My weekly videos include Standard, Gym Leader Challenge and retro Pokemon Trading Card Game gameplay, Pokémon news, set reviews, product openings and more! Thanks for watching! - Hry
These videos make opening packs infinitely more fun. Knowing which cards are playable makes opening even regular trainers and commons exciting. Thanks Mahone, you’re the man
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent video, i love these really long breakdowns of the entire set! Really hypes me up for the set!! I think I'm most excited for Dipplin atm, can't wait to see what they do for Hydrapple
I really want to splash in Sinistcha EX into Meowscarada EX. It just seems like they're the perfect pairing to go together. Meowscarada spreads damage around by tossing energy into the discard and sinistcha uses them to attack and put them back into your deck. You don't even need baby sinistcha since meowscarada can easily do all the discarding while spreading damage around.
Meowscarada did make it to day 2 in a couple recent tournaments so maybe this is the small addition it needs to win.
I just went a read that card. This might finally make meowscarada good!
Great editing and explaining these cards, your content is always top tier mate!
Thanks so much for covering all this can’t wait to try out blood moon Ursaluna and the festival lead abilities
Legacy energy seems to be mistranslated as its supposed to provide a rainbow, not a colorless for its energy cost.
PRERELEASES! can’t wait to see what the promos are. Last set had 4 GLC bangers
Any guesses? I reckon infernape, poliwrath, mightyena and then either thwackey or dipplinn
My call is
Tatsugiri
Ogerpon
Thwacky/dipplin
drakalok
@@patrickbenson3522
Maybe dipplin with candy catcher, infernape, ogerpon baby??? That's a stretch, so sinistcha, and chandelurr? Just a fun thing to think about
@@patrickbenson3522 I’m thinking drakloak, infernape, poliwrath, and maybe diplin.
I don't think they will do drakoloak as they usually don't do anything involved with ex cards @@cmt43368
Literally my favorite kind of vid on the Internet...thank you Mr. Gym
You are very welcome 🫡
scoop p cyclone is gonna pop off in magnezone control. You can scoop up your 330hp magnezone, cycle the cyclone with magneton's attack, and then scoop again.
I've been on the Ogrepon copium since the original Teal Mask DLC. I appreciate you not holding back while picking apart why the OgreBox concept most likely won't work. Looks like I'll be sticking to GLC when it comes to being able to play a good Grass deck.
Counterpoint: funny monkey applin deck deals 360 damage in one turn
I will definitely still try to build an ogerbox deck. I think the new survival cast tool, luminous energy, and penny are three cards that will really make this combo sing. Survival cast because it threatens the fire ogerpon play if they hit for too hard then Penny to heal and reuse survival cast after use or after they they can't reply with a ko after the fire ogerpon switch. Luminous is obvious. For a potential turn two knockout with grass maybe an energy switch is necessary so you can attack using two ogerpons, one energy switch and an attachment. I think playing one or two thorton could be good too because 4 switch outs might not be enough to cycle between your ogers throughout one game.
Basically the strategy would be to accelerate as much as possible to your grass while we stall using either water ogerpon sob or fighting oger's ability. Use survival cast to threaten the fire oger play and force them to hit for weak attacks. Only to penny the ogers up to hit with a fully powered oger on the bench or switch to fire to hit punishing KOs.
One thing you can also put in with Paladin is the Minior who switches in when you play him, since you can use him to beat Iron Hands and also he can switch you out then retreat for one energy if you have to.
Before seeing the video: I really wonder if there is a decent way to build a deck around Palafin with Dudunsparce (and personally I'd love to include Iron Valiant, but not sure how well this will work... Retreating the OBF Finizen to evolve it + doing some damage with Iron Valiant thanks to it's ability, sth like that)
Hey Mahone, just wanted to point out the translation of Legacy Energy from that proxy site is incorrect. It states it only provides colorless but it provides ANY type but only one at a time. Was pretty confused when I saw the text in video. Great review!
A cool set with a lot of playable cards. Definitely a set for the player’s! But there’s a few illustration rares I’ll be grabbing for the old collection.
I did pull two Palafin ex cards for my prerelease (one in the box and one after the matches were over). I also pulled that Iron Iron Leaves. Also the supporter card Lady can get you 4 energy cards...some food for thought. Cornerstone Mask Ogrepon is interesting because it can essentially block Charizard ex, but if you just leave it as an active for an Alakazam deck, it could be really interesting. Hearthflame is just begging for Magma Basin.
