Looking good Dave! She kinda reminds me a bit of Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn!
EDIT : Nvm you just mentioned it right after I posted the comment haha
Dave, first off, thanks for all you do for the community! I have a few questions about freelancing (as I'm about to try to start out in that arena). Do you have any insight into the business side of things? For example, what to look out for when writing a contract, what to look for in a good client, how you go about doing your taxes and insurance and other responsible things? Haha again, thank you for these real-time painting videos with your thoughts and comments along the way. Hope to catch you on Twitch sometime soon!

Dave: Strap over the breast is too uncomfortable
Also Dave: *Wedges strap between them
haha. true :x
Which is much less uncomfortable because there's naturally space between them, unless the bra/outfit pushes them tightly together :P
its less uncomfortable to have a strap between.
I use to have a messenger bag to carry my crap around when I was a kid, and it is a lot more comfortable to have the strap between the breast, rather than over it, unless you had a very sturdy kind of bra, then it kind of rubbed the bra into your sternum. If that makes sense lol
so coooooool!! I'd love a video in the future on how you did the greyscale sketch before the color! it looks so good and theres a lot of detail in that first layer! I really like sketches and rough work and your forms are so good! Thanks for sharing this with us, Dave! It's actually really helpful and you do such a good job of talking through your process in an easy to comprehend way! :D
LMAO I spit my god damn coffee. "What do YOU think it is?"
lolol.
Really awesome seeing you draw this, I'm not going into the game industry (I'm doing character design for film and 2d animation), but I still love seeing your tutorials and drawings. I totally appreciate tutorials, especially on color, I still struggle a ton with color. I started doing a environment photo study a day and I'm already seeing an improvement, but any tutorials are great too!
That's awesome thanks so much!
I'm so damn happy that I found your channel
So happy you found it also! :) welcome!
Love her design! So pretty 😍
Master !!! YOU ARE THE 1 , 🙏🏻
Your work is really inspiring. Definitely helping me get through these times :)
love it Dave!!!
Lovely as always!
Yes Tutorials wld be Great.! Nice Character..!!
Had this in my watch later for a while, and finally buckled down and sketched while you worked. Ngl, really liked it.
So glad I found you on twitch! Im the 14 year old from the chat remember? Anyways I love this character design and your drawing process
I do remember! welcome to the channel!
It looks godly. I have to say, if I didnt find ur channel a year ago, for sure I would've dropped out of my Art Univ and quit art all together. You have inspired me and actually taught me that I can do something better. I was in a dark place man, i still am but Drawing calms me and sends me in a good place and your videos make those good places even better cuz i can see that im learning, even if it is bit by bit. Thank you so much, you really helped me alot.
For real? That's amazing and about the most humbling thing anyone could say to me. Honestly I am doing this to help in any ways I can.. i know my contributions are small.. but every little piece can help other artists. Thanks for sticking with me and I am looking forward to hearing about your art future as well!
Your experience with your high school teacher has been about the same as mine, but even up through college. I'd get demotivated by the various influences in my life, but I always kept coming back to it eventually.
Yeah must be alot of insecure artists out there to treat others like that.. its pretty crazy.
@Dave Greco - That's totally awesome that you've made the move to become freelance! I hope to do the same one day. But super good luck to you! And totally looking forward to more tutorials and commentary on your videos. These are so insightful and very inspiring :) Love your work!
of course men We really want this tupe of videos as advice of taking art school and another sort of advise like this as a profesional . Thank you so much for keeping the content despite your work men thank you so much
Great video as always.
Would really like to see how you start poses and more "static" pieces like this one. I really like how it turned out
I have a more in depth armor design tutorial in the works right now.
@@DaveGreco Nice, can't wait to watch it :)
I saw the video of the stream, where start the piece, on twitch. I like your messier approach in the beginning, gonna give it a try in my next piece.
I would offer a lot of things to get back to art school... I feel like I've lost a lot of time, and I'm trying my very best to change that, learning et practicing by my own. But it's hard and sometimes I feel I'm not practicing the right way and the good things to improve my art. At least your videos are as inspiring as helpful ♥ Thank you Dave !
It's super hard I know.. and easy to beat yourself up over certain things. This line of work always has a way of jamming self doubt at you.. just keep at , and keep focus on your goals!
This is looking great, man. The bust is fantastic, loving the skin tones and the execution of the entire bust. Killin' it!
Thanks man always good to hear from you!
Great piece dave!
the thing that i find most difficult is making a drawing (line shenanigans) into a painting (brush shenanigans). I dont know if you have a tutorial on it, but i love the way you do it!
