2:27 just like the audience, David is doubtful on what is real or not.
Just note that every time it’s presence is there is also marked by the colors red and black. This is also shown in the first episode with the silhouetted black dog bathed in red light.
Meanwhile the color blue is heavily associated with David, showing up a lot in his scenes.

@@Dominic-Decoco because the Devil with the Yellow Eyes was this strange, crazy monster that used other beings like Lennie to show itself.

They aren’t the same being . The show never confirms the devil with yellow eyes is anal Faruk and in the comics they are two separate characters that just work together. Amal Faruk is not the shadow king he is just a guy that helped him get into David

Actually it’s not, clearly you weren’t paying attention. In season 2 it’s revealed that Lenny and the devil with the yellow eyes are both just faces/masks used by Amahl Farouk. Lenny was just another puppet, she was never the one pulling the strings and she was certainly never the devil.

    I’m pretty sure he’s Apocalypse.
A different actor already plays two versions of The Shadow King.
Legion, in the comic series, in the “Legion Quest” saga, is the direct precursor and cause of “The Age of Apocalypse.”
He accidentally travels time to the day that Erik and Charles first revealed their powers to each other; Legion intends to kill Erik Magnus Lensher, before he becomes so powerful, so that Charles can achieve his dream of peace without interference.
But Legion accidentally kills his father which he immediately realizes makes him a paradox, the universe collapses and everyone except Charles and David are transited into the nightmare world we barely glimpsed in “Days of Future Past.”
Blink was totally in that movie for thirty seconds.
So in 1995, Marvel killed EVERYONE and did four part miniserieses of alternate versions of all the X-titles and brought them all to that terrible place.
That nightmare world was our own, but controlled by pure evil in “The Age of Apocalypse.”
Which I really, really, really wanna see on the big screen in a cinema full of people who, like me, have spent the last 23 years just dreaming about it.
Fingers crossed, Devil with Yellow Eyes is Apocalypse.
Also, “yellow eyes” is my favorite soft phrase; J double-R Tolkein’s favorite was “cellar door”.
    Whisper “Yellow Eyes” ten times.
    Whisper “Cellar Door” ten times.
Which seems softer and smoother to you?

Relationship between Apocalypse and the Shadow King from Marvel.com
The circumstances of how the Shadow King came into the employ of Apocalypse have never been revealed. What is known is that he is a mutant of incredible power which Apocalypse keeps locked in a bottle in his domain. Years ago Amahl Farouk and Charles Xavier encountered each other in Israel and fought on the astral plane. Charles Xavier triumphed in the psychic battle with Amahl Farouk apparently killed. In reality Farouk’s body was merely trapped on the astral plane where he became a disembodied persona. Years later he became one of many servants to Apocalypse.

The show is presented through David’s distorted, schizophrenic view of reality.
It’s his perspective on the story that was already published in comic book form 20 years ago; and series creator Noah Hawley has said that he wanted David to be an unreliable narrator.
With an unreliable narrator you can’t really even be sure when the show is taking place, let alone who’s who, who’s real, and who’s not who they seem to be.
Unreliable Narrator (clipped from the oft wrong but not wholly untrustworthy WikiPedia):
“An unreliable narrator is a narrator, whether in literature, film, or theatre, whose credibility has been seriously compromised. The term was coined in 1961 by Wayne C. Booth in ‘The Rhetoric of Fiction’. ... Sometimes the narrator's unreliability is made immediately evident.”
As, perhaps, with a schizophrenic storyteller?

Really reaching here. Shadow King was only ever related to Apocalypse in the Age of Apocalypse timeline, not the main 616 continuity. And as already mentioned, Legion's Shadow King doesn't resemble Apocalypse at all. Instead, Legion's Shadow King resembles the Shadow King of the comic book continuity quite accurately. Further, just because David Haller is an inconsistent narrator doesn't mean absolutely anything and everything is possible in the show. It also doesn't mean that everything included in the show is falsely portrayed. The presence of inconsistence doesn't equate to the absence of coherence after all. The Shadow King was confirmed to be Amahl Farouk in the show, who died at the hands of Charles Xavier. His intent was only ever to claim revenge on Charles Xavier by abducting David and turning his power against the world that Xavier selflessly tries to protect--which is a far cry from Apocalypse's actual dreams and goals for the world. There's simply no reason to suspect Amahl Farouk is anyone else unless that's what you really want to do.
I mean, you're free to speculate I guess. And I suppose it would be awesome to see Apocalypse portrayed more accurately than his appearance in the movie. Unfortunately, the Apocalypse we got in the X-men: Apocalypse movie is the only Apocalypse we'll be getting.