So excited for Drakloak and dragapult!
I really want to make a Dragapult ex deck, it looks really strong imo. Plus Dipplin might be a good addition to Regidrago V for the damaging guts effect
Love when trickygym review set
32:26 "This isn't how you get Macargo to work" chat: "This is how you get macargo to work"
cant wait to see Tord win some regional with it
theres going to be hydrapple ex that takes advantage of festival grounds in play
i love the new card drawers!
Just a random thought, but you could use dudunsparce with froslass as your draw engine; it would shuffle itself back into the deck after drawing cards, so it wouldn't have to worry about all the damage counters between turns. Could form the base of a decent spread deck? Maybe paired with something like hisuian braviary?
Dudunsparce would go great with froslass yep!
3:35 I currently have a deck built around Spidops ex and lunatone/solrock. Ariados wouldn't be a bad support for Spidops, for my deck I'd be trading out Minor (all from SV era)
Holy shit I need an entire bookshelf of those dragonshield storage things.
Does iron thorns ex disrupt palafin ex ability? Allowing you to play it from your hand?
I am very much looking forward to this set playing wise. I like the idea of Sinistcha Sinistcha where you swing 210 with baby Sinistcha and then later on swing again with Sinistcha ex to recycle your energy. And you get the extras in play using Ogerpon not a meta deck but it’d be fun.
Also putting a lot of thought into Iron Leaves Ogerpon because I put a thousand energy on my Ogerpons then play an Iron Leaves to get all the energy in one spot and either just swing the 180 (200 with a booster) OR Thorton some goofy stuff onto the Iron Leaves. Mostly high energy grass and colorless Pokemon so if any of y’all like those ideas take em and run with em let me know if y’all have any cool ideas or suggestions for em too
awesome bro
Weird to think that a Iron Hands ex with 4 Iron Crown ex on the bench and with a future booster capsule attached can OHKO any Ogerpon ex and cash-in 3 prizes
Froslass can be played with hisuian braviary
Or even mismagius and radiant tsareena
Heck ecen with monkidori and hisuiand braviary
festival lead goldeen evolving into swim freely seaking with thwackey and finneon sounds like a funny combo
Sounds inconsistent, gimmicky and unecessary
@@easyygo3008 perfect 🥰
I'm gonna be using boomerang energy in my staraptor deck lol
that froslass is so cool (pun intended)
It's so strange that you don't like the energy cycling decks, when I've been using the Celebrations Kyogre and Volcarona V deck you featured a couple years ago in the expanded format on Pokemon TCG live for a while and it plows through the ranks and battle pass. Even against the newer ex cards. The only time it struggles is against terastilized pokemon
... so Ting Lu with muscle band and strong energy does 70 AND 30 to everything? such a common weakness you could also just play wide lens and hit bench for weakness too. 60 to everything lol.
Palafin could also include gengar for constant switch every turn :)
It could!
Huge question here. Can Palafin evolve turn 1 going first or second with its ability? If so that’s bonkers! Lead palafin, switch into dunsparce, evolve, retreat into palafin ex and if you just have 1 energy your attacking for 250 on the first turn going second…. It’s not even a hard combo to pull off
Palafin ex can come into play in a single turn, yes. But you’re forgetting finizen! First finizen has to evolve into palafin, then palafin can transform into palafin ex. So the fastest it can happen is T-2
Sinistcha ex would be a good secondary attacker in meowscarda ex.
I'm going to pair it with Gholdengo.
Iron thorns ex will make palafin ex evolve normally correct?
Justice for Torkoal
I forgot about Greninja ex in this set because everyone's been doomsday posting about Dragapult and Charizard so much. I'm gonna build the frog deck I think
Could you lock yourself out of abiliities to get palafin ex out easier. That could save some deck space.
They don’t make ability lock that locks abilities in the hand anymore. In expanded you have garbotoxin and Wobb which do, but nothing in standard.
Does every cards are out or new will be released?
Really wish PTCG Live had a Gym Leader Challenge game mode
Festival Grounds will definitely pose a problem for Klawf decks.
