    I'm feeling frustrated that Apple would limit us Intel users by not allowing access to the full suite of tools. I spent over 4K on my MacBook Pro with 2TB, thinking that I would be able to access all the fun updates as they came along. I'm disappointed to realize that this is not the case.

      They literally can't do it. They've added specialized AI processors in their own M chips which perform it and they coded it directly for that processor

    That sounds amazing for a couple mins of setup! I don't mind that every new feature isn't available on my 2018 MacBook Pro. As a software dev, I know backwards compatibility is hard. At least they're making the new version available to old Macs.

    I'm in the same boat as all the other Intel Mac users. My computer is also from 2019. I downloaded Logic Pro 11, but can't access Chomaglow. I had a similar issue with Master Assistant when I upgraded to 10.8.1 last November. In that case, I could still use the plug-in but was limited to only the Clean Character type. The rest of the character types were grayed out with a message saying only available for Apple silicon computers. Seems to me, Apple could have programmed this to also work with Intel Macs, but made a business decision not to. Obviously, they want us to upgrade and I'm not about to spend another $3K either.

      Couldn't put it better myself! It's annoying, especially when these laptops are build to last, I put it through some heavy workloads almost on the daily and it works like a charm, don't see myself replacing it for at least another 5+ years, but things like this annoy me when we know perfectly well these programs would work fine on it!

      So, is it okay to update my Logic to version 11 on a 2020 iMac? Only a few of the features won't work? Is it stable and running smoothly? I am currently on version 10.7.4

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @RishiBora I wouldn’t say it’s stable yet, mine will crash with certain plugins - Crowhills stuff and the odd instance of kontakt
      All but two new features work on the old Intel Macs. Personally I would wait till the next update 11.1 or so

      Good deal, one way to go, I got my Wife's MacBook Air M1 chip for £600 of eBay 2 years ago. With me I buy with apple because of the care/warranty as bad as it sounds - as it is my work computer . My current laptop within the first year needed its motherboard replacing, as I got it from Apple they replaced it for free very quickly - no problems 4 years latter apart form a new battery.

    I am an owner of a Mac Pro 2019 ($14k computer) and I thought I wouldn't be able to use Logic 11 at all. I'm at least glad that it is only a couple things they have left out for Intel users. I guess I can understand where the plugin developers didn't want to waste time coding new plugins for "old" computers.

    Yep. Loving the creativity so far...only playing around too. Have asked Apple to include strings / orchestras / vocals / choirs and we've got more options to take a look at creatively getting an idea off and up and running. Need a few more styles / genres. Try replacing instruments with the Synths...or your own presets...even those Arp'd...very nice!

  • @StevenMichaelAnderson
    @StevenMichaelAnderson Před 3 měsíci +1

    There are significant differences between Intel chips and Apple chips so it is incorrect to assume that what can be done on Apple silicon can also be done on Intel silicon. Apple silicon is fundamentally engineered differently, particularly the inclusion of a Neural Engine and it was the first mass-market and affordable chip to do so. This enables AI processing and advanced software features. It is incorrect to assume that Apple can build software with advanced AI features on older chips that simply don’t have the capability and it is fundamentally cynical to assume that Apple disabled features ‘on purpose’ to ‘force’ people to buy Apple Silicon-based products.

    Could you make a video about the new stem separation and how to change those stems to a different instrument? For example, the bass stem made with stem separation, how can you use that new track and change it to a different bass guitar. Thank you!!

    • @Joe-blogcomposer
      @Joe-blogcomposer  Před 3 měsíci +1

      So the Stem splitter doesn’t extract midi just audio so if you had a track with vocals, drums, bass guitar and keys you could separate the audio out and technically delete any part you want and add your own audio or midi instrument (but have to make the midi yourself)
      Sadly I won’t be able to do a video on the Stem Spitter. As mentioned in the video it’s limited to apple silicon but I have an Intel Mac.

      @BenjaminTemplar Před 3 měsíci

      @@Joe-blogcomposer Understood. I am not a musician, playing an instrument is really a skill I don’t have neither I have the time to hone.
      I only create music with AI, but I want to make those songs more personal and change the intruments a bit.
      I watch a video about capturing the poliohonic waves of a stem with Melodyne and then use that MIDI information with a MIDI instrument. But what is quite a lengthy process.
      I tried ChromaGlow on those stems and that gives me a decent variation to make a decent difference. But nothing like using a whole new instrument and I was wondering if it could be done on a simplier way. But thank you for your reply!! 😊

  • @alexdevcamp

    The Intel chips literally can't do it. Apple put an AI processor in the M chips and that's what it runs on. They could theoretically also program it for a different chip type, but that's basically having to re-code the entire feature twice, for a chip they don't offer anymore and is 4 years old, and it'd run incredibly slow because the chip isn't made to do AI calculations. Totally makes sense they didn't and won't support it on Intel

    After playing with the session musicians for a few days I have come to the conclusion that Apple has just turned Logic into what 'Band In A Box' was 15 years ago. These features are toys that will just make everyone's projects/music all sound the same. It's a bad, very light copy of Toontrack software.
    You summed it up when you stated "you don't even have to know what you are doing".
    It was obvious which direction Apple was going back when they introduced live loops (a bad copy of what Ableton had been doing for years).
    There are so many things that Apple could have done to improve Logic for serious creators, but they have chosen to just make it a toy for 10 year olds.
    The implementation of the Chord Track is also clunky and awkward to use, and a choice of only 6 chord progressions in the drop down menu in the session players? What a joke!
    Keep the intel mac and just get some Toontrack plug ins. There are also lots of free midi chord packs out there, we don't need the junk AI Apple is giving us.
    If they HAD tried to charge for this update that WOULD have been a disgrace and I doubt that any serious producers would have bothered buying it.
