Merci, humain(e)s !
For me this is one of the ten most beautiful musical incursions in the history of modern jazz and this record, which I have on vinyl is a masterpiece of Jazz... Lyle is a genius and it's no wonder he paired it with another "point out of curve"...the genius Pat Metheny.
@@fredfungalspore She does in fact, but she's not that familiar with jazz per se, she plays piano quite well but mostly classical and Broadway show tunes...bless from Paute Ecuador 🏵️
Ascent - to the higher realms, just like the maestro himself. RIP dear Lyle, your transcendent music has been the soundtrack to my life. Bought this album new in 86 - still have it. Crying nonstop since I found out, but equal tears of sadness as joy that this music will always be with us, to awaken us, to inspire us to be our best, most creative & most beautiful selves. Peace to all.
RIP Master Mays... Simply Amazing Beauty of Soul. Yesterday, my Son heard for first time Lyle's Music and His Eyes were looking at a point Where he Look when He's Surprised for something and said: "Now I really Want to Hear More of Him !" And He Stopped To Worry About my Grief and True Sadness. 66 YEARS OLD !!! Maybe There's People that Must Never Die...
These guys are in a spiritual level with there music! Amazing stuff!! Play this during Sunrise or Sunset and man, it is like you can just hear God saying , look at my awesome creation!!
RIP Lyle Mays. I know he retired from music several years ago, but it feels like such a huge loss. He was only 66 and had given us so much beauty. Gone but not forgotten.
My favorite song when I first heard 29 yrs. ago...Now hearing it again and knowing who the artist is....you have eluded me Lyle Mays for many years! You were right there under my nose for decades!
Love Pat Metheny, I really do, and the PMG made some fantastic music, but Bill Frisell is an unassuming soundscape magician on Lyle's level. This album was a miraculous pairing of like-minded talents.
I didn’t understand what this music was meant to signify until one day it hit me right between the eyes. Incredible piece performed by consummate musicians. I can almost imagine a soul traveling through space to reach it’s resting place. The guitar solo is like nothing else I have heard before or since, propelling the band to an incredible crescendo and then to the inevitable calm. Sumptuous, wonderful music that always moves me. RIP Lyle, a genius behind our capacity to understand.
This is epic stuff. And such a different style than the Mays-Metheny work of this period. More dynamic range, from "soft to hard" and back again. Plus, here's the 111th comment!
Thank you, thank you, Lyle. SO powerful. I hope more people can get the self-titled "Lyle Mays" CD. It's a masterpiece I prefer even over some of my PMG CDs. Desert Island disc. Lyle's composing genius and performing touch and Bill Frisell - wow. I'm going to go put my CD on my studio monitors!
I love everything Lyle has done in his career. This song is genius and the band is stellar, but what really makes it fly is Frisell's playing. The man has such great ideas and taste.
You can hear an exchange in Ascent: A storm clearing making it safe for flying; then renewal. #1 on my listening playlist in recent months. Ready to start anew.
Genius. Lyle will live for ever in our hearts. I want to let someone here, who might be interested, know that the bass line has been used for a beautiful (imho) song in 1999 by Basement Jaxx (I personally consider them the heirs of Prince), actually my preferred one of theirs: “Always Be There” (www.whosampled.com/Basement-Jaxx/Always-Be-There/)
Curious is that Lyle on the guitar on this, or someone else? I know from listening to Pat Metheny's interviews that Lyle was also a very good guitarist - but I've never seen him play.
When this came out in '86, it was cutting edge stuff. It still is. RIP Lyle.
what a sound, what a soul, what a heart, arms, hands and fingers...love you always ,Lyle.

My mom heard Lyle for the first time last night at age 76, she looked over and said "That is pure Genius"...
Your mum has good taste xx

WoW really..when I was 26 in '87 my reaction was the same..a masterpiece overwins a lifetime!this artist just passed away!

Simply fantastic. Even after all these years, I can never get bored listening to this masterpiece.
That's one of the things I've always found fascinating about May's music. Very rarely is it ever boring, even after gobs of listens.
This is simply incredible, words cant really justify this.

Oh my god 1986!!!!! I had this album, I played it over and over again., man I'm going back to the future.
...same...time is passing, ya?
possibly the greatest guitar solo I have ever heard ... raw, expressive and lyrical
Lyle Mays is a brilliant musician... Love the last 4 minutes...
Probably.... the greatest instrumental piece ever created. In any era.
Lovely. Discovered this CD 30 yrs ago and I cant get enough of it. Billy Drewes and Bill Frisell are amazing on this track.

Incredible! Lyle Mays is something else!

Lyle playing in the heaven...
angels suspend to listen to him.
His notes are more than seven...
He will be, even if, he has been.

LYLE MAYS
February 10, 2020
I usually don't get mad about Frisell, but his scream is sadly, moving epic. Mays melody and arrangement make of this a real immortal classic.
No words can do justice to this piece. Just letting it bask in its brilliance.
Lyle May's is not of this earth🎵🎵🎵🎵🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
nothing stops this marching forward. It is so good
My favorite tune on the record.......incredibly powerful.
So sad to hear of his passing... he was amazing.
I can't stop listening to this one!! Amazing!!
real addiction
I can't stop listening to this one since 1986 !

Bill's best guitar solo ever he says so much with not so many notes....
This is really superior stuff now.... ingenuity with pure talent.....and a crystal sense of compositional melody
Thank you very, very much to share this beatuful piece of music
I COULD LISTEN ALL FERGUN DAY...sooo sweet...