Ting lu frosslass baby!
the bad translation on okidogi made me laugh, saying once per turn implied it would stack each turn haha
Wait, since rainbow energies only provide all energy but only 1 energy at a time, wouldnt you declare an attack, its hp would drop to 130 during the attack?
The energy provides all energy at once but only one (x) energy at a time. The one energy at a time text confuses everyone but it just means that even tho rainbow energies provide all 10 different types of energy at once, they only provide (x) one energy.
@@TrickyGym oh! Thank you very much! Really does clear that up. I look forward to feasting with the dragon types, one of my favourites, riiiiight after colourless and deck burn fire.
Won't charizard/pidgeot decks just start playing a single copy of the fire type zard?
In defence of hearthflame mask ogerpon: survival cast.
I'm really hoping that Iron thorns can be that guy to help Miraidon out of the slump it finds itself in I feel that it has some potential having path back with Miraidon on a pokemon is never a bad thing the Don could maybe come back or maybe I'm coping
Unfortunately I think the best builds will just have 4 thorns so the opponent can’t break the lock
I'm going to build the most troll chandelure deck where I force opponents to draw cards and then use hand clippers to make them toss them away. Oh it's gonna be my favorite kind of garbage
I reckon double greninja will be fun.
Palafin ex lost box deck 😎🥴 wait, hold up! I’m at the gym and my brain maybe fried, but dunsparce Palafin 😎😎 I’m cooking or my brain is cooked lol
Edit: didn’t realize you already mentioned the sparce mid lift 😂
Morpeko might be pretty good in a turbo Palkia build.
Why are they adding rule box pokemon to this glc set?
Palafin ex will break expanded (well ok expanded is already kind of broken) because if you play Hex Maniac first, you can just evolve Finizen straight into Palafin ex. I don’t think anything in standard can replace Hex Maniac for this combo but maybe I’m wrong.
Edit: Hex is banned in expanded. I forgot this because expanded sucks, but you can still use Garbodor instead.
Isn’t hex banned in expanded?
Hex Maniac is Banned in the Expanded format as of August 17th, 2018. It was banned as it could be used turn one at the time, going first. This meant that theoretically, at the time, you could play this card going first and stop your opponent from using abilities, leading to its ban.
Currently in expanded, the only way to achieve what you describe is by using Wobbuffet from Phantom Forces. While it's in the active spot, all pokemon have no abilities in the hand, discard pile, or in play, except psychic pokemon. This would shut off Palafin's ability.
It is interesting to note, however, that Hex is not unbanned, even after the supporter errata at the beginning of SwSh.
Doesn’t garbotoxin do this as well? And I don’t think so it doesn’t seem that great in expanded, you could just iron hands it for 3 prizes :p
@samuellopez8502 you are correct, Garbodor does this as well.
I have a deck idea, it’s called *_MUNKIDOLL*_. So it works by Obsidian Flames Claydoll using Kaboom Doll, which knocks itself out. But, now the opponents active Pokémon’s HP is now 10. And with Calamitous Snowy Mountain, which does damage to my Twilight Masquerade single prize Munkidori when I attach a dark energy to it, (the dark energy is importent to the strategy) who’s ability Adrena-brain with a dark energy attached, I can now move up to 3 damage counters, (say from Calamitous Snowy Mountain) so I move them to the Pokémon I used Kaboom Doll on, knock it out. I hope you like *_MUNKIDOLL*_.
I wonder if Reuiniclus/Palafin ex can be a deck.... hmmmmm
39:06 Poliwrath could be used along with Snorlax Doll
If we had hex maniac, it would negate the heros spirit and give us an instant beat stick
"TING-LU will absolutely decimate colourless"
*Shining arceus also spreading 30 damage and giving the bench barrier effect*: "Are you sure about that?*
It’s water energy for the greninja ex
What if I only play standard tho. Hassel isn’t bad
130 dmg x3 tho with the super effective glasses tho will OHKO charizard lol ya prolly not a thing but could be funny
Imagine they reprinted sky field, Farigiraf might be decent
i just subscribed literally 2 seconds ago, could you do a video on goodra vstar
Palafin is going to be fun even if its not meta
Ciphermaniac + gutsy pickaxe + bibarel can accelerate okidogi
So kegacy isnt rainbiw?