Some really good topics you covered in this video Dave :-). Thanks, really appreciates your transparency and honest sharing!! I can relate to a lot of what you mentioned.. keep them coming, mate :-)
Im a modeller/sculptor in after a degree in 3d character animation. Feel like ive learnt more outside of university now im not held down by the strict-ish curriculum.
Love listening along to this during sculpt sessions and working on portfolio
Deffo scary thinking about the future career!
It's always scary! I remember senior year the amount of panic was so strong in the entire class.
Was watching your stream on this piece, you were extremely helpful with any questions that I had. Cheers!
Awesome thanks for hanging out!
way too amazing dude
Yay thanks Crystaahhl! :)
would love to see a video about portfolio development for someone looking to enter the industry for concept art :)
I just love everything Asterin related
Creating her was in my opinion the best thing for this channel!
It gave you something unique to market and it really sets this channel apart from other art youtubers.
Keep up the good work! Hoping for some more Astering in the future!
Or maybe it is the time for a Male OC as well?? Maybe someone water related to match Asterin's fire?
Thanks so much! I love how that she kind of grew into her own thing.. without any real purpose at all. But now shes a character people constantly want me to build upon.. but yes I think she possibly needs some villians.. nemesis.. friends? I think its time to grow a full IP for her :)
dude, you're singing my song, lol..."small town...highschool teacher that despised me.." That about sums up the downfall of me ever pursuing an art career, despite my dream and passion for it in my younger years.
Love the drawing! loved the topics you were talking about, one thing really that really bothers my is that her cape or cloak just stops after her shoulder.
yeah i may have it be some like shoulder wrap.. it needs more exploring for sure.
Hey Dave! amazing work as always, I'm wondering if you keep a sketchbook for your sketches.
I just started a brand new sketchbook and looking to do a full year sketchbook video at the end of the year.
the way he says "drawing with daaaveee~" killed me ahh dave youre just too cute
Cool video, Dave! I like Asterin a lot. I'll make her in 3D :D
That would be amazing!
👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀
I normally don't comment, but I wanted to say thank you. As with the help of your tutorials. I managed to draw my favorite piece in two years a few days ago. As well as get to the closest I've ever been to my preferred art style. (Icon is the piece) Even finagled your brush pack to work with Krita. Loving your main brush a lot. Unfortunately haven't been able to replicate that success yet. But I do have another idea to try.
Also, any chance of a fur or clothes/armor texture tutorial?
Thanks so much and I appreciate you taking the time to comment! It's just all about staying focused and really trying to learn from each piece.. amazing work!
That Art School video would be nice
Def in the works!
hi, dave. I always liked the way you tighten up your piece so just wanna ask what are the aspects you will take into consideration?
What school would you recommend going to for game art and design?
When ya wanna be an apprentice to Dave lol Ill take the youtube vids though as a poor kid xD
It seems that every day i am seeing witchers since upcoming netflix show.
Yeah its pretty crazy :x
I do like to draw a lot! But I chose to become a 3d artist, I'm still a student. So what can I do for the 2D artist to be satisfied with my translation of their work? I try to be super picky about details. Do you have some advice, maybe some communication tips? PS LOVE YOUR ART !!!
I want to start studying "game-arts" and everyone is telling me i need to learn to work with specific programs before and learn to work in 3D beforehand. Is that really true? Love your art and content btw ^^
Gorgeous piece. She looks like Female Barb from diablo on diet.
Always loved that barb design!
What do you think about using symmetry to figure out the design?
Could certainly do that!
Try and flip the canvas
Its funny actually I always here people saying you have so many option now a days so many ways to go. Here I am sitting at home no idea what to consumed with anxiety and too depressed to leave the house knowing I want to do art but paralyzed with fear haha. I should have killed myself in high school.
As cool as it is, Females can't be Witchers. It even says it in the books.
im gonna comment " lovely as always" and i didnt even watch the video . cause i want some likes . thx
No. Woman witch(es?) is a bad idea. Why? Let me remind you how to create a witcher.
"Taken in as children, witchers-to-be are subjected to intense alchemical processes, consumption of mutagenic compounds, and relentless physical and magical training to make them dangerous and highly versatile against their vast array of opponents, many of which possess superhuman speed, strength and/or other deadly powers. These procedures ultimately mean that each fully-trained witcher is a mutant built specifically to hunt and kill inhuman prey." Key word mutagen. Mutation. Merigold was very angry when they tried to feed Ciri "special" mushrooms. Cool concept, but no.
