a laugh.
This game is amazing! Keep the series going! PLZ!
Scotty would not deny that game ! :D
It's from The Chinese Room so obviously the dialogue and story will be faultless. I am really enjoying this game, thanks for playing it!!
Of-fucking-course you'd find Rennick in Administration.
Im loving this game alot! I just wish its not only McLeary who will be able to get out from this hell.
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
All right! Let's goooo
This way ??
@@DavidThierry57 Yeah
I came into this thinking it would be closer to psychological horror, but this is...amazing! The body horror is top notch here...
So good ! I was gripping the arms of my chair in fright many times …voices and characters are excellent indeed. As for the creature(s) yikes!!!! Thanks Chris , can’t wait for part 3!! 😎
Thank god you are releasing this quick af because I've been ignoring streamers with full game gameplay just so I can watch you do it lol
26:21 and 28:30 is some of the funniest dialogue I’ve heard in a game lmfao please continue this series
Jsut finished part 1 yes! THANK YOU!
yeay was hoping for it 🤩 my evening is saved 🥰
Someone certainly watched The Thing and Colour Out of Space and this is the glorious creation; a pants situation. 😆
If anyone suggests I do something risky or dangerous enough to get me killed, my response would be a firm 'I'm busy!' 😂
I've been curious about Raffs, the guy who got stuck in that round tank at the beginning. I was hoping Caz would ask Bodie about him, or that Bodie would mention him, but there's been no mention. Maybe Raffs died off-screen.
I had such a hard time waiting for part two! So excited for this series!
This is one of the few games I wish I played instead of watch here. This game is INSANE!!! 🤩
I admit that with the accents so thick and everything else, I was not expecting much from this game. But I'm with Chris- the banter and the horror and the gameplay is all coming together in a fantastic way, and I can't wait for the next installment.
What a master class in horror .. the setting, the atmosphere, the voice acting, I can’t fault it…
A few minor issues, like the massive doors change to doors with glass (28:59), but overall a very good looking and atmospheric game.
Reminds me at “the thing”!
Wow literally just finished part 1 like a half hour ago lol bless you!! 🙏🏽
So I watched someone else play this with a different set of subtitles that translated all of the Scottish slang into straight English and I have to say, thank you for playing with THIS set of subtitles. It really does make a difference and helps me hear what they're saying better while actually staying true to their dialogue. :) And having seen the game, I can't wait to see what's next! This game is phenomenal.
What a great game. This is the Dead Space prequel we will never get.
God, the way this game gives me such horrible feelings of dread and anxiety even just as a spectator -
The devs did a brilliant job creating this omg
Yeah!! Part II!! xD
With all the levels Caz pulls, he must have a PhD in theoretical physics.
Rare to see a game induce genuine panic in Chris like this one has. Can't wait to see where it goes!
I can not say enough how much I love this game so far! So much detail and suspense. It really is a breadth of fresh air to have a game that did something different. No mannequins, or find a hundred keys type stuff. It really is something special. 😁👍
20:56 I kind of thought he looked like a squid or a shrimp or something, lol.
I know everyone is saying it, but the writing and voicework are really phenomenal. The fates of the people, even the assholes, is horrifying. Ugh hats off to the actors but the men begging for their lives and afraid to die are going to stay with me for awhile. Here's hoping this game sticks the landing.
Thanks, as always, for sharing with us.
This is clearly a love letter to John Carpenter The Thing. I'm not a fan of walking sims but if you're gonna make one this is a pretty good way to go about it, interesting setting, good voice acting and great graphics.
This game is fantastic. The premise is great; the voice acting is stellar, and there are so many questions I want answered. What exactly did Cas do? WTF did they awaken in the deep? The banter between the characters helps flesh them out, and you honestly care about them and feel bad when they get, well, subsumed or killed. I can understand most of the accent even with my American brain and am familiar with terms such as "ken" from social osmosis I guess, but the subtitles are definitely useful! Can't wait to see the next video.
Take a drink every time the Caz says "What the f*ck is that?"...
I spoiled myself by checking out the rig series, and I would rather have this over that one.
Please continue this series, despite less views than part 1. Its an amazingly great game.
it's a small detail but I love that going through bulkhead doors puts you in a cutscene sort of reminiscent of the old resident evil games.
This game reminds me so much of Soma. I love that game so this is great.
Utterly delightful! I hope someone survives, though I do wonder if they'll be contagious, given Rennick changed? Looking forward to the next part!
This game is really awesome. Great dialogue, great sound effect, of course, great commentary from Chris. Hey Chris, would you consider playing the game called whispering Lane? I have listened to a play through of this game with no commentary and the dialogue is pretty good, but there are a lot of areas where there are just sound effects, and I cannot really tell what is going on, but the storyline sounds good and something that you would play. I hope you give it a try.
Yes I am so excited!!!
It took me until 40 minutes into part 2 to figure out what the "lekky" was 😂
I think ever since I started watching your playthroughs of The Room series I have counted on your videos as part of my daily routine. Your pacing feels efficient and your commentary make your videos replayable and comforting even through the most gruesome of journeys. 👏🏼
Next time I want to complain about my boss....at least he's not a giant head chasing me down to literally kill me😅
Plus i do really appreciate the help in translating our host is providing!
this monster reminds me of the one from carrion, the tentacle thing on the spaceship
Wow, this is a fantastic game! It is terrifying! I am so tense right now!
Just in time for dinner, the benefit of being in Europe haha. So happy to see you doing a serie because the game is amazing, definitely worth playing ! And as always I love your commentary ❤️❤️ Thank you for today's video!!
'The Thing' evolved on a rig.
Shit's getting intense ! This is so much fun to watch/
This is an excellent let's play, what a game!
I’m so excited!!!