I finally figured out who tricky Jim sounds like. He’s a dead even mix between Carl Sagan and Tucker Carlson. Gonna start nicknaming him Jimmy Carl or something.
Ok let's be real. One of those Ogrepons was made specifically for Charizard
When does this set release on PTCGL?
Tomorrow!
Man, grass glc is gonna be even more busted
Of all things about this deck, I just wish the Slurpuff was good. Ever since X/Y, it’s been my favorite ’mon.
Froslass Dodrio lol
11:13 how are you attacking twice into a Charizard ex with the dipplin? “If the first attack Knocks Out your opponent’s active pokemon you may attack again” to my understanding the stadium has to be in play to allow you to even be able to attack twice not just allowing you to attack twice?? Also, what’s the dumb ruling people were mentioning about TM’s and this ability?
You can attack twice even if the first attack doesn't take a KO.
@@Siennarchistokay so instead of it being like you only got to attack once bc you took a KO. Gotcha got mixed up obviously lol
You cant pair the ability with tm's because the attack says "an attack this pokemon has" and the tm is a separate attack
Do you have a master set of Pokémon go?
Nope
What is gym leader challenge?

Does Poliwrath not have a mouth? I just realized it and now I'm bothered..
im always really sad that theres so much disparity between good cards and pack filler in the pokemon TCG
it feels like ever since gen 5 or 6 maybe you get 90% random cards that say "2 energy this does not enough damage and nothing else" or maybe a neat ability at most, when gen 3 and gen 4 had cards with multiple attacks and a lot of different abilities 😢
it becomes especially egregious with rule box pokemon being so busted sometimes, it powercreeps the pack filler even more making them feel double pointless. having to make upwards of 300 damage in a turn when 90% of the pokemon they print have under 150 hp is just bad game design at this point, it felt more balanced when mons still had the 80-130 hp and did 80, 90, 100 damage
that being said, major props on your vids! i love watching them
I'm so sick of that goddamn Charizard ex. Cornerstone Mask Ogerpon ex is definitely going into my deck.
They still didnt give us a good Conkeldurr
I kinda hate you calling Farigiraf ex not good because I’ve been playing at locals tournaments and he’s helped with Chien Pao, Future and gardivoir. 😂😂
diplin is decent but why cudn't they make more festival leaders with more attacks? like one more with a halfway decent move and decent typing (maybe fighting or metal?) would have made it somewhat viable but noooooooooooooo they have to kill alllllllll the fun
ps i wish the ogerpons were compatible, they'd make a cool tool box. water is the only playable one, maybe fighting as a tech in control or arceus bo it seems ironic how dumb broken they are in the vgx and how low-end-of-mid they are in the tcg. again tho with the ogre's mask card, i feel like they started with a cool idea and then its just not strong enough to even be a rouge deck
Milotic will calm down cards like Rapid Strike Inteleon vmax
Can you have 2 thwackeys getting 2 cards?
yes. unless it says one per turn like on Pidgeot ex
anyone ever tell you, you look like the youtuber David de franco?
Never heard that
Can't wait to destroy charizards with a candy apple. 🍎 That will be super fun!
There’s no way that Infernape is bad or won’t see play.
I hate how every grass Pokémon now is balanced around 170 damage it’s so annoying
mahone i love the content but if i hear one more "gym leader challenge" i will scream
GYM … LEADER … CHALLENGE
The Gardenia slander is just appalling and completely uncalled for. She's doing her best, ok?
Why does it feel like everything is being made to attempt to counter zard 😂 the regret is large
It always is
Can’t wait to use unfair stamp into eri and if that fails use the new luxray👍🏽😄
You are evil! 😳
Can't wait to make a spider deck to play against arachnophobic people
That’s so mean!
@@TrickyGym Sometimes psychological warfare is needed to win. >:)
I appreciate the common cards and everything, but it feels like this set is going to be basically overpowered cards and kind of disappointing on visual ends on the cards, mainly in the art rares of ex cards. I still may appreciate the set, but I dunno right now.
Bet the Palafin ex deck is the first deck Andrew makes from the next set
I’m playing greninja ex even if it’s bad 😂
You're so wrong about Hassel
Don’t think so
I'm definitely a Greninja ex and dragapult ex stan.
Hassle is the worst supporter you ever read? Did you forget about Shauntal?? 😂😂
